The morning started slowly, as if everyone were in shock. First of course was the realization that one of their own was dead. This paled in comparison however, to the knowledge that if they were caught, Quincy would be the lucky one. Without a reliable way to make the rest of the trip carrying the gold, they did their best to hide the trucks, and started towards the nearest town shown on their map.
There was of course discussion along the way. Accusations were thrown out and shot down by those who were walking together. Periodically throughout the day some, like Mattimeo, would scout out ahead of the group. Even the newest member of the crew, Shadeun, wasn’t kept under constant watch, as he was needed to stay behind for a while and ensure they weren’t being followed. By the end of the day however, everyone took their turn in laying blame.
By mid afternoon some real anger was starting to show through in the arguments. Both Rowain the safe cracker, and Zakalwe the computer guy attracted a fairly dedicated group of accusers, but at one point the distrust was almost completely evenly split between four members of the group. As dusk approached, it was AdrienIer, the group’s muscle, that stood out the most having almost half of the crew thinking his continued health might not be assured.
AdrienIer tried repeatedly to convince his compatriots he wasn’t the bag guy here (relatively speaking of course), but even with some assistance by others who believed him, it was apparent that his behavior, and perhaps his bulk, made believing he was the guilty one too easy. Finally he broke down and told everyone he thought his childhood friend Bob, one of the surviving drivers, was actually guilty, despite the fact that he had defended him earlier in the afternoon. Evidently believing him, Zakalwe stopped accusing AdrienIer, and moved back to Bob, whom he had been campaigning against for hours.
While there wasn’t a complete consensus, there was enough for this group. While AdrienIer held his erstwhile friend, the crew methodically beat him, trying to get him to admit he had done it, and who had worked with him. His accusers took it too far however, and Bob died with protestations of innocence on his lips. Slowly it sank in, the crew had just killed an Honorable Thief.
Night one begins.
