Funny, first time that I notice the virtualstore folder used by dosbox. Had to run a search on C: :0

Here's the file in case it matters, but Nelphine's explanation on doombats makes sense. That really brings home the inadequacy of strategic combat though. Having a bunch of spearmen and bowmen kill a doombats node without losses is saddening. How's anyone not going to do the strategic combat trick after seeing this? A human will always have some losses when attacking doombats, barring hero shenanigans...

Are strategic values calculated dynamically or are they in a table?

Strange thing: a berserker got half petrified, then afterwards healing didn't work on them anymore during battle. Expected? It could be, the petrified figures wouldn't be healable, but I don't remember this happening before.

It has always been like that, the petrified damage can't be healed.

About the Doom Bats :
-It's a tower, not a node. The bats don't have a node bonus.
-There are only 3 of them inside which is not much, secondary monsters are 5 fire elementals
-SSs'ra's stack has mithril and adamant units, some have buffs too.
-The stack has 3 ranged units, Doom bats can't use ranged attacks, so the stack gets to deal free damage before melee.
-When I attacked the stack afterward, it did have a few points of damage on some units, although much less than expected. However considering this was effectively a 8 vs 3 battle, it's not that surprising the bats were overwhelmed and couldn't deal much damage.

I played chaos in my first game and now have Lo Pan red/blue as main enemy in the second. Imo Armageddon should have diplomatic repercussions. Serious repercussions! When I cast it in the first game the AI only complained about Chaos Surge and when Lo Pan cast it the two other AIs remained allied to him. Pretty funny that everyone started to declare war on me after I banished him.

A round of ranged before the doom bats attack is exactly the unfairness I was looking for smile
Maybe speed and flying/pathfinding could be considered in strategic combat? In tactical the bats would kill all the ranged troops easily, barring maybe the airship, but even that'd get some attacks in. (They might also then avoid the others if they're not subsequently webbed)

Even is there was some sort of a "speed" stat for armies, this army would be slow. It had 5 Fire Elementals in it but only 3 Doom Bats. Their combined speed would be only 3.5 move/turn.

Ah so strategic combat is full army Vs full army? Dang.

Well.. I don't know if there's a solution, but this situation is just begging the player to activate strategic combat when it matters. Avoiding losing 3-4 troops, like in this very same example if the stack were human, is a huge advantage in a lot of cases.

Bug report: defending hero killing attacking hero equipped with an item. The item is then in the tower rather than in the same location on the distribution screen. (quite minor)

Confirmed, location of item is only set when the attacker wins the battle.
