[Spoilers] Defining the phrase "€˜Hung Like a Horse"€™: Pb & the Kuriotates

Darkmantle Wrote:If we can assume that your previous screenshot contains the most up to date image of the defence forces then you were lying to Selrahc about how you were going to hit the stack and Bob has made a very interesting move.
Lying is a strong word. tongue
I overemphasised certain combats maybe, but some units will be attacking at a 65% disadvantage without doubt.

Diplo:

And I guess I have to take it all back!
Selrahc Wrote:No possible way of getting maelstrom off. Sorry. Please don't get my units killed needlessly...

Good luck.
Pb Wrote:Good man.

I have zero intention of treating your units like cannon fodder.
I said it before, we either stand together, or fall separately.

Will let you know the outcome once I've finished praying to the (recently defied) Gods of the RNG.
Now that I’ve thrown my little tantrum and got my own way (where’s that picture of the pram? Too far back to find quickly), time to go for it I think.

Reading that last post back, maybe something I didn't make clear is why I considered this so important.
If Selrahc had said no, I'd be back to a situation where I have an unknown factor in a neighbour. A neighbour who obviously didn't always adhere to agreements and was changing his mind.
I'd then have had the option this turn of:
  1. Attacking the Calabim stack regardless, and risking a possible backstab.
  2. Sticking all my units in Zaonce and watching them burn.
  3. Abandoning Zaonce.
A and B aren't options, which would've meant abandoning Zaonce.
At that point, the situation would have been too reminiscent of the Hippus. I'd probably have looked up a possible peace with the Calabim, and started making plans for a war straight away. Better the devil you know.

In short, I don't mind that Selrahc hasn't got involved a great deal yet, I don't mind lending him the gold.
I just needed to be certain he was definitely onboard (or as certain as I can be without asking him to take a lie detector test).

Fortunately, the Illians do stick to their agreements, and now all that’s left I guess, is…

Charge? [Image: icon_look.gif]

When you recruit mercenaries, they're created with 0/1 movement and have the "has already casted[sic]" tag, ie unable to move and unable to cast any spells.

The unable to cast part is to prevent a player from chain recruiting mercenaries, ie you have one worker in a threatened city, you summon a merc who then summons a merc etc etc. The 0 movement I believe is to stop you from recruiting an instant army and attacking the same turn. Hasting a mercenary changes their movement to 1/2 as in the pic above, allowing them to move out of the city and attack.
Maybe it's not an exploit, just one of those bendy rules of FFH2, but either way I'm not too keen on it.

To take an extreme example, two weaker players could band together and agree that when one of them was threatened, they'd gift that player with the city containing GotN and all their gold. Not only would that bypass the "no gifting units" mechanic of FFH2, it would also allow the threatened player to summon an instant army and surprise attack.
*shrugs*

Isn't a surprise army exactly what mercenaries are for? It's limited to the number of other units you can get to the city at least.

Most of that stuff in your extreme example you can do without haste anyway. Haste just turns the surprise defence into a surprise attack, which is no different to the original example really. On the other hand gifting cities with wonders back and forth is often considered exploitive, but that's a different issue.

So I'd say bendy yes, intended maybe not entirely, but exploit no. Everyone will have a different view on the line between bendy and exploitive, but, as I've already said in the lurker thread, it's not out of line with many other bendy things you can do with haste that aren't generally considered exploits.

Still, better to be wrong by not doing something you probably didn't need to do anyway than be wrong by finishing up accused of abusing an exploit. Just giving my 2c on the subject.

I just tried this in worldbuilder and you are correct. I swear at one point I chain summoned a Mercenary Horde of Death, but either my memory failed yet again, or they patched it out smoke.

Pretty sure he's in the Chicago area right now.
