@Cornflakes: That are between you and Donovan is barren indeed. I quite like cramming in cities everywhere as they`ll pay back eventually so I definitely would have taken control of the border lands just to claim more territory in your shoes. Fwiw, Donovan has built his cities at minimum distance basically everywhere.
[SPOILERS] JR4 and RefSteel have a plan

No one else has logged into the game for the last 24 hours. Donovan is excused as he`s got the second half of the timer after Wetbandit and Superdeath did ask for a pause. Are we about to witness a massive naval assault on Mr. Cairo by Superdeath? Sadly, I haven`t payed too much attention to Superdeath`s ports lately as the turns are getting quite complicated to play and checking everything every turn is kind of time-consuming.
TURN 339
Superdeath revolted to Vassalage last turn! He ate a turn of anarchy. Make no mistake - Superdeath is going to war shortly. I`m somewhat reluctant to move our troops into Donovan`s territory until I know for certain if Mr. Cairo is the target. We will probably be able to cause Superdeath huge losses if all those Tanks come our way but it won`t be pretty. At least we have a handful of highly promoted Anti Tanks entrenched in Pilch. Our main army stayed in Tlatelolco, maybe that`s a mistake but our units can move 10 tiles on our rail network. We`re finally building some ships on the northern sea, just in case an opportunity arises. We do have a massive stockpile of gold. At some point we should turn research back on but when? Our next big military target is probably Bombers which means Flight and Radio which are both prohibitively expensive so I`m actually considering taking a gamble here and putting basically all of our cities on Wealth/Research. But let`s see what Superdeath is up to first.
Thanks yet again for the excellent war reporting - on all the battle fronts! This is a difficult time for me to contribute much (as you can probably tell from my absence lately) especially with everything often changing so rapidly from one turn to the next, but it's great to be able to follow events when I'm able to check the forum!

To ensure DZ goes down before the end, while we survive all the way? To make and keep our position as strong as we possibly can, in pursuit of whatever chance we might still have of winning (or just trying to finish strong) in the game? To provide the most comprehensive reporting of the longest-running game in Realms Beyond history? (I think that one can already be declared a victory!) Any or all of these are worthy goals. The question with tech (and/or what else to do with our gold) is which tech will best serve that goal. (I don't have a very good sense for the tech situation right now, but I'll note that if other players don't have a giant bankroll like us but also aren't teching, they may be spending a lot of money on UniSuf cash rushes. Although Mr. Cairo might even be running the culture slider and using hiss bankroll to fund it, imaginably! I might be able to guess better from more looks at the tech, resource trade, and victory screens, but that's assuming I have time to do and post the analysis, so for now I'm sticking to rampant speculation!) In any case, I'll look forward to the upcoming reports; thanks again for posting them!
How long of a road is it to bombers with flight and radio to research? If Mr. Cairo turned on the culture slider because of all the recent world events we might want to start pressuring him again but with DZ being on bad blood with a lot of people it's likely going to be hard to ever be able to topple Mr. Cairo.
I do hope though that Superdeath understands that at this point if he ever tries to kill our stack and succeeds that Mr. Cairo will probably just win the game at this point because there won't be enough time to build up a large enough stack to dogpile Mr. Cairo and Superdeath is certainly not strong enough to single handily kill Mr. Cairo. Do we know how much gold Mr. Cairo is making per turn? I have a feeling he might not be able to turn on the cultural slider very high because of his massive army but maybe ORG is helping out a lot in that respect.

If we turn on science next turn, we still won`t have quite enough gold to get to Flight. With Wealth/Research we will be able to shorten down the 12 (iirc) turns to that tech considerably. And then we need to research Radio too. Ugh, that`s going to take 15-20 turns minimum, I think. But at some point there won`t be much point in having a mountain of gold for the sake of it.
As for Mr. Cairo, I`m not sure how much money he`s making. He`s definitely saving a lot from his ORG trait. It can`t be that long until he turns on the culture slider (if he hasn`t done it already). It`s up to Superdeath to stop the culture attempt. But actually, I think that Superdeath still has an outside chance of getting back into the game as the Sistine city in particular situated NE in Mr. Cairo`s Empire is vulnerable to boating. Superdeath has a massive fleet with can blockade Mr. Cairo`s ports, no question. Superdeath does need to act quickly and he`s not winning by attacking us. We obviously can`t cash rush anything without Universal Suffrage and I`m kind of kicking myself for not going for State Property earlier. That would have paid back in basically no time as it would have gained a ton of food and production plus that it would have reduced our maintenance costs considerably. My goal in this game is basically improving our civ as much as possible. Killing off Donovan would be pretty good too. We`d need a miracle to win now but hey, miracles do come true sometimes. TURN 340
Wetbandit and Donovan signed peace. As a result, part of Wetbandit`s army is stuck in enemy culture (technically the city belongs to Wetbandit but it`s absolutely swamped in Donovan`s culture). I thought about offering Donovan peace but we`re remaining at war for now. If we can get a dozen Transports we have access to Donovan`s capital and two of his other cities. Maybe it was a mistake not to go for naval control earlier but better late than never, right? Donovan is building Artillery everywhere. He probably wants to hit Tlatelolco and we do need to be careful not to lose our entire army. We still have a big numerical advantage and we should move in as many Machine Guns as possible to lessen the impact of all those Artillery. We finally turned back on research and with a couple of Research builds Flight is a 10 turn tech. We can definitely shave off a turn or two on that as several of our core cities are finishing units this turn. I think Superdeath will attack someone before we complete Flight, though. Mr. Cairo soon-to-be legendary cities have roughly three times the culture of our top cities. Wow. We do have a decent chance of finishing in the top three. Much depends on Superdeath`s intentions at this point..
Just a cursory glance, but it doesn't look to me like Mr. Cairo has sped up his culture push much; it's just that turns keep passing while everyone else fights each other, so his legendaries-to-be build up with time. I'll be curious to see how superdeath plays this.
You mentioned wanting to be in different civics (e.g. SP) - if it's critical, we can eat the anarchy, and if not ... do we still have Great People waiting around, or did we use them all on separate things? Are we expecting any interesting new GPs soon?
We lack both Liberalism and Communism so sadly I don`t think we have time to get State Property. We still have a Merchant and a Scientist around. We could consider running a trade mission but we should probably wait a bit until we`re close to completing Radio. It`s nice to have a Merchant in reserve, just in case of an emergency.
I haven`t really paid too much attention to Great People for a while. I`ll check next turn. We could definitely use another Artist for a culture bomb. If we get another Scientist we could perhaps make a double bulb for some useful tech. |
