Turn 219 rolled over. I had some problems because sunrise's culture took back my 4th coal, which, since I'm giving some to Elkad, Dreylin and Broker, was a problem.
Eventually Elkad came in game and we agreed that he would trade me his coal, which he just got by taking the former shady city of The Theatre. He will pillage, cancel and rebuild next turn, which is when I can cancel my coal gift to him.
Also did some really rough analysis and figured 40% was a wacky estimate for increase in beakers during a Golden Age. 20% looked to be closer to the truth.
But, I'm plugging along at much faster than 0.75% per turn in beaker increase. Whereas I was at like 1045 3 turns ago, I'm currently at 1107. Obviously I can't sustain QUITE that much of an increase, but I upped that to 1%, and upped the base to my current level of 1107.
I will have labs coming online in a few techs, but I'll also be obsoleting the University of Sankore, which based on 21 Hindu Temples is probably good for about 50bpt.
So anyways, my handy dandy spreadsheet has me kicking off a triple golden age on T259 (40 turns from now!), completing the tech tree on T273, launching the spaceship on T283, and winning (?) a few turns after that.
That also got me thinking that if there really are only 54 turns that matter in this game, then my new cities absolutely do not want to be building factories or even forges. I'm going to need to analyze the payoff for those buildings, vs. just building (cheap) libraries and research.

Also, I'm not sure I have posted my current research plan. Originally I was supposed to be researching Rocketry, and trading that to Broker for Plastics.
He reneged on that, though I am sure he would semantically argue that he never "technically" agreed to it, and I looked back through the chat where we discussed it and I guess he can hang his hat on that, though I find it quite lame (probably only because it doesn't benefit me )
So I was walking out of work to my car the other day, and thinking what techs I wanted to research, and all of a sudden it came to me.
Computers! Why computers, you might ask?
The Internet.
Let me repeat myself
THE FREAKING INTERNET!!!!!!!!!!!
The Internet is HUGE for this type of game. We have 2 (well 3 if you count Sunrise and me) groups of techers, which consist of one techer, with 1 or more folks feeding him gold. Once a tech is researched, they then give it to everyone in the group.
So if I get the Internet, I get every tech that Broker/Dreylin/Munro or Twinkletoes/Shadyforce research!!!!!!!!!
Let me repeat that
I GET EVERY TECH THAT BROKER/DREYLIN/MUNRO OR TWINKLETOES/SHADYFORCE RESEARCH!!!!!!!!!
Now, there are a few problems with that
1) They may very well stop trading techs to the other member of the alliance. But to do that, the "junior" partner has to essentially concede that they aren't going to win (which maybe they've done already)
2) It's a problem for sunrise, since he won't get any techs that I get off the Internet. I've talked to him and am going to try to do my own research in such a way that he still gets the essential techs he needs (he's given me a list of the techs that he doesn't really need)
3) If I get off to such a huge tech lead, everyone may gang up on me.
But anyways, I rushed home, all excited to swap my research to Computers, only to realize that it requires Plastics as a pre-req.
So I am on Plastics, along with Broker. I am currently due to finish it in 5 turns (T224) and Broker is a turn behind me.

So it seems that Broker and I are on the same tech, Plastics. As you are no doubt aware, there is a nice continent-wide wonder there available at Plastics - 3 Gorges Dam.
So I thought it might make sense to discuss if we all have plans to build this wonder or not. I will probably make an attempt on it, but I could probably be bought off of it if it's something that you're interested in.
Let me know

Quote:Well the big question is do you want to trade for Industrialism? I am assuming that you are not interested, given your lack of reply from my previous mentions of that, and so I would assume that you are currently researching it.
Seems like the options are:
1) Attack some combination of Broker / Dreylin / Munro. If we're going to do that, now would seem to be the time to do it, as they just revolted to peaceful civics and Broker has told me he wants to build up for 10t or so (thoguh Broker has Cristo so he can revolt back for free, of course)
2) Attack each other or cold war buildup
3) Go for a peaceful end game

Quote:As you have guessed, I am cureently researching Industrialism myself, but after that i am open to trades. I am looking at maybe getting Plastics off someone for whtever my next tech is. If you name a trade you would like for that I can then research that next.
The problem with attacking the others immediately is that I have 10 turn cool-offs with Broker and Munro which I will seek to activate forthwith.
I believe that my urgency to make peace and terms with you guys has demonstrated to you that I do not desire war with you as it would not be beneficial for either of us and would leave Broker a great chance to come level or break ahead of us while we butt heads for no advantage.
Ideally I would like a peaceful run to the end - and if we can work a way of our 4 civs working together against the opposing three we should be successful. Obviously this would mean that we make ourselves targets for Broker and his pals, but I am sure that between us we have an army strong enough to defeat anything they throw at us.
Alongside making it peaceful, we should also make it fair. I would say that a space race - race would be most likely, but that would require an agreement to both be supplied with Aluminium if one of us is without it, and an agreement to avoid The Space Elevator. Now this is me throwing ideas around and I'm sure my second proposal will sound a bit extreme but I think it is the best way to demonstrate goodwill. If you fear Broker then getting it and beating us, remember we can attack them whenever and I'm sure we would have some nukes should worst come to worst!
Let me know your thoughts,

My reply to TT
Quote:TT,
Okay. I am currently researching Plastics, which I would be willing to trade with you. In looking at the tech tree, I wasn't sure what made sense for that. Plastics is 10500 beakers I believe, and everything else that you could research (Rocketry, Medicine, etc) was more along the lines of 7000 beakers. Do you have any ideas that would make sense? What if I fronted Industrialism and saved you the rest of that? Would something along the lines of half of Industrialsm and Plastics for Rocketry and Medicine make sense?
Am I correct that our tech trading would include shadyforce and sunrise?
I am pretty sure Broker is going for a culture win. He just revolted to Rep (with the Statue of Liberty) as well as Free Speech and also just built the Eiffel Tower (broadcast towers in every city).
I am also fairly sure that we both have aluminum, and I would be okay with neither of us going for the Space Elevator, if that made sense.
Thoughts?

Broker (surprise, surprise) initiated our cool down agreement
Quote:I was thinking over the weekend and examining all my agreements. While I have no plans to attack you and I dont feel you have plans to attack me I believe our NAP is not very useful to me. I would like to inititate the cool down period at this time. It is getting late in the game and I feel I need the flexibility.
This was after the current turn rolled to 1560 AD, so I think that makes that T222?

Quote:Hi guys,
Not really sure what's going on. I understand if RL is tight - it happens. For all I know you're planning on attacking me when our peace treaty ends.
It seems a fair bet that Broker is going for a cultural victory. Built Eiffel Tower (Broadcast tower in every city which is 50% culture I believe), revolted to caste, rep (powered by Statue of Liberty) and free speech (100% culture). Also got a Great Artist a turn or two ago.
He also initiated our 10t cool down period.
I proposed a trade including partial credit for Industrialism but have not heard back. Every turn that we delay an agreement (and you put beakers into a tech I already have) is beakers lost, and conversely beakers that Broker gets.
If we fight (or even if we don't manage to pull things together), Broker wins.
I put a few cities on research (mostly newer ones that can't really build anything in time.
End tech date for me is currently slated to be T271, which is 49 turns away.

Also get my 3rd GP next turn. I have an artist and scientist - this one has about 75% odds to be a sci. I need 2 of the next 4 to not be scis, though my backup plan is that sunrise said he can give or trade me a merchant (or maybe two)

Quote:Sorry for sporadic contact - RL is absolutely crazy right now but I'll keep going with PB don't worry.
In terms of Industrialism, I would rather just finish the last couple of turns of research and work on trades after that.
In terms of Broker's threat of a culture win - we can see it a mile off and nukes/strong military isn't far away so I think you are overestimating the threat slightly!
Also Broker confirmed that T232 is the day
