RBP4 [SPOILERS] - Shaka of Zulu (sunrise089, regoarrarr, and friends)

Chat log dump, but it's short, and all on the same topic

Quote:are you more interested in our spreading christianity discussion? Whether it's you provide the missionary or we provide the missionary for a "commission" of part of the shrine income?
Lord: well I'd like to help you out, but I think there's a difference in our perceptions of the usefulness of that arrangement...
I don't know if I play the "smart" way or not regarding religion, but my take on it is that it's a means to the fifth civic branch. So basically I spread it around all my cities for the religious bonuses (and of course the extra wonder bonuses), but I'm kind of ambivalent as to where else it spreads. Hope that makes sense. smile
me: well every city that has christianity
gives you 1.25 gold
and up to 2 gold with grocer and bank
so it seems that you would want to spread that to as many cities as posible
Lord: sure, but that's fairly insignificant relative to the benefits of +4 hammers from the religious buildings that become available
me: but
so
Lord: so my main purpose in spreading it is for the hammer benefit in my own land
me: right
so it's worth some value to me to build say a christian temple
Lord: but I view spreading it in other peoples' lands as just giving them free hammers smile
me: but if i have to spend 40 hammers on a missionary and 80 hammers on a temple
that's 120 hammers for a 2h/t payback
Lord: or not free, but 1-2 gpt doesn't equal 4 hammers
me: 60t payback horizon
and might not be worth it
(or lower in priority)
but if i either a) got a missionary so it's only y80h investment
or b) received a portion of the shrine income
then it might make more sense for me
and help you which helps us
right?
Lord: The temple/monastery investment pays itself back over the course of a couple of dozen turns (and continues to pay back even more in the future).
me: well a monastery is going to expire before too long
Lord: Ok, Temple doesn't though
me: right
so it paybacks in 60t
pays back
Lord: I guess the main thing is that you're very, very interested in something I have pretty much no interest in, so it's a bit hard to strike up a deal. smile
me: ok
it's just very different from most other players that i've played with
to not at all be interested in shrine income
i guess that's why i keep bringing it up
Lord: Try to imagine it from my perspective... it's as if I was asking you to pay me to spread Buddhism, or something. Something you're probably not interested in doing, in return for something that gets me access to new buildings I want.
me: yes that's true
but if i was adlain
i'd be very interested in getting you to spread buddhismi
in fact he did give me 1 missionary
and gave me a good deal on 2 other ones
Lord: Fair enough... maybe I'm not playing particularly sensibly then. I by no means know all the tricks. I've just never really been interested in trying to expand Shrines at any cost.
Ok, I guess Adlain's more interested in the religious game than me then smile

I"m really confused why he's not interested in subsidizing our spreading christianity. Seems like a pretty classic "win-win" there

Open Borders is also classic win-win, but he showed no interest in that either.

Well at least there it had the option to "win" more for us having GLH. This one I really am confused on

Quote:Hey there,

Thought I'd check in.

It looks like you're going for Liberalism. I'd just caution you to be very careful about sandbagging it (if you've thought to try and do it). I've heard rumors of other players going for it, and maybe using scientist bulbs and such. So if I were you, I'd just go for it and take Nationalism or Printing Press.

Anything else going on?

I also told Nakor to try and catch me on chat as I didn't really want to respond via email

So tech-wise, we swapped to Machinery last turn and will finish it this turn, and then on to Civil Service. We're up to 185gpt at max gold, and are sniffing at 40% breakeven science rate yikes CS should take about 6 turns at our current rate.

Economically we have 2 ikhandas (go spelling bee!), 1 harbor and 1 courthouse completing at EOT, which should add 12gpt to our bottom line. We also have a whopping 12 (!) cities growing to the next size this turn, so we may even sneak our way into 6th place in score (currently 45 points behind Moogle)

I've also been trying to keep track somewhat of other folks tech pace. Adlain, even after I "reminded" him, did not send me another screenshot, which means that he probably isn't interested, which makes some sense.

But that's okay, I've been able to keep track of some things. 4 folks have Alphabet, so obviously I can get them. And things like LP discovering Islam, or plako mentioning iron (though I guess that doesn't mean necessarily that he has IW, but it's probably a good guess)

Quote:Thank you for news. Yeah I dont think it is big secret that we were trying for Liberalism. I am pretty sure we will get unless teams can get Philosophy and Education and Liberalism all in next few turns. :D Dont worry we are not going to get greedy if we get free tech. I think that is stupid idea in MP. Only works for SP.

Since you write, I will give you biggest news for current turn. Parkin has just teched Nationalism (!!!!!) through weird path through Divine Right. That is free Golden Age for him. And he has Mausoleum already. frown I think teams need to organize for real against Parkin. Have you seen his GNP on chart? I know it failed before with plako but have to keep trying right? If everyone do nothing now, Parkin will keep teching until we all lose. I think other MP civ games show that waiting and doing nothing is bad strategy.

What do you think? You are close to Parkin and know more about him. If we could all somehow get Astronomy then we could maybe do something together. Ideas?

I agree with you that he's a problem. I'm not sure what we can do about it. Obviously we'd need multiple powers and coordination. And last time I tried to organize something like that, not only did it not work, but someone sold me out to plako. So I'm not super excited about trying to lead that again....

I don't think waiting for Astronomy will work - it's got to go now. But somebody's got to put "boots on the ground" Up to now, everyone has just been interested in having other people do work and sitting back. So until some folks want to actually DO something, I don't think it's going to work...
