[Spoilers] Fintourist and Old Harry have nothing to see here

(November 18th, 2013, 13:04)Old Harry Wrote: Do you think Suttree is still maintaining the turn split with us or just doesn't get to play until the evening?

No idea.. If he puts the effort to play after us during 10 turns of enforced peace I think it would meet the defininition of gaming the clock tongue But yeah, good point. Let's pay attention to what suttree does during the next turns. I'm sure we need to be prepared to whip a bunch of units when our peace is about to expire even if all his actions would look peaceful.

Turn 121 midnight snack

Lord Parkin will repulse this insideous foe - it would be nice if the axe moved north, but it'll probably move east and force our worker to retreat. Ichabod has a lot of workers over here. Just because of all the jungle? Next turn we can pop the borders in Nuremberg, should we? Or will that upset Ichabod?

Our army is back in our borders - saving us 8gpt. Nibru would have been building a spear, but when Eridu fell it converted to a warrior, so the overflow might complete another warrior or go into an archer.

Offered maps to dtay again so he can see what Mack is up to. Hope his reputation reaches far enough north that dtay leaves us alone to bother our neighbour.

The world is certainly in flames. Its very early to be this war-torn isn't it? I think we need to keep an eye that Suttree and Mack don't sign open borders.

Power - Suttree keeps going up, but we'll know which way he's coming from in plenty of time. Mack keeps going up too. frown

M_H still has iron connected and that warrior has woodsman promo so I guess it's just one of his earlier units. I'm sure that by the time we can attack the city there will be 1 additional real defender, but I would be suprised if m_h can get there something more.

The city is cut off from his trade network - although where the woodsman promo comes from I don't know...

Turn 122

Got an empty diplo screen from WilliamLP, then a spice-sugar offer from plako. We're four turns from growing Cannae into unhappy, so I'll decline and we can re-offer next turn. Plako also offers open borders, we have one more city than him still, but out trade routes are all full so we would only get 3gpt for this. So I declined as well.

Taoism spread to France this turn. smile Also the barb axe moved away from our borders! I think we finish the jungle chop and move LP south east. We can spread taoism to Nuremburg on t124 so I've taken the artist off. Dhalphir captured a barb city.

Should we cover the worker at Midway with a bowman? dtay has a decent army in Milos, so Slow probably won't make any more progress. I wonder if one of them is holding out against peace?

And oh crap. Here is an m_h Galley. We can upgrade our warrior in Cannae to an axe for 80 gold and get the warriors from Agincourt or BoP and one of our chariots to the city next turn. If there are two axes on the galley we should hold out but it'll be close. I suspect its empty but I don't think we can take the chance.

Madrid's borders have popped, so Brick can't stay hidden any more. What should we do with him?

Other things:
- the workers at Jamestown who just finished the pasture should finish the mine for the city
- continue pre-chopping around Nuremburg or road to Omdurman?
- where to move our army - next to Nibru? Don't forget to move a chariot into range of Cannae...
- what to do with the worker NE-NE of Koniggratz?
- I didn't look at tile assignments much

No open borders between Suttree and YM yet.

Really, really annoying. rant Yeah, we must upgrade our warrior to an axe.. I also expect that the galley is empty. I would expect that m_h would use his units to defend against mackoti... But... M_h's play has not really made any kind of sense during the whole game so we can't really be surprised of anything.. rolleye

EDIT: I will comment on all the other things a bit later.

Do everything you can for Cannae - no sense taking any risks with a size 12 city. And for the love of goodness after this whole situation is resolved we need to sort out the garrisons in our cities so that stuff like this never need happen again. Also might as well leave Brick on that hill; I think his vision is useful.

Due to our central position stuff like this is never going to end.. rolleye Our game will be basically always war as long as we exist. Hopefully not with all our neighbors though..

Eventually ideally I'd like us to have four units in each of our coastal cities, one more than galleons can carry, so we can't be boated unexpectedly, and adequate garrisons in each of our landward border cities obviously. Till Astronomy, I think we should have at least two good units in each city that can be threatened out of the fog by galleys, and in each city that could be threatened out of the fog by a three-moving Great General (approaching either by road or out of a galley). Sorry to bring it up again, but in 46 the only cities I ever lost were those I had only one unit in (too slow moving a second up), and those I left only three trash units in in the age of galleons. In all these cases, all I needed was one more - not even good - defender. Let's not make the same mistake!

(What I would advocate doing is, aside from stuffing another unit into a few more vulnerable water-cities now, when we build our knight stack, demobilize most of our current stack and distribute it amongst our cities.)

Sorry to nitpick.

Sorry no proper report tonight - we upgraded the axe and can have four units in the city next turn, we'll see how that goes...

I agree our current stack will be excellent MP, we just need to get that far!
