Yeah, that's a risk with that sort of leader-assignment algorithm. I think you'd have been far better off with an algorithm where your best strategy is always to put your picks in order of preference. That's just my view though, perhaps people like the extra layer of strategy in the leader picks.

That *IS* how the pick algorithm worked... there was no disadvantage at all for putting Gandhi before Monty if they thought Gandhi was better. They just didn't realize that at the time.

Wait, what now? So, if we had something like this:

Player A
------
1) Gandhi
2) Montezuma

Player B
------
1) Montezuma
2) something else

Player C
------
1) Gandhi
2) something else

And nobody else picks Monty or Gandhi... It would go like this:

1) dice roll for Gandhi - C wins
2) dice roll for Montezuma

Instead of

2) Montezuma handed out for free because it was only top on 1 list

Right.

No, that's not correct. Cause if it was how would you determine to evaluate players A and B before C? Everyone is evaluated simultaneously so player 2 would definitely secure Montezuma in the above scenario.

I go back and forth nearly every day whether to truck on or tap out. And to Xenu who isn't used to playing with REM, it can certainly look like he's camping the timer when he goes literally days without even logging in. I don't think it's that - I just think REM doesn't has the necessary RL time to be playing in one of these games right now. It's roughly once every 3 turns or so that it gets held for days. I don't think he's going to find a sub, though.

I've also been toying with the idea of just offering REM peace, swapping into full military civics and builds in every single city, completely ignoring tech, and using the peace window to just go kill some stuff (pindicator, Donovan or whatever) with Panzers/Marines/etc before conceding because that sounds fun, and I might as well have some fun I guess. Maybe get Flight and then not bother with tech from there and see what kind of death machine I can rev up? It would be a shame to come this close to finally seeing Panzers in an RB game only for the game to end right as they're beginning to build.

Of course, doing that forfeits our very remote chance at victory, but what I'm getting at is the pace has harmed my enthusiasm enough that I care about that less than I used to.

I really want to apologise for and am truly sorry for the issues towards the end of the game. It was mostly completely unavoidable. It wasn't really due to the amount of pit bosses but more the time of year and rota peculiarities. In my job at this time of year I have to prepare for a year progress review to make it to my next training year. During the year I am supposed to write a minimum of 3 30ish minute reflective learning entries a week, log skills performed and other learning stuff that is dull at best and a nightmare at worst. So it is always a huge push in the months of June/July to get anything done. (Plus I rotate to a new job at the beginning of August)

This then coincided with my awful rota which puts you on back to back weekends. In the days it is irritating and the hospital wifi doesn't like games and seems to DC me after 5 mins, and it is really difficult after a 12 hour shift to muster up the mental power to play. The nights are worse. Despite me doing them from home, and probably being in work for 6-8 hours of the shift I really struggle with the body clock changes. I am like a zombie. I can stumble through things but I would have been making huge amounts of mistakes. I spend most of the between night shifts in a daze trying to get a few hours here and there in case something kicks off and I need to use a modicum of sense.

Finally I had some heavy duty family stuff rolling in late June early July that wasn't great either. However, my father is back to work now after his surgery and is all good.

I do feel terrible that I slowed this game a bit, but apart from like 2 turns I was turning them around within 36ish hours of being able to play usually. My main issue was needing 2 login times to see, digest and respond to what I saw with such an intensely packed map that was all around a pretty perfect arena.

I wish I could have committed to played the ren game to bring it up to 7, and perhaps could of with most things settled down now, but I'm happy enough on a team there. Maybe the next one. Turn commitments are quite light for me currently actually all things considered.

Great read though. If I had my time again going for pind was definitely a mistake, and I should have stockpiled ships and marines and gone for a crippling blow on you guys at some point. Fun stuff smile

No worries, and I hope reading my usual stream-of-consciousness style complaints in here weren't too much. Totally understand life taking over - it happens. It was a really unusual situation. Life has taken over for players before, and we just find a sub (temporary or permanent) and move on. Xenu took over for BGN in this game, and nobody even blinked. It's different though with the leader of the game. I wanted to win, but I definitely didn't want to win because life happened and forced a player of much less skill to take over for you and blow it. That definitely colored some of my frustration, so if I said anything completely unfair (honestly I don't remember), that's probably why. I certainly understand the time it took to actually play the turns because it was a grind for me too. Knowing that one mistake on a ridiculously complex battlefield will end your game is pretty intense!

Anyway, I hope the dust continues to settle for you and life returns completely to normalcy.

I'm pretty much back to normal now which is nice. Probably gonna have slightly less time this year with a step up of work come exam times but that is always the case. Looking forward to seeing you try the imp/org splurge in 35!
