[SPOILERS] Team EggHeads: DMOC and TeddyKGB (Now Lurker-Friendly!)

1. Markets: Only the capital strikes me as needing one now (it has the most food so it'll have high pop and need happiness from the silk we'll get from OxySut, and it has some developed cottages for gold), markets in general are a luxury that I often skip in favor of just building wealth.

2. I would suggest not building any more settlers (we have three (!) in production); we need more workers right now, not settlers. I'd suggest Berkeley switch to building a worker, personally --- what do you think?

3. 10th city probably should go west of wheat, so we can claim that grassland/forest area before Orgynized.

4. Yes, we need intel info about Rome's city.

5. Let's collect gold and aim for Construction. At least we get cheap colosseums, right?

6. Don't forget, with currency we should try to build wealth in cities that can work mines. And keep cottaging, too.

7. Scout / warrior moves? Any way we can get them to the south? want to ask Orgynized if we can pass through one tile to get around?

Edit: After Cornell finishes its military unit productions, do you think it'd be a candidate for building Wealth? We already have library/granary/barracks combo there … UC Berkeley would be another wealth-building Candidate. MIT is probably our best wealth-building city, but it's also our best military production center...

Just to add something: starting Thursday, January 2, I will have enough time to devote myself to the game "full-time." Right now my life is a little crazy, but Jan 2 is after all the dust settles. wink If you think there's something more important to do you should have priority as you've seen the game more than I have.

I just whip a settler in Stanford. I was gonna plant it SW of gold.
I'll whip settler in UC in 2 turn, his gonna plant W of Wheat.
Cap settler go to filler probably, I got some talking with Yos about fur site. We had to wait his response.

Silk on t102 will get us +2 happy in CM, cause we'll get Market there.
Some other cities start markets. Not sure we will finish it before OR+Monarchy switch.

Pictures here later.
Reply

Yes, the silk will help with the market. But I was just unsure if we should be emphasizing markets since we won't get Calendar soon, and we might be better off building wealth. Also, after this next round of settlers, we really need to focus more on workers.

Looking forward to pictures later.

Tech path?

Construction -> Meditation/Monotheism/Polytheism/Priethood (in some order) -> Monarchy? Does this seem okay? With the marble we could even afford a digression to the Aesthetics/Literature wonders, but then again, for Cataphracts, we want Metal Casting -> Machinery.

I really wish we could just head for Monarchy, but Rome is forcing us to research Construction. frown

Some diplo updates:

From Dinosaurs:

Quote:Rome is working now on construction.

How many barbarians did you killed? We killed 21 warriors and 4 axamans

My response:

Quote:Allies,

Wow, 21 warriors and 4 axemen! I can't log into the game right now due to it being the holiday season in the U.S., but I don't think we've even killed five warriors yet! And we haven't killed a single axeman. Part of it might be because we and our Indian neighbors quickly grabbed the land, leaving little for barbarians to spawn.

Say, we're also researching Construction at the moment, though sadly we're just collecting gold. It looks like this will be the right decision for us, especially if Rome starts coming at us with catapults. If you wouldn't mind me asking, what technologies are we all researching? It would be nice to be on the same page, such as if we need to ask a certain team for catapults.

Sincerely,
DMOC of Team EggHeads

From Orgynized: (Yes smile … we get a religion and get on their good side for once … we should probably have a plan for worker A or some other northern worker.)

Quote:Lovely!
I take this as a sign of cooperation and will now make a missionary as fast as possible (I have to slave one first)
Any title by Leia is fine.

Recall that my earlier offer to them was this:

Quote:Team Orgynized,

We apologize for the delay in getting back to you. We would officially like to "purchase" one of your Hindu missionaries.

Our offer is that we can gift you a worker in exchange for a Hindu missionary and 40 gold. A worker costs 20 hammers more than a missionary, so we hope that the gold can help make up for the uneven hammer costs. To add incentives for you, once we get your religion, we'll be actively spreading it to the rest of our cities (as we have no religion right now), so you can reap increased benefits from the shrine.

If you agree to this deal, we would like for you to spread Hinduism to the city of MIT by turn 105, and to send the 40 gold by then. On turn 105, we will gift you one of our workers who will enter Leia's culture borders. (Let us know if you'd like the worker on a specific tile, or even in another city.)

Let us know what you think.

Sincerely,
DMOC of Team EggHeads

My response:

Quote:Team Orgynized,

Thanks for agreeing! We will gift you a worker on turn 105 in Leia's borders, and I'll try to give forest tiles a higher priority for our worker in case you want to road or chop it. In return, we hope to have 40 gold and Hinduism in MIT by that same turn, and then we'll work on spreading the religion around. (Say, you do have visibility into MIT, right? Just checking because I think I recall seeing your warrior near the area once.)

Unfortunately, it looks like the fastest way to send a missionary to MIT is through the land north of the lakes that were in the "contested region" picture you sent us a while ago, and it's a bunch of hills and forests, so just be aware of that and let us know if you'll have trouble with the timing.

Sincerely,
DMOC of Team EggHeads

Teddy, any idea on setting up a road connection so that they can get the Hindu missionary to MIT quickly? It looks like the fastest way is for them to go along the two lakes west of MIT. Sadly, it's a lot of hills/forest, so traveling will be slow.

40 gold right now is also how much we make at 0% (roughly) so it'll definitely help us out on turn 105.

Good news about missionary. Just note that Orgy got GPro some turns ago. There is no Hindu shrine on Wonders screen, tho.
So they could settle it, or more likely keep it to bulb Theology soon and build AP.

As for road, I was planning to found city there SW of gold soon. We might road to sheep eventually.

Orgy just planted two more cities.

Tech part, I agree. We also need Calendar and IW somehow. Also CoL would be nice. Maybe if we lucky with GM we could bulb CS.

Sorry again, I'm still kinda busy. I will finish the turn in the next 1-2 hours and hope to post full report with pictures.

T97.

Didn't notice 1st time, but Orgy founded Cristianity in Leia.
Most likely by bulb GP.

At the start of t98 another religion founded, probably CoL by Asterix cause he just logged in game before religion founded.

And most important, we got Hinduism auto spread in UWash. Lets hope it keep spreading and Orgy will build AP soon.

Top GNP is insane. Asterix's most likely or SutOxy's.
Top power keep growing big, we are 2nd right now.

Didn't look closely on scores, so I was wrong.

Orgy found just one city last turn.
Another +18 score inc during turn was Medieval tech bulb, so Theology. If I'm not mistaken again.
Reply

So it seems like

1. Team Orgynized used their Great Prophet from Stonehenge to bulb Theology instead of the Hindu shrine?
2. Asterix researched Code of Laws, so he's up Calendar and Code of Laws on us. frown

And since Orgynized has Theology, it looks like they're aiming to build The Apostolic Palace. But what I'm a little worried about is if they're going to make Christianity the state religion (note: this is the religion that was founded via Theology, and is just coincidence that it corresponds to the real tech in a no-choose religion game) instead of Hinduism. What would happen in that case? Would we have to worry if they spread Christianity to one of our cities? They finally converted to Hinduism, by the way … which doesn't make sense to me, since it means they failed to take advantage of the +1 happiness in cities. ???

Just a little concerned since the AP might be used to make us do stuff we wouldn't otherwise want to do. But overall, if they're spending production on religion, that should only increase our food and production advantage since we're focusing on pure expansion/research now (but unfortunately we must invest in military, as well).

-----------------------------------
Other comments on the game:

1. I think we should definitely convert to Hinduism at some point, especially since we'll get a second city with the religion in 7 turns. The question is, when? It looks like Washington could actually use the extra happiness right now. And I think we want to convert before turn 102 so that we don't essentially waste a turn of the silk that SutOxy are giving us. I think Moai can still be done (or at least it'll be almost done) by then. We could theoretically convert now (t98)…we also have a settler moving right now so anarchy wouldn't affect the city founding date...

2. When do you think we should resume Great Scientist production in Carnegie Mellon and UC Berkeley? I know right now we need wealth but getting a second Great Person soon is also important, and the timing of an Engineer/Scientist could coincide well with either a Classical/Medieval wonder or a bulb towards the Liberalism tech path. (Not that I think Liberalism is a high priority for us, though.)

3. 10th city, Georgia Tech, and 11th city is Caltech. As I said before I suggest founding them (1) west of Berkeley so we can make use of cottages there ASAP, and also (2) to share the gold so that we can compete with Orgynized culture to get the sheep. We'll need to migrate some workers over to the west, if you haven't done so already.

4. Carnegie Mellon still needs 2 grasslands cottaged. Any idea when those could happen?

5. Glad to see UT Austin is building wealth; the city doesn't really need a market right now, and we'll get to share the mines soon once UWashington starts working coastal tiles. Uwashington is also a candidate to build wealth once it finishes the Moai Statues.

6. Should we be concerned about our low imports/exports?

7. Are there workers cottaging the remaining riverside grassland in UTAustin/Princeton area? (They'd need to chop for Princeton, though --- might net us another worker or two.)

I have to say, I've never seen a game where the hemispheres are so different. Here, all the northern civilizations are grabbing the rewards (wonders, cities, Great People, religion, etc.). lol I wonder what will happen in the south, where there's still a ton of land to settle.

About Orgy.
I did chat with Arki. He is very hard to get info from.
Anyways, AP time is t110-115. We decide he build missionary and we'll see if we need one.
We could trade a worker for 40g+religion, sure.
He is currently working on missionary for Yos (that what Yos said, not Arki)

More interesting thing:
Quote:I may have longbows by less than 10 turns from now or even xbows

He might be overoptimistic here a little. I suppose he is working on Monarchy now and he has some gold in treasure still.
But he has low MFG at the moment. And I don't believe he could research MC+Machinery in 10 turns.
He is kinda scary of neighbours right now. Sut told me their NAP ends t120, and our NAP till t125.

Also we talked about Rome a bit. Maybe it will relax Arki a little, knowing we had our problems on the other side of the land.
His last words in chat were:
Quote:I be in touch through mail. I may have a plan
