Okay, let's start with an overview shot of my lands.
Yaz has only been dead a few turns but I've placed both my cities on his continent, including my Iron Works/Maoi. I have also settled one site on the northern island. I've got six more cities to settle it looks like. Two more on the northern island. One
north of the northern island (an exploring Tireme just found a Fish up there), one west of the northern island (you can see the Fish), one south of Yaz's capital, and one more to go on my main island that picks up Rice and not much else. I'm up to 12 cities now, tied with Krill at the moment. Here is Washington:
I just completed the National Epic and plan on placing Oxford here as well. That's a really odd combo, I doubt believe I have ever done it before, however I think its a good idea in this case. My plan is to work (in addition to all the land tiles) an Engineer and six Scientists. I'm surprisingly close to Representation, and my beaker total will be best here. It will also let me stay in slavery and still run lots of scientists, which is a nice bonus. Here's New York:
Note that Stone
just got pulled into my borders. I timed New York to grow the turn this happened. I'll swap two coast tiles to a new farm NW of the Corn and the Copper tile. That gives me two food surplus, which I'll probably just use to slow grow onto coastal tiles for whipping purposes. The Hanging Gardens should complete in 3 turns, which is nice considering I'll have 13 cities
. I am probably going to put the Heroic Epic here. Now on to Boston:
Boston is going to get a Grocer queued and whipped next, since I have Guilds now. I'm going Banking -> Economics next so I'll also be whipping a Bank. Finally I plan on whipping a University for Oxford, but that's probably last. I have a tone of pop here that I've been building up in anticipation of all these whips. I'm also finally starting to work on those Incense tiles, I'll probably end up working them both once Biology and Sid's comes in. Here is Philly:
This is my second best commerce city long term, due to the river tiles. I haven't had a chance to work cottages as I've been production focused, and I doubt that will change anytime soon. This is is my third University city. Now Atlanta:
A big drop off from my previous cities, unfortunately. I am saving those two forests for lumber mills. Atlanta is the only city I have with a half cost Courthouse, but that should change fairly soon. She's also my fourth University city. Chicago:
This is my fifth University city. Again, saving that forest tile for a lumber mill. I almost chopped it since one forsest doesn't give a health boost, but decided to keep it in the end. Seattle:
My sixth and final (for now) University city. I am about to reclaim the sugar tile, which will help my growth quite a bit. This is a fairly good hybrid city with four hills for production and enough surplus food to work five cottages as well (once I get my tiles back). San Francisco:
Again, I plan on putting a lumbermill on those two forest tiles. This city will be pure production, I plan on putting a Workshop on the plains river tile and building a Drydocks here and then nothing but Navy. Los Angeles:
This is a great city site, with Fish and two Gold. It was very recently founded; I built Culture to get a border pop last turn and there is a workboat already in place to improve the Fish. Yaz's old capital:
I'm a bit worried on losing the Dye to Ruff, so I'll probably put a Theater, Library, University in this city after getting my Forge and Harbor in place (the Granary was retained!). This is a really weak city because most of the tiles are going to end up with my Ironworks city. I'll keep that cottage, the Rice/Clams/Dye and one more grassland cottage. And some coast. The Great Wall is useless to me on this map (at least I hope it is). I keep forgetting to rename this city New Tehran
. Houston:
This is going to be my Ironworks city. I've got Iron/Copper/Horse/Cow and one Hill for 16H. I'll build Maoi as well for another 7 hammers. I'll probably workshop the rest of the tiles once Sid's comes in. This city will be quite nice
. Note that I built culture here as well to get the border pop, I really need a missionary. Portland:
I wanted to quickly found this city to get the stone inside my borders for the hanging Gardens. I used a missionary AND built culture here to get the border pop in 2 turns (used a Worker). Long term this site bites. And my last city to take advantage of the Hanging Gardens:
Hasn't been settled yet
. However, it should be settled in 3 turns. I don't think it will get the Hanging Gardens bonus unless I delay the wonder, which I guess I'm prepared to do. Here is my Great Person just born in Washington last turn:
It was 50/50 GM/GE. I badly wanted the GE, but oh well. He's headed to Krill's capital which is big popped for now (although I expect whips to begin shortly). My finances:
My city maintenance is just nasty. I expect ORG to start helping me out, you can see I'm already saving 21 gpt on civic expenses and as I get my half cost Courthouses up in advance of Sid's, I'll save many hammers. I still don't make a lot of beakers because I've been busy with units instead of Libraries and Universities. That is about to change, I think as I grow vertical my GNP potential is quite good. I missed out on several good wonders early so I'll be chasing Krill for a while, but I do think as he goes to war mode and I gain access to Constitution I'll probably catch him. Maybe. Civics:
I don't believe I will ever switch my Labor or Religion civics. I'll go Free Market once Economics comes in. For Government I definitely plan on going to Representation, and for Legal I guess Free Speech although on this map it might be some time. Religion:
You'd think I was running Theocracy
. GNP:
Impressive SL
. I have no idea how he is matching Krill, this graph can be really misleading, but maybe his capital is just that good. Production:
Been a long time since Krill was complaining about how good my production was. Now, I really get most of my hammers from the whip, but again here I have a problem:
Krill, for the same number of cities, has by my count six more seafood resources and two more Pigs. That is a problem...a very big problem. Finally, power:
You can see Krill has already started putting together troops for his invasion plans. Victory conditions:
Krill has 1/3 the world's population, and I have 1/4. Keep in mind he's been growing onto Colossus coastal tiles in anticipation of whipping a huge army. The more interesting thing is that I'm at 13.35% of the land area. I think I'll get to 20% fairly easily with the tiles remaining to me. That means Krill has to claim 66/80 or 82.5% of the remaining tiles to hit Domination. I really need Dreylin/SL/Ruff to slow him down
. Krill thinks SL will come to Dreylin's aid in the upcoming war, but I'm not so sure.
On the tech front, here is the next round:
Krill - 1209 + 2003 (Astro) + 1335 (Printing*Press) + 1502 (Nationalism) + 1670*(Constitution) + 1335 (Corporation) = 9054
Darrell -*584 (Banking) +*1169 (Economics) + 1715 (Scientific Method) + 3005 (Biology) + 3755 (Medicine) = 10228*
*
Krill is also going to tech Rifling I'm sure, which will put me about 1000 beakers in his debt. He said he'd take 400 gold to make up the difference. Obviously I am going for a Sid's beeline. That's the key corporation for this game, and I see no reason to delay it one second.
