I was just involved in fixing a game option in pbem #11 via opening the game as a pitboss game. Thinking more on that, it might be possible to start our pbem game as a pitboss game and play the first x (say 15 or 20?) turns in one sitting and then flip over to a pbem game.

This would give us a flying start. Thoughts?

Totally agree. Actually, we should test it so that we understand the transition situation.

Re timer - I was thinking of a 12 hr timer and an understanding that there is no pressure to rush ... if you take 5 or 10 minutes per turn, then good for you. The turn rolls when you hit the timer or everyone hits END-O-TURN.

Interesting idea. I could possibly give this a go. Question is what day and what time and if everyone can attend? Would also need an agreement to how many turns we would try and achieve in the time scale.

5-10 mins / turn sounds adequate and should be more than enough for me (possibly) but would be annoyed if I couldnt take my time and not manage to play my turn adequately to a degree the PBEM would allow. I'd much prefer to hit the end turn and turn timer off - but of course that runs the risk that we are waiting on each other more. Might need to be on gmail chat or something so we all know where we stand, in terms of who has what left to do - or if there is an unsuspected interuption which would take us away from the pc.

At any rate, a pitboss should be faster than a pbem and should be manageable for the first 15-25 turns (especially since four out of five teams are basically in the same time zone). Remember, if you're just building a worker and researching bronze working, you can just put your scout on goto if you fear missing a turn.

We would need someone to host the game for a few days, though.

Maybe we wouldn't gain all that much from doing this, but I'd like to do it just for the novelty. It's also a nice proof of concept on how to kickstart future PBEMs.
