[SPOILERS - PBEM19] Huayna Capac of Ottomans - yuris125 & Maestro

2 Workers is definitely enough. Oracle costs 100 hammers. If 2 Workers chop 4 forests, it will produce 13*4 + 50% bonus = 52+26 = 78 hammers. Ultra will produce 7 + 50% = 10 hammers per turn. If anything, we will need to worry about not building it too early lol

Because Ultra produces an odd number of hammers, we should consider staggering the chops. If two chops come on the same turn, Ultra will produce (7+26)*1.5=49.5 hammers, rounded down, i.e. 49. Next turn, it will produce 7*1.5=10.5 hammers, again rounded down, so 59 in 2 turns. If we stagger the chops, (7+13)*1.5=30 hammers will be produced each turn, 60 in 2 turns. A hammer saved is a hammer earned!

Approximate Worker movement plan: Vakhtang finishes the mine and roads the hill, then moves E onto the forest and chops it into a Settler. Not sure if the new Worker will have spare time; if he will, he can build a mine on the plains hill SE. With 3 turns remaining to Priesthood, they move into position, and with 2 turns remaining start to chop (one of them with one turn delay, to stagger the actions as described). One of them should chop E of the capital, then NE of that tile, the other - 1N2W of the cap, then NE of that tile. The plains forest 1N2E can be spared - not sure if we'll need it to finish Oracle on time

Moved the units. Ranamar founded a city this turn (he has a pop increase, but the demos are not consistent with pop growth)! Commodore discovered a 2-turn tech - Fishing? Why would he research Fishing before BW, is he going for TGLH?

Most importantly

MNG Wrote:Good morning!

You will notice that my scouting warrior has come across your settling party east of your capital near the wines. I am afraid I don't have much time to send a well-crafted "hello" note, but just want to say how excited I am to be meeting your team, and to finally be able to communicate in game!

Until later,
MNG, Hattie of France

I don't know where exactly his Warrior is, but he could be a threat to our Settler

Found MNG's Warrior on the hill 1S3W of the capital, where we planned to move Till this turn. Moved him there anyway. Moved the Settler 1S2W onto the sugar, so that he isn't next to the Warrior. Moved Philipp onto the copper. Left the new Warrior in the capital - we don't want to switch to an emergency Warrior while building the Oracle, so it has to be protected

Borders expand at the end of turn

Demos show that everyone now has a size 4 capital, Ranamar also has a second city. Interesting that Ranamar's land area didn't increase, the only reason I can think of is that he did revolt to Slavery, but it wasn't displayed in the demos - so I was wrong

Proposed reply to MNG, feel free to make any changes, but I'd like to send it not later than MNG receives the save (EDIT: Commodore turned around the turn quickly, so sent)

Quote:Greetings MNG!

We're just as excited to welcome you to Radioland! Our radio stations will play festive music all day to celebrate this occasion! Hope you have peaceful intentions, and our Workers don't have to fear that big club your Warrior has smile

You will notice that our borders expanded this turn. If the plans of your Warrior include exploration of the eastern lands, we'd like to advise that the only way to get there is to the south of our capital. Feel free to look around though!

Should you wish to discuss any deals, we would be very happy to do so

Would you mind us asking if you have met other nations?

Best regards

That message sounds fine to me. We can also include our gmails (I'll be using maestro.rb for this game) for chat purposes. Do you mind having us both availble for diplomatic chats, or would you prefer to be the designated voice for the team?

He sent the message to my GMail account, and I included you in the Cc on reply, so he should have both of them

I think both of us can send diplomatic messages and sign treaties, but if we feel the need to pause negotiations and discuss things between ourselves, we should do so. I trust we're wise enough to decide if this is necessary smile

The save came to me, but I wasn't sure of the entire plan, so I'm letting it sit until you can get to it. What will we build in city #2? A worker? Barracks? For that matter, what will we name city #2? lol

Also, Phillip could put a turn into roading the copper, but MNG's warrior is in striking distance of that tile, and I'm not sure I want to tempt him without a NAP. Instead I'd propose moving Phillip NW, put a turn of roading in, cover him with Till, then come back and start mining copper next turn (under the protection of Till). This plan doesn't delay copper at all, since the mine will finish on the same turn, and we'll need to road both copper and NW to connect it. The question is, do we connect it immediately, or move to pigs and start a pasture first? Actually, all of that sounds to me like a good argument for going worker first at City #2. With the copper mine he'll pop quickly, and we'll want to be roading lots in the near future to connect resources and cities.

Nobody has Buddhism yet, so we should land it. Not only that, if my understanding of the mechanics are correct, borders pop at end of turn, and since we should found in city #2, and are on quick, the 5 culture should be enough for an instant border pop! Awesome!

Agreed on all counts!

Moved the Settler and founded the city. With 5 resources in its BFC, and the expectations of it being the Holy Buddhist city, there's a highly appropriate name for it:

Maximum

After Ultra's main competitors smile

Moved Till and Philipp as outlined, put one turn of roading into the tile 1E of Maximum. Told Vakhtang to road the hill next to Ultra, then he (or the new Worker) can put a chop into the next Settler

Reduced science to 20%, to earn some money (Maximum costs 3gpt in maintenance) and still finish Buddhism this turn

Pressed Enter, and

Perfect!

MNG founded a city this turn, so Ranamar, MNG and we have 2 cities now

Yes, as much as I would love to pull a Krill, I'm far more interested in peaceful scouting than in T25 warfare.

Thanks for the advice, I've taken it! smile

Should you wish to discuss any deals, we would be very happy to do so

I may request OB soon, if that would be acceptable on your part.

Would you mind us asking if you have met other nations?

Actually, the timing is funny. I met Commodore half a turn before meeting you. In fact, I had just sent out a similarly short "well met" message to him when I opened the save and met your nation. Turns out it's a small world. smile Likewise, have you met anyone yet?

That's very good to hear! Would you mind signing a formal agreement to this effect? No Worker/Settler stealing until a certain date, say T50. If you would prefer a full NAP, we would be interested in that as well. We can include future OB agreement as part of the deal, if you'd like. I'm afraid we can't offer it to you right now, as we don't have Writing yet

Unfortunately, our brave explorer has fallen victim to a bear in the eastern forests. Our radio stations played mournful music to honour his memory and his efforts, but our scouting has been hampered since then, and we didn't meet anyone except your fine nation yet. As you're heading for the same forests, this also is a warning for you: watch out for the bear!

Would you mind including my trusted colleague Maestro (email) in diplomatic messages to our team? Both of us have the power to negotiate and sign treaties, although occasionally we will need to discuss matters between ourselves during negotiations. We're also available on GTalk, if you're interested in a chat

That message sounds fine to me. T50 is a good number; it protects our immediate expansions without tying us down forever.

I also noticed that the Ultra's border expansion revealed fish north of the desert hill. That's good - it means we'll be able to put a decent fishing village somewhere along the northern coast to fill in our dotmap.

Ranamar's team is holding the save for over 8 hours, they're usually much quicker. Assuming that they didn't forget to send it, I wonder if the news of Buddhism founding made them realise that we're going for Oracle, and they're rethinking their plans?
