I'm trying, novice, but it's hard! I just don't know how to start. My biggest lead right now is:

Change being used in the meaning of what you get after you pay for something with more money then the cost. So we could have silver and copper as synonims, which are metals.

Sound being used to mean whole/complete crossed my mind too.

But I don't know where to go after that...

Here are some hints, some of which have already been posted in the other thread.

Two revealed letters of the answer. This is not necessarily the most useful hint though, getting hints on how to deconstruct the clue are often more useful.

This hint discusses how to deconstruct the clue. It describes it generally, and the method described applies to many cryptic clues.

The clue contains a one-word straight definition of the answer. In addition, the clue contains one or more indicator words letting you know what kind of clue this is, and then the rest of the words are processed accordingly to produce the answer. For example, "sound" could indicate that parts of the clue are to be interpreted phonetically, but that is not the case here.

The next hint reveals which part of the clue is the straight definition of the answer.

"Metallic sound" contains "oscillate" backwards - it "holds back" "change". smile

Metallic sound holds indicate that the answer is contained inside metallic sound. The back indicates that it is backwards. Metallic Sound backwards is: DnuosCillatem.

Huh, ok. I was looking for something more along the lines of two definitions to get to the same word. Don't mind me, I'll keep on watching and maybe learn something about this puzzle style.
