A few things...

Mining is in. We have copper west of Renegade Hill.

Weezel apparently founded RoK already and adopted it on the same turn. It had to be a thane from a lair, because his score didn't rise enough for discovering a technology. (I can also confirm that it was founded in his capital.)

I exchanged a few messages with him, and did tell him that I'm located to his south.

The settler completed this turn. Several turns back, Lewwyn suggested settling the Oasis/Wheat site first. That may still be the best option, but several other sites are also tempting.

If it's any consolation, I think you managed the defense well enough that you would have been able to stop a non-mutated Urzoga.

I don't know if you've read the whole thread yet, but if you do, you'll see that my decision to target you was based completely on your location on the map. There were absolutely no other factors involved for why I went after you instead of, say, Weezel.

I do think you made two mistakes. First, by taking the hut, you allowed my archer to gain enough exp for the shock promotion. Obviously this is hindsight, but C1+shock was absolutely critical, and killing the scout was a cheap way for me to get it. Second, you failed to respond to(or maybe failed to receive) the message I sent you before I attacked. I would have been quite open to making some sort of deal for settling rights, as well as your unique resources and palace mana.

Overall, I do appreciate and respect your sportsmanship and attitude. FFH is a game that involves a lot of randomness, and I think you did better than many would have with the situation you were in.

Thanks, I responded to your offer with "From my cold, dead hands!" per e-mail
I must admit I wasn't thinking it would really come to that.

I read the whole thing and I saw your picture and I was surrounded by archers, it was the natural choise.
I hoped you would declare one turn later so I could push you, should have done that different, and I realy underestimated the time by when the clan can have archers at all.

Was a good learning experiance ^^

I didn't get that response until after I had razed your first city and sent another message. Did you receive the message I sent before I took Naggarond?

I should have had more faith in Ghorza, she completely wrecked that lion pride. Now hopefully a wolf is waiting near the hut...

So, it's time to figure out where our first city will go.

First, here's the terrain. The fogged tiles were identified based on other sections of the map. The archer I lost to the Hippus was at least good for that much.

The west:

The northeast:
I didn't include the south because the tundra sites I have available are inferior to the other options.

I've already sent the settler westward, and next turn he has to choose between 3 possible locations.

My preferences aren't strong on this, but I think I favor X over Y, but Z most of all.

Location X: This was Lewwyn's recommendation. It would immediately pick up the wheat and oasis tiles, for a food surplus of 7 at size 2(before aristocracy.) I can farm the tiles marked f3 and f5 for an even bigger food surplus, and the hills 1E and 1W of it would provide decent hammers. Eventually, the gold would provide some nice commerce, but it will probably be awhile before the borders expand and it comes online.

Location Y: This city is a hill(grass) plant, which could be nice for defensive reasons. Hopefully this area of the empire never comes under attack. The thing I like most about this site is that it can work 5 grass farms without any border expansions, which will be nice when we get to aristocracy. X is definitely better for hammers though.

Location Z: This site will probably be founded here regardless of whether we settle X/Y first or not. It would be founded primarily for the gold, both as a luxury and for the tile yield. Once we improve it, the gold will be a 0f/2h/8c tile, and the city could also work the dye from Braduk to free up a citizen there. I'd probably skip most infrastructure here, just put a temple of kilmorph in it and work a specialist or two. It's also a grass hill plant.

Forget it, I'm the one in charge here!

I proposed open borders with Weezel last turn. It will be awhile before we can get trade routes with him though.

He has less than 1/4 of my power rating, so there's no point in negotiating for OB sans benefits. I've never liked doing "fake" OB agreements anyway and there's no reason to bother with OB yet if I can't enter his territory.

Of course, I don't have any units ready to enter his territory, but he doesn't know that. I should also be able to scout him pretty thoroughly soon if I want to (with a lizardman+hawk.)

I decided to wait on site Z, and moved the settler and warrior both to site Y.

I probably won't settle next turn, but move to site X instead.

It was unavoidable, but Kwythellar shrank from size 4 to 3 this turn. Borders popped at end of turn so now we can work the corn farm.

I finally popped that hut near the Hippus with Lurbuk and got gold. Mysticism is due next turn, and Masonry won't take long after that.
