GM trade missions are indeed worthy, especially as AI has pretty big sized capitals, but it's risky. Ah, I get it now. Yeah, Drama's probably not worth it unless we get the free bard.
Quote:Good point regarding not building all the gates at once. We need to still expand, that's true - some of our cities don't have much to build right now so those could be working with settlers/workers. I think those food rich or/and hammer poor cities could work on workers, or even settlers. Settlers come out faster from hammer rich cities, though.
All a matter of balance. We're down to 12 workers/11 cities (with several settlers en route) and we're about to enter the jungle belt, so I think we could definitely use more workers. But also more buildings, and settlers, and some more warriors - even with 11 build queues, we've got much more we want to build than we can.
Quote:Also agree that grabbing Hunting would be nice, +1 happy and additional +1 with Hunting Lodge (not worth it in most cities). AH in my mind isn't that high priority, although we do have a lot of AH resources and the health could also help (but we don't need that just yet). AH is needed to make some of northern cities better.
AH isn't super important, but it's relatively cheap. I was mostly thinking about the north, yes.
Quote:Maybe BW -> Hunting -> AH -> Myst -> KotE?
That's pretty much what I was thinking.
Quote:EDIT: yeah, should be no trouble losing barb peace. Orcs have high score, but I think someone (Lanun) is way above us in score. If you look at top cities some civs already have capitals at size 12.
Well, Kurios are in the game, aren't they? So it's probably them.
Quote:Btw, any love for slavery? Could that speed our way to Gates? I haven't used that much in FFH so I have no idea how many pop you can sacrafice and what's the pop/hammer ratio?
It's the same as BtS, 30h/pop...except that granaries are less effective, more expensive, and later, so the food/hammer ratio tends to be worse. Oh, and buildings tend to be more expensive and therefore harder to find the pop to whip.
That said, all that nerfing just makes it not the One Right Choice. Slavery is still a pretty decent choice, especially for a civ who can't build units and therefore doesn't really care about boosts to XP or military production. We're still going to have food coming out our ears. I think I would wait until after KotE, but Philosophy is definitely worth putting on our 'someday' list of tech. Especially since it also is en route to Ashen Veil, another high priority item

Ok, hopefully I can play before this evening, but I've got a lot of work today...
I completely agree with BW->hunting next. I might push for Myst-KotE ahead of AH though. Gates take a long time to build, so getting started early will be good. I also think slavery will be great for us.

Lots of growing at home this round. Finished Bronze and have workers on hand to build sugar plantation next turn. Saving gold now. Next player can easily grab hunting or mysticism, maybe both.
Made contact with lanun, but lost our warrior doing it
I did a little micro at the capital, working the forest a couple turns and then chopping it to shave two turns off the brewery. I'd let a couple cities grow into unhappiness (generally doesn't hurt you at all unless they starve back down or are unhealthy), so used the happy immediately.
I also noticed that this city had more GP points stockpiled, so I added a bard and pushed to get the person out sooner. It meant a lower chance for a bard though, and we got the more likely GM. He's sleeping in the capital right now. I figure we want to use him on a GA, but wanted to check with the team and figured a couple turns of delay wouldn't hurt. our borders are close enough to Elohim we could safely do a mission if we wanted. Can't see Elohim capital, but would get 900 gold from Glens of Killybags. Could probably do a mission to dwarves if we wanted more.
Settled one city - had to go 1W of planned due to barbs. I think we push culture here and try to flip their city. Got another settler on his way to the pig spot. I actually like that spot as is since it grabs freshwater.
I think we should stretch to try to grab the wheat/copper spot; that may be our only chance to get bronze on our warriors, which could be huge if we get invaded in the next 50 turns.
Queued up some settlers for the north. No hammers into them, so Mardoc can build other stuff if you want.
Got another settler cooking for the pig spot down here.
Oh hey! I didn't even notice this guy hanging around down here, or I probably would have sent him off exploring.

I'm low on time tonight, and busy tomorrow and most of Sunday, so I played in a rush and won't be able to report to my usual standard. Brick, do a survey for please.
Researched Hunting, have enough gold for Myst but not KotE. Probably worth picking up Myst anyway, some cities are out of things to build.
Founded one city to the north, have the pigs city ready to found and a couple more settlers migrating northward. I like the idea of pushing for the copper then backfilling.

Could us watching at home have a big zoomed-out image?

That was a lie, too tired to trust myself to play tonight.
Two things:
1) we still have the GM, is there something we are waiting to fire him off for? I can't think of anything but I am unconfident enough on my GP in FFH knowledge to not wanna ask first.
2) our markets have actually given us like negative 41 beakers on cartography. I didn't know you could make negative progress it's never happened to me. is that an okay tech to continue putting in a hole to research out of later or should I do some damage control there?

Regarding #1 we should probably do a trade mission to Elohim's cap (or some othet city that gives most gold) or even Luchuirp's if there's not fog between their borders. Remember to get OBs with the Elohim if we don't have that already. Another possibility is GA but I think over 900 gold might be better (though during GA we would probably get our 2nd GP). If we could start building Gates during GA the bonus hammers would be helpful. Probably should hear what others think as well.
Answering #2 is a lot easier. We go negative because we have bunch of markets, but that doesn't matter if we put all those negative beakers into a junk tech we'll never research - Cartocraphy in this case.

I recall great merchants can enter foreign territory without open borders. Maybe they can even enter a city when you are at war. Maybe that cannot get killed.
