I don't see how any of this nonsense is defensible. Global Highlands was a terrible script to pick. You can generate roughly or at least vaguely fair random maps using Big & Small, or Tilted Axis, or Custom Continents, or a half-dozen other options, but not with this abysmal mockery of a script. Global Highlands is nigh-unplayable in single player, and that's with being able to complete a game over the course of a few evenings!
I defy anyone to look at Commodore's land here and claim that it's in any way comparable to Old Harry's. And if you say, "well, it's a random map, what did they expect", A: presumably that the map maker wouldn't decide to run with one of the worst scripts in the game, and B: if, after 100+ attempts, this shitfest was the best the generator could produce, they'd at least then switch to something more playable, it not suggest the players reconsider their settings.
This is supposed to be the big All-Star Vets game people have been talking about for years, right? You don't need a doctorate in psychology to conclude that, perhaps, the players didn't want to blow it on the most unbalanced pitboss map RB has seen in like 20 games.

Also, based on those suspiciously convenient 1-tile mountain islands giving REM access to Old Harry, this map actually was edited anyway, which only makes the whole situation worse!

Yeah, this will end in tears. Choosing global highlands was not a good idea.
There's already a lot of moaning going on in pindicator's thread and he doesn't have the worst of it from I've seen.
There's a case to be made to intervene now and end the game before it spirals out of control. But I'm not a regular here so it won't be me. Besides, I'm biased as I'm hoping for a new game to join.

It's a tough thing to decide if there should be any sort of lurker intervention. After all, I don't think a majority of teams have expressed major displeasure yet (though many of them don't know the whole picture either)

To be fair, I think pindicator was also unfortunate in that TBS city is bit of an over-reach? (which pindicator has not yet realized due to no map knowledge)

Wtf is this talk? Let it play out. Players play. Lurkers lurk. We who are not playing have no stake in this contest. If players express that they are not enjoying the game and it reaches critical mass then some sort of admin could step in but it is not for us to intervene until the players have clearly demonstrated the game is over.
They asked for some stupid map settings. Let this be a lesson for all future pregame setups. Pick a balanced fucking map and be done with it.

This is not a shot across the bow at Ceil. I think he put a good effort into the setup. But they wanted a natural map script and whatever it dumped out and that is what they got with some minor edits, again as requested. I'd hate this map as a player but it is what they requested so let it play out.

Well, the issue is not so much they, its that OT4E asked for it and the rest of them just wanted to play so they acquiesced. I agree they made there bed now have to lie in it but its a shame because this game looked so interesting in setups and as it turns out, quite sucks because of the map.
I mostly feel bad for the players who don't quite get what random, lightly-edited means in this case.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Not that I would ever again knowingly (or soberly) offer to make a map for a game Gaspar plays in, but if such a thing somehow were to come to pass I can suppose I would be only too pleased to put his singular source of copper under a lake so he'd be inclined to jump in it with great dispatch. If he so chooses, though, he need not find his present abstention from participation in an ongoing game to be sufficient reason to deny his person complete submersion into any body of water into which he deems his person would more or less fit. In fact, the unused map from PB24 has an ocean of tears well enough supplied with the provender of water, salt, and human misery as to comfortably embrace any such persons, such as our good Gaspar, who may find just enough cause (at least for our current purposes) as to fling themselves therein without delay.
