Mapmaking for Dummies [Mapmaking Thread] [Yes there are spoilers] [lurkers only]

Well, fun & casual mean different things to different people...

Also, wondering what the consensus is on how unspoiled chumchu's dedlurker would need to be? I feel for the guy and want him to find some support at least. With PB33 finished, this would be a decent level of commitment for me to take on - as long as the rest of the Lurkeratti thought it would be OK.

Either way, I'll stop reading threads for a while and see if someone properly unspoiled shows up to help him.

IMHO, I think if you wanted to go for it, go for it. I mean, it's a self-proclaimed casual game. If you've been reading his neighbors' threads closely, I'd say, just say up front that you can't say much regarding them for the next 10-15 turns or whatever, after which you'll feel OK to get fully involved.

and greenline, don't feel too bad about it. these guys signed up for a game that was advertized as casual, which IMHO sorta implies that whatever they get is fine with them.

Zulu have 5 cities, 2 workers (on the same tile!), no other workers in production, and yet - they're gearing up to attack another civ rather than consolidating their gains. I can't see a bright future for these guys. shakehead

I wouldn't blame Greenline, but that's more because he didn't get much feedback. And it's not like anyone else was stepping up. Just another instance where being a mapmaker is thankless and sets you up for abuse wink.

Plus, honestly, it's not imbalanced, just unexpected. The same old metagame approach doesn't work as well here, but it seems like the people suffering are those who didn't realize that, not people who just happen to be unluckily placed.

That said, I do disagree with this:

In my opinion, 'casual' means a game for those of us who aren't as skilled and prefer not to be fodder/speedbump in the way of the 'real' players who are the only ones who can win a headline game.

I don't think it's quite that bad. Their 'microplan' post has plans for (I think) four more workers in the near future. Granted, I haven't looked at their actual google doc plan, maybe 'near future' means 20 turns from now. I don't think it's as efficient as if they'd pump out the workers immediately, but they might have enough of a lead to be able to afford some inefficiency. Especially if Borsche had improved his cities before the capture.

On a different subject:

I don't know when I'll swap to Slavery... Probably not until after this thing with Nyles is settled.

...

EDIT: I guess I changed my mind to go for it because I'm doing a bit of a half measure -
I don't like this either, really. Pindicator might be able to take out Nyles' border copper city with a quick strike, but
a) Pindicator is comparing his force in 6 turns to Nyles' empire yesterday. Nyles will have a third city for sure, and it looks like it will be another copper city even. Even if it was just another city, Pindicator will need follow up if he wants to kill Nyles cheaply
b) if the quick strike doesn't work, then Pindi needs to have enough military built to induce Nyles to actually give him peace. Plans based around 'and then I'll get a convenient peace treaty' don't often seem to work out that way lol.
c) If the quick strike works but Pindi has bad RNG luck (quite possible with only 2 units) then he really doesn't want to pause to heal and give Nyles a chance to stack up some archers, let alone hook up his secondary copper!

I think Pindi might be right to attack here, he seems to have correctly spotted a temporary weak moment. But a half-hearted approach is always risky; it seems to me that his most likely result is to gain an advantage over Nyles and simultaneously gain a devoted enemy who can prevent him from using that advantage to snowball ahead of the rest of the pack.

My parting gift to my team should be build more workers. No reason to grow cities without worker support. But I was a bit lost on the spreadsheet and out of site image hosting.

We'll see how things go.

By the way, I thought gsorel was a smurf, but I guess I'm wrong. lol

Just my opinion, but the reload asked by DTG can't be given. That has nothing to do with me being gsorel dedlurker, but just from a general rule that a reload can't influence on another player so directly.

People make way more innocent mistakes than that and don't ask for reloads (I misclicked and razed a key strategic city in PB 27, for instance). If we give every reload asked for, this just creates an environment where the ones who ask get a very big advantage against the others.

I have read the threads and agree. I think for a simple misclick type incident then yes, but this is a move on purpose and then realising an error. I don't think there should be a reload, even though this will help the team starting to pull ahead.

Plus elkad has objections unless there is a replant there. I think this needs to be chalked up to tough luck...

It shouldn't be given, but it still has to be given because if gsorel razes DTG's capital then the game is straight-up over. People are already pissed off about them conquering two cities off of Borsche and one player already quit, so this will be the final nail in the coffin. So, what can you do?

This is the worst reason to grant a reload I've ever seen.

Could you perhaps impose some cost on them if they are to have a reload? Like perhaps worker to city, quecha to 1NE, all else as the picture? That way they cannot loose the city, and an archer comes next turn, but it penalises them a bit...
