i think Hitru hopped in, so you can double up on someone or global

How do I connect to the pitboss server? I edited my hosts file as in this thread and I can log into the Gamespy replacement, but I'm not seeing any games. So Caledorn's pitboss server is separate from that, I guess? But I can't find its IP anywhere.

Thanks! I've connected to the server, but the game crashes right after the Transferring Game Data step. I can catch a short glimpse of the game, and I see an ingame popup about this game being protected or something.

using steam, or different version of Civ. Loading Mod: RtR 2.0.8.3 before connecting?

I have a DVD release of the game, Civilization 3 + 4 Complete. I'm starting the BtS exe and then load the RtR 2.0.8.3 mod. I can start SP games with this mod loaded.
I'd get the GOG version of the game if that'll make it work. Or the Steam one if it's really necessary.

Interesting.. unless u didnt do the host thing right.. the only thing I know of that could work is run as admin? Someone else probably knows the right answer.

Running as admin makes it work! I don't like that solution, but at least I can start playing when the game is ready. If someone knows how to make it work with a normal user, please let me know.
