[Spoilers] Harry Hydra Tours his Hit Charitable Thoughts

Morale has been used for movement after landing in our games. This is a nice trick to pull on the unsuspecting.

Turn 91

The only morale attack I remember was Azza on Mardoc in PB18. That was revenge for his belief that Mardoc attacked him unreasonably and was pretty spectacular. http://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/showt...#pid499310

I had all sorts of plans in mind about moving units to enable the attack on Damogran, but then we discover that Donovan killed all our units, got a great general and attached it to an axe. We need to watch out for galleys and morale tricks ourselves now... How long will we keep Magrathea?

Down south we know that there will be several chariots and an axe in Damogran so rather than positioning to hit the city I think getting vision on it would be best - we'll retreat back to our gold city next turn.

Turn 92

Quiet turn - we killed a work boat. You can see a sign for a trireme that we last saw on turn 89. I don't know where it is now, but perhaps it's heading down to bother our southern coasts?

We're going to tech Maths (2 more turns - 2 ktb bonus) then Currency (maybe 5-8 turns - I'll check when we finish Maths) then Metal Casting (3 turns) so we can get naval supremacy (triple the number of cities!), then Iron Working so that we can finish Donovan off. To kill the cities with 40% and 60% culture we might need Machinery for CKN's. The alternative to Iron Working would be getting Monarchy and Code of Laws.

The good news is all Donovan's cities are coastal.
The bad news is that he's got ten turns to pop our nets before we can respond (zerging triremes with galleys isn't a great plan).
The good news is that he's got two size 2 cities and one size 1 city, so pumping enough galleys and units to bring the fight to us isn't a huge risk in the next ten turns.

Is anyone else close to circumnavigation? Maybe someone we haven't met got it already? If we're lucky we get it T97...

Turn 93

Donovan used his GG to give the axe Morale and... kill one chariot? Huh? Did he think that was a good use of his GG? Anyway, our axe will complete this turn - should probably have whipped it before. frown I'd say losing Magrathea next turn is about 50/50, depends how many units Donovan is willing to throw at it. At least that'll help the economy!

Demos and power. We're still somehow competitive on food, in spite of spending the last 20 turns warring (badly) while the competition hoovered up 'mids (Superjm), Colossus (Lewwyn?) and hurried to Alphabet (Krill, Cairo, Superdeath). GNP is suffering - after the turn rolled I had a look at Currency and we're 13 turns from it at break even (~20%). We can probably get it by t103 with some more development and perhaps some failgold, but we're going to settle two more cities in the next few turns, so that number could be much higher.

Lets hope Krill (1 turn from completing Maths) doesn't look at the graphs.

Turn 94

We'll be losing Magrathea next turn.

We make up for that with I'll Fly away.

In ten turns it's borders pop, it'll work fish and soon after the gold will boost our whole empire to new heights. The plains cow can wait. How to keep it safe from Donovan is the question...

Turn 95-7

Donovan lost his CR3 axe attacking at 90% odds, then I realise our spear gets odds vs this archer:

- Spear vs Archer - 74%... WIN! (down to 49HP though, so he gets deleted frown )
- Chariot Vs C1 chariot - 32% (7% withdraw)... FLAWLESS WIN!!!!!!

This is getting a bit embarrassing. I delete the units as even using auto-promote for some healing at the end of turn he'll have ~90% odds on the subsequent fights. And winning another one of those would just be unfair. Donovan seems to appreciate it because when I log in for turn 96 he's sent a peace offer. So no triremes scourging our coasts for the next ten turns. jive He walked back into Magrathea earlier in the turn and got a prophet for his shrine at the end of t96.

We settle a double-clam city to the south east - HomeOnTheRange.

It will have a couple of plains hills initially, then a bunch of workshops to provide naval production. I'm pondering a barracks as well. We can fit another city on the northern end of the island too eventually.

Krill acquired the barb city and got currency, so he and Superjm are giving us known tech bonus. We're still ten turns from landing the tech ourselves though. He also pointed out that the people of Free At Last are the most spiritual in all of China.

Finally we may have more neighbour trouble soon. I really don't want to squabble over the gold... We sent a cow-corn deal, partly because we both need those resources and partly because it'll mess with his mind. I'm fairly sure that Superdeath doesn't have any trade routes with us yet, which seams odd. Maybe settling this city will create them, or I'm reading the diplo screen wrong.

Turn 98

We found Lewwyn's sixth city, just to the north of Donovan. Looks like he might take advantage of our botched attack... frown

Here's a zoomed out world map - click to embiggen. We've met everyone but Gavagai now, so where do you guys think he is? We know he killed Elkad, and just before he died we bumped into an Elkad warrior just north of OT4E. I've circled our scouting boats - where should we send them next?

It looks like Superdeath didn't trust our generous cow/corn offer and ran his settler away. Perhaps he won't settle to steal our gold and we can be friends? We're definitely going to keep an eye on what his troops are up to due to past behaviour.

I offered Cairo and Superjm clam + fish for their stone. I doubt they'll accept, but maybe that's the start of a negotiation.

Demos and power. Krill is only 3 turns from Iron Working - see the icon on the scoreboard.

We got the circumnav bonus! jive 3-move boats are the best! Also Free At Last pops borders revealing some tasty clams that we probably won't be eating, one of Krill's cities became Hindu and Donovan built his shrine.

We're producing 22bpt, which will become 25 next turn, so at present we're on course to land Currency t109. That will improve by a turn or two when we build our shrine (worth at least 9gpt) on t103.

Here's your turn 100 blow out megareport. By which I mean you get an extra big map to look at (click to embiggen, open in a new window for zooming-purposes). I wish we knew where Gavagai was.

We can also do a handicap for the runners and riders.

Krill - Bismarck of the Portuguese Empire - 308 points
He's got a great capital, loads of land to expand to and already grabbed currency. He also seems to have Rusten contributing so he'll be keeping his interest up. I'm expecting him to load a bunch of swords onto galleys and try to take the 'Mids from Superjm some time soon. Unless he plans to wait for Carracks or we look like a more appetising target (scouting units will keep an eye on that). He's going to win unless...

Gavagai - Mao Zedong of the Incan Empire - 299 points
We haven't met Gavagai, but he ate Elkad very early, so he's got two capitals and plenty of room to expand. He's capable of leveraging that and should border Superdeath or Donovan for some further easy gains. Given how much he's posted we probably know as much as the lurkers do.

superjm - Saladin of the Roman Caliphate - 294 points
SPI/Pro Rome with the 'Mids? That's a pretty scary proposition, one that I'd have loved to have at this point. But that's only if Krill lets you keep your cities. If Portugal decide to eat us instead then Superjm should be in with a shout at the end of the game, having just founded Confucianism puts him in a great position.

OT4E - Tokugawa of the French Empire - 279 points
OT's had a quiet game so far, AGG starts to shine pretty soon though, so maybe he's about to do something? 10/1 to win.

Mr. Cairo - Julius Caesar of the Aztec Empire - 268 points
Another one having a quiet time, but the Aztecs shine once their courthouses come on line. Cairo tends to be cautious though, so I'm not expecting him to attack us (I have a reputation and we've got 3-mover boats, also we'll have a scouting work boat keeping an eye on him). However it looks like he's got so much land that he won't need to attack anyone to stay relevant.

OH - Isabella of the Chinese Empire - 263 points
Grumpily took our map anger out on Donovan, ruining his game and ours (we're struggling to limp to Currency, partly because of the unit maintenance and supply costs) without much to show for it. With an extra move on our boats and CKN's coming along soon we should be in a good position, but Krill and Superjm hit currency 15 turns earlier than us, and I'm still grumpy about the map, so I guess we'll just figure out who else's game we're going to ruin next.

Lewwyn - Qin Shi Huang of the Depression Isle - 234 points
With Colossus and a crippled neighbour Lewwyn should be in a great position but he's behind somehow. Scores are just beginning to relevant at this point, so why is he 60 points off the leaders?

Donovan Zoi - Willem van Oranje of the Arabian Empire - 231 points
Sorry Donovan. You aren't going to win. The Buddhist shrine should be good for someone though.

superdeath - Huayna Capac of the Wizards Of The Coast - 222 points
He crippled himself for the Great Lighthouse somehow. He needs to do some expanding, but it looks like he's planning to butt heads with us instead. rant

Elkad - Stalin of the Enchanted Forest - 0 points
Dead.

We settle Jimmy Mack.

This doesn't hurt our finances at all - mostly because of the costs of the settler and missionary being wiped out and working a 1/0/2 tile. I'm going to improve my Currency ETA to t106. smile We also get Sugar as soon as we tech Calendar. smile On the down side we now have three cities that are just waiting for a border pop to become productive (3, 7 and 10 turns respectively). coffee

Demos. We're dead last on soldiers. How do we do something about that without putting costs up? banghead
