Email to Alex
Quote:Hi Alex,
Well as expected my Internet building city was indeed nuked. So I will not be winning that race.
I did offer you Ecology in game, and also asked for incense for Hit Singles. It is your only incense, but with the addition of Hit Singles should be neutral for you, and I am unhappy in a few cities from a) loss of wine and sugar from Broker / Dreylin and b) the after-effects of TT fomenting unrest in Green Twp a few turns ago. If you'd rather not, I understand.
I also should have offered you Computers in game but think that I didn't. Feel free to request it. Us little guys have to stick together!
Militarily, I have been providing some support to Elkad and as my NAPs with Dreylin and Munro run out on T235, I will be available to do some work there. How goes things on your side? Have you been able to make much progress vs. Munro or has your way been stopped by nukes? Remember that Munro can't nuke units in his own land (though potentially he could have Dreylin or Broker nuke his land)
Also, I have put a few of my mini stacks near your lands. I am trying to keep my stacks separated and at least 3 tiles apart, to minimize the odds they'll get nuked. If you'd prefer I can back them off your border - let me know.
Talk to you soon!

Email to Dreylin
Quote:So.... interesting times, huh? In reviewing your email, I realized that I was still supplying you with coal (a strategic resource), so I had to cancel that deal. I'd still be interested in sugar (or wine or incense) if you want.
But on kind of a more global scale, we are coming to kind of a crossroads, and it might be worth re-evaluating where you stand. Obviously you and Broker have a lot of history together, and I don't know what kind of current deals you have, and I certainly wouldn't advocate breaking any deals, you kind of have to ask yourself if this is where you want to be?
Although the impression that I've gotten from you has been one that is somewhat against nuclear activity, your name is being tarred with the same "axis of evil" brush, by association.
Okay maybe your other current partner Munro's nuking of a potentially hostile invading force can be justified, but what Broker did was just uncalled for. It wasn't unexpected, but that doesn't make it right.
I have been very surprised and disappointed by Broker's possessive reaction to the various wonders in this game. From the Oracle, to the Statue, and Cristo, and now the Internet.
If sunrise started acting like Broker has been, I would take a pretty deep look to make sure that's the kind of guy that I wanted to be involved with.
I was saying the same thing to Twinkletoes yesterday. He keeps telling me that he is a peaceful guy, and even tried to ban nukes. So I was asking him why he was continuing to make deals with Broker, who is advocating, supporting (and now DOING) the very things that he (TT) is against? His response was somewhere along the lines of being afraid of the nukes. But to me that's just giving into a bully, which is the exact opposite of what you "should" do.
Now obviously your situations are not exactly the same, but still. If those of us that wish to play a conventional Civ game stood up to the bullies, we could stop them. All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing (err something like that <g>).
I understand that Elkad has attacked you, but he attacked Broker first, and I bet we could convince him to manouver his attack thataway. There's some logistics involved but I bet it could get done. You probably wouldn't even need to attack Broker or break any deals you might have - we could figure out something. And isn't that where you want to be anyways? Even setting aside all this, from a game perspective, don't you want to be where other folks are fighting and you sit back and build? I'm sure you aren't relishing putting in the time investment to fight a war with Elkad every day for the next few weeks...
Anyways those are my thoughts. As always, time is of the essence....

Reply back to the reply from Dreylin. Formatting is weird but it's a paragarph from him, then one from me, etc. etc.
Quote:Dreylin,
On the other hand, it has been your choice not to pursue your own nuclear deterrent for this long, and thus allowed your opponents free-reign with no MAD to keep them in check....
Yes that does appear to be the party line, and there may indeed be some truth to that. On the other hand, it's a bit hard to keep up when you have 2-3 researchers vs. just me.... :-)
I looked at the power graph last turn; really quite scary for those of us not currently allied with yourself and Alex. Are you offering to give up your massive army if we give up our Nukes?
If you recall, I was one of the ones who was hoping for a peaceful end to this game, so I think you'd find me closer to agreeing with that offer than not...
I may not completely agree with some of Broker's attitudes towards some of the Wonders, but recall that it was me rather than him who was possessive of the Statue ... even if I later realised there was no chance for me personally to win it. With the power of The Internet on this map, with this number of players, can you blame our alliance for doing everything in our power to prevent it being built by an opposing side?
I guess. Though I'm actually cooling on the power of the Internet. It's powerful to be sure, but not quite as uber as I was thinking it was initially. Or maybe I'm just deluding and comforting myself after missing out on it :-D
I have cancelled the Spices & Sugar trades, as you no doubt expected.
In your last email, you talked about being able to trade non-strategic resources. Are you still interested in that? Do I have anything that you need?

Oh what's the point. I've kind of lost desire to play this game. It was T235 last turn (for some reason I was thinking it was T234 and I still had one more turn before my NAPs with Dreylin and Munro ran out).
So I saw this morning that apparently I was nuked last night at least 4 times.
Yaaayyyyyyy.......
I'd guess Green Township, Cincinnati, Forest Park (NP city) and one other.
Really makes it fun to play....
And I feel like I've been trying to engineer a diplo shakeup but nothing is working. So I'm kind of mailing in my turns and given up on winning.....
PS, that last part may or may not be true

I say deny the UN vote, build lots of nukes, nothing but nukes, all the time, and just keep nuking people. If you have given up on winning at least make everyone else suffer .

I was 3/3 on my nuke guesses. 4th nuke went to Norwood and leveled a ton of towns. Yay.....
Lost my barracks and Heroic Epic at Green Twp. Luckily my NP and NE in Forest Park survived, though I lost 5 forest preserves (yay.....)

I know these aren't exciting updates for everyone. And I apologize that my updates have been lacking.
It's just real hard to get into the mood of writing a good recap like this...
