Also, we can stop with the "maybe being lied to" stuff:
Quote:Dear Sullla,
Caught me....
We were really of two minds about how to deal with this conflict.
In the end we decided to side with the bigger party.
Expect our declaration at t106.
Although I don't think our little army can do much in the upcoming struggle.
Good luck!
Nakor of HRE
So even though Nakor himself doesn't think his army can do much, he's still going to attack us. And he had no problem with lying to us for close to a month, as we shared all of our plans with him. Seriously, not cool. That's pretty low.
We're also not the only ones who thinks this is all insanity:
Quote:Dear Speaker and Sullla,
That is quite a dogpile. I don't understand how Nakor benefits from joining. Maybe there are further deals like decimating us. They have on several occasions hinted us being threatened by Whosit, but if they've meaningful stack of troops to send towards you that can't be true.
I'll probably contact Whosit next to see, if we could find a common path.
Best regards,
plako
Notice how plako immediately points out that Nakor's moves make no sense. It's a shame that these guys got leveled earlier...
I guess we can use this delay to try and sort out our diplomatic situation, but I'm not really sure where we go. You know, since some 60% of the planet is at war with us, and the remaining 40% is too far away to have any real effect on the fighting.
We can lean on Kathlete and Jowy next turn for peace once we level their stack, who knows if that will work though.
Do we try to get Nakor to switch sides again, Speaker? I can't really stomach working with him at this point, but we have to do anything possible to get other teams to drop out of this mega-alliance. I would honestly like to know what he's getting out of this deal, and how that justifies lying to us for such an extended period of time.
Finally, I'd also like to echo Speaker that we really don't want to hear any more of the "oh, they had to gang up on you, since you are good players" comments. Really? It's really in Kathlete's interest to send his army around the world right now? It's really in Nakor's interest to do the same? It's really in Jowy's interest to whip his core cities, over and over again, to produce unpromoted phalanxes rather than expand out to ~10 cities and tech upwards? It's really in Dantski's interest to build monument/granary/barracks in each city and then stick them on endless axemen, making no attempt to add cottages, libraries, or lighthouses?
The goal is to win the game, not just prevent other teams from winning.
Or, let me put this another way. A couple of you may know that Sirian was one of the world's greatest Descent players back in the day. Suppose that Sirian was engaged in some kind of free-for-all Descent tournament. Knowing Sirian's reputation, half of the players in the game decide that they'll make no attempt to grab weapons or armor upgrades - they'll simply follow Sirian constantly and kill him over and over again, in a constant 3 or 4 vs 1. All of these players are essentially giving up any chance at winning, purely for the sake of taking down a big name opponent.
Now you can maybe argue that this is good metagaming, since Sirian is the best player out of this game, but why should Sirian play the game at all under these conditions? Oh sure, it's challenging, and it might be interesting for observers to watch. But does that honestly make for a good game?
Whatever.
