[Spoilers] Yaz of Persia

Thanks for the narrative, very interesting.

Quote:I'm also now at 26/60 towards my next GG. I'd be interested in building walls & greatwall before darrell's arrival I think. Not 100% on great wall though.

That would be the Great Wall just for the GG points? Since it's pretty easy to spawnbust barbs on an archipelago. Note that the Great Wall doesn't help against barb galleys, since it says "on this continent" which by definition boats aren't.

Yeah for the GG points. Only a matter of time before Darrell ferries over his army and considering he'll probably be teching faster than me, my traits generating xp and GGs are probably my only hope as I see it.

Chat with America Wrote:Darrell: nice GG
Yaz: thanks
Darrell: morale should come in handy I guess
Yaz: Might be handy if I have to retake any cities from you later I'm thinking
Darrell: yeah could be
Darrell: I assume you still aren't willing to make peace with ruff?
Darrell: saw you made peace with SL...
Yaz: I don't see how I could make peace with him considering he's proven he's willing to break agreements when it suits his need. Why wait for him to stab me in the back again and again? I'm certainly not a good player but I'm not that stupid as to set myself up.
Darrell: you could have fooled me about being a good player...you certainly outmaneuvered me and looks like you are doing the same to him
Yaz: er no, I royally screwed up attack on you haha
Darrell: well the landing yeah, but after that you really used that immortal well
Yaz: Plus it was just a whim because you sent me that screenshot showing you had no roads
Darrell: hah-hah...yeah that was pretty stupid of me in hindsight smile
Darrell: still don't have much MP experience
Darrell: should have gotten a nap first or something
Yaz: Yeah I was a bit confused. You start negotiating tough for island then show me screenshot you're defenseless
Darrell: I sent that screenshot just to show where the island was...didnt really think about the lack of roads being a dead giveaway
Yaz: Then I made the cirtical mistake of wanting to talk to somebody about it and choosing ruff
Yaz: Yeah was surprised you included any of your own territory let alone everything around your capital
Darrell: I was in a hurry had to go somewhere and didn't crop it frown
Yaz: :P
Yaz: Always the little things
Darrell: Yup
Darrell: if it makes you feel any better my capital is still under whip anger, and is still two turns from finally getting a granary :P
Darrell: you slowed me down big time with just 4 troops
Darrell: Id probably be at 8 cities with good infrastructure by now otherwise.
Yaz: Well at least th's something. Maybe it'll buy the time to finish Ruff which is my goal. Don't like dishonest players, especially when they've hit me with it several times.
Yaz: As with SL I'd have no problem making peace with you but I can't make peace with somebody I can't trust and has proven their not worthy of it.
Darrell: Okay...well I will keep that in mind, good to know there still might be a future
Yaz: hehe well there's a future for you unless Krill decides the islands aren't enough. Really only mine and Ruff's future are at stake I think. Though you may fall behind by pursuing the war but that's for you to add up I guess.
Yaz: I won't be sending troops at you any more for forseeable future.
Darrell: Im on infra rigth now, I can honestly say I don't have a single unit queue except a settler and a missionary
Darrell: but I do have some units lying around as you know, not sure yet what their best use is
Yaz: So you're troops are already on the boats heading my way eh? :P
Darrell: Im fairly certain I can't do any real damage to you, but I could probably harass you like what you did to me
Yaz: I've officially declared I'm playing Paranoid Persia this game haha
Darrell: My troops are still in my borders, but yeah...some are in boats I will admit. Some.
Darrell: liek I said, still not sure their best use yet.
Yaz: Yeah, sucks having units around after a war
Yaz: What you need is for somebody to send you a screenshot with a nice target
Darrell: hah-hah...yeah, that's true
Darrell: especially if they have a warrior guarding the best wonder in the game :P
Yaz: :D
Darrell: i cant recall could you even seen the units I had?
Darrell: although archers die to immortals pretty bad
Yaz: No but knowing your tech path from research trades and that you didn't have roads I was fairly certain you couldn't build anything else
Yaz: I could also see the resources you had
Yaz: So knew you didn't have copper or horse units and you were unlikely to have gotten archery
Darrell: yeah
Darrell: I had horse pastured but not roaded.
Yaz: It was a gamble, but payoff could have been large.
Darrell: I got the road basically the turn after you landed, if memory serves
Yaz: Also thought I had the support of SL like I said before bleh
Darrell: I haven't confronted him yet, figured you told me that in semi-confidence
Darrell: but I will definitely be keeping an eye out
Darrell: he's got elephants now frown
Yaz: yikes
Yaz: Not any on our island frown
Darrell: lacks HBR and construction at least
Darrell: nor on ours
Yaz: Thank goodness
Darrell: should have asked t-hawk to remove them
Yaz: Dreylin must not be pleased about that.
Darrell: oh yeah
Darrell: he's gone all for regular techs no military at all
Yaz: Plus puts damper on his UU. He's Byz with Cataphracts right?
Darrell: yeah
Darrell: cataphracts are so good though that equally promoted they beat elephants even
Darrell: but yeah, the hammer delta really puts the crimp on him
Yaz: Well he's certainly been setting himself up nice not having to do any actuall fighting himself. Same as Krill, just getting to negotiate for things without doing anything.
Darrell: yeah krill has caught me in city count, has gems up, 3 wonders, etc.
Darrell: not pretty
Yaz: Yeah. Only reason he wasn't growing faster was because of the wonders no doubt
Yaz: Probably see big growth spurt
Darrell: yup, and now hes got those down and will grow like crazy
Yaz: great minds think alike :P

So nice chat with Darrell. Don't really trust that he's not moving men to attack me but still cordial between us. Big revelation though is the elephants. HBR is already out in the field and he has trade setup for it. Darrell is 4 turns away from math (I can see his research) so construction isn't too far off. Wouldn't surprise me if he held his attack off for catapults. Wouldn't surprise me if elephants are traded to Ruff for him to build elephants from his island.

I really need to hurry and take Ruff out. I'll be happy if I accomplish that before this storm hits me.

It's going to be interesting seeing what SL has to say considering for the first time in a week or two he's been online in chat now for hours. Coincidently so are Ruff and Darrell. Wondering if they're discussing what SL should reply since he didn't want to respond in chat back then when Ruff was away.

Mail from Native Americans Wrote:Greetings Persia,

As promised I am replying before playing the next turn.

As you stated in your previous message - I did give a little bit of information regarding the state of the American nation's techs prior to your war and did show an interest in America being attacked. I cannot deny this and I plan to out myself to America shortly on this matter. I think now that this was an error on my part.

My decision to help America after your declaration was based on some level headed thinking of who has helped and who could possibly help in the future, the Native American people. America has been very forthcoming on the trading front and I realised quickly that the right decision, for me, was to help them out. I did do that knowing that you could cut the trade instantly by declaring war on me which of course you did. At that stage that was all Native America had planned for interference however, with the declaration on Japan, Native America felt that it could have been the next target and so stepped in and in the meantime - it could secure an ally.

I have made my bed and will sleep in it. For now at least - I am on Japans side.

Cheers,
Sitting Bull of the Native Americans

Ps: On a more personal note - Please don't take this personally or anything, it is a game and I am having to role play a little here. I just feel like if I don't choose one way or the other I'll get nowhere so I have made my decision. I wish you all the best in this game and hopefully we can have some fun!

So he confirms his alliance with Japan against me which basically confirms the Amercia-Japan-Native America triangle.

Another turn played.

Looks like i'm not the only one that can get a bit lucky in the rolls hehe. Ruff attacks out with his chariot and managed to kill my immortal at ~25% odds. Worth the gamble maybe. I really don't understand why he attacked my galleys with his though. His was blocking my route and would have had to attack it and probably lose one doing so but instead he attacked mine and lost. Seems like a bit of a mistake.

Anyways I promoted my spear that found last round to Combat 1 Medic 1 so it and the CR3 axe can heal. Other spear moved up to them. As predicted he whipped another archer there. Bunch of axes en route as well as a couple immortals as of next turn which should arrive about the same time as the axes.

Not looking good. His archer spam I think can hold me off unless I get lucky on some more rolls of the dice. Darrell will have construction done in 4 so then I'll be facing WEs and catapults meaning I'm screwed. Oh well, not surprising. Hopefully Ruff will be too far behind to catch up in this game at least. frown

Officially declaring Ruff has defended the attack. There's no way for me to punch threw those archers now. I got rid of the spear thinking that would give me a chance to get some immortals down there fast and maybe stand a chance against archer spam by out producing him but I simply can't get enough units there fast enough. Now that his archers are well and truly fortified and recovered there's no chance and there's no point leaving my stack exposed until he gets catapults and elephants or SL makes a drop there to help him wipe it. So I moved north, next turn will pillage a cottage and farm of his and then move back home. I'll resettle center city on the hill this time. Also go for city down south on hill and maybe try for pyramids with my stone. I'm not really expecting to get pyramids but I'd be happy with the money right now as well because I'm broke and will need to try to research construction immediately.

Played turn this morning:

- Three galleys show up from Darrell along my western coast. Can only assume they are full of troops. Not a whole lot of troops at my home cities atm. Move immortal and spear onto forest that he could drop on.
- 2xImmortal and GG axe start running back home. Other troops will be longer and will take time to raze those improvements of Ruff's
- Obviously won't bother going for pyramids but will build some walls and more troops.

Chat with America Wrote:Darrell: grumble
Darrell: nice read on the boat target
Yaz: hehe lucky guess I guess smile
Darrell: I doubt it...you've been thinking better than me this game
Yaz: Well there weren't too many optimal spots to land.
Darrell: I was hoping you'd think I was going for you capital
Yaz: You did catch me with my pants down though.
Darrell: I swear if I find out later its guarded by 3 workers I'm going to puke wink
Yaz: You can see my capital can't you? You've got other boats nearby
Darrell: I wasn't lying earlier BTW, I didn't build any new units, just the leftovers from defense
Darrell: hmm
Darrell: one would think I checked
Darrell: let me look
Darrell: good grief
Darrell: one spear
Yaz: One would think you could have moved them to see :P
Darrell: I think I coul dhave done that from the boat
Darrell: hmm...but I didn't reach this turn
Darrell: and likely you can reinforce
Yaz: No you couldn't
Darrell: although those units on the forest couldn't get back in time coudl they?
Darrell: well yeah
Darrell: the immortal could I guess
Darrell: oh well...the die is alreayd cast as they say
Yaz: So what did you land on my shores? smile
Darrell: nothing, I couldn't due to your well position troopos
Darrell: I did not have odds even with an axe
Yaz: Well you could have landed elsewhere.
Darrell: yeah, but I fear being shredded
Yaz: haha
Yaz: Well maybe better luck when the catapults and war elephants arive.
Darrell: that would certain help me out, wouldn't it?
Yaz: I would think so
Yaz: Wish I'd bothered to build my walls earlier
Darrell: did ruff build walls?
Darrell: he's pro so they should be cheap
Yaz: nah just the archer promotions saved him due to his traits.
Yaz: Them plus being fortified for few turns was too much. Figured if I killed of the spear I could get immortals down there faster to stand a chance but couldn't do it.
Yaz: Lost too much taking out the damn spear but no chance with it there.
Darrell: once you flip from just a bit stronger to just a bit weaker, you lose a ton of % points on winning
Yaz: Yeah
Darrell: yeah, that's true
Yaz: my gg axe had 56% odds I think when it was 2 turns away. When it got there it had ~25%
Yaz: just due to fortify % increasing
Darrell: wow
Darrell: silly game mechanic really
Yaz: annoying at least smile Unless it saves me later hehe
Darrell: yeah...your going to be a tough nut to crack frown
Darrell: got to go put my kids to bed...should be some interesting turns ahead...as always good luck but not *too* good wink
Yaz: haha same to you smile
Yaz: cya

I guess only thing to be gleaned from this is that he does have an axeman.
