I have a proposal for first city site...
Immediate food resource? Check.
Immediate access to commerce via lake? Check.
Immediate access to happiness resource? Check.
Quick access to mega economic boost? Check.
This city should power our economy for our first 3 settlers, easily, between the gold and easy access to three riverside grassland cottages. Plus, it won't be a sloucher in the production department either.
How about for the near term... northern city works on economy, red dot works on production needs, and blue dot works on generating us a quick GS thanks to its (relatively) massive food surplus...
I'm excited to see the rest of the north dot BFC, and even more excited to get it founded.

For sure our first city site. Either on the hill or 1S I'd say, although even now I am leaning towards on the hill even without seeing the tiles we give up by 1S.

Wow, you must be really happy to use an elephant. I must admit that 1S of the hill would have better commerce potential, but for right now I would still stick with the hill. That all could change in a couple of turns but this is most definitely the area of the first city... I'm glad we are both resolved on that issue.

How do you feel about settling on strategic resources? I can't help but think that copper must be on North Dot Hill. If it is, would you push for us to settle 1S, or push for us to settle on the hill?

I seriously doubt copper would be on North Dot Hill. Having Gold, Silver, Copper and a grass-river-rice in one BFC would be ridiculous. My gut says it is either to the SE or S, in which case we will know well before the settler is complete.

T25 played. Not much new. William is still healing from his lion bite. On the interturn, Jordan was hit by a wolf so I have her healing for a couple turns. So the only movement this turn was Karen moving onto North Hill dot. There is another riverside grass sheep 2NW of it. The terrain up there looks great.... I think I even saw a tree with no snow cover on it!

So we finally see the full BFC of North Hill Dot:
I count 5 grassland tiles (4 riverside) plus the gold plus the silver, this has tremendous commerce potential. The local hills give the city flexibility to focus on production when needed, and we could easily farm the non-riverside grassland tile to enable that flexibility. At size 7 the city will work four cottages, gold, silver, and rice. What a great city!
In warrior news, I would like to send Jordan SW to clear up the remaining patch of fog before heading home. William should head generally eastbound for 5 or 6 turns before also heading home. And I would like to have Karen spend 4-5 turns getting a bigger picture of the north before sitting on North Hill in preparation for the settler.
BW comes in in 2, as does Warren, and then he and Bill can start the chopping projects. Things continue to move along pretty smoothly...

Sounds good with the exploring. I'd like to see that area around that Northern sheep as a potential 5th city.

We have contact!
Karen met up with the Ottoman Conan the Barbarian while researching the north. I sent a generic greeting e-mail.
Time to get ready for work!

So they are creative and organized, have a Musketman UU, an Aqueduct UB and start with wheel and agriculture. They also have the highest score in the game so far, although I suspect cultural is helping with that.
By the way, I'd be tempted to move 1W with Karen even after he gets attacked. That tile should provide quite a good deal of visibility.
