Nobody expects the Chinese Inquisition: Isabella of China

Mardoc Wrote:Seems reasonable to me. After that, though - it might be a good time to go for Iron Working and start settling the jungle. If we can chop jungle, that's pretty good land.

The band of desert with hills all around is an interesting formation - seems intended as a killing ground. If we have to, that'd be a good place to build a bottleneck city, but I'd rather leapfrog it if we can, since a city in the obvious bottleneck location looks really poor as a city.

Any chance of hooking up those horses and building a scouting chariot or two? Or would that slow the REX too much?

Yeah - IW has to be a priority. I'd like a little feedback on the tech path as a whole. Mysticism has to be next I think - it gets really annoying when you're settling based on not getting the whole BFC. I hate monuments as much as the next guy but in a few key cities before the Artist option is online would be pretty crucial. Maybe we do IW before Writing. Thing is, also need Calendar for a lot of that to be really useful. But Myst -> Sailing is pretty key I think. Afterwards we can debate things like Masonry for the stone/Mids and IW. I really don't like to mess around too much before hitting Currency, however. Especially at the rate we're settling - the economy is going to crash soon, those TRs will be a big help. Particularly if we settle the Stone Island, that'll be +3 in every city.

Horses will be hooked in 5T (3T for pasture + 2T for road.) Definitely aim to get a chariot or two out once they're up.

Next turn came in. Not much has happened. Mysticism ended up a 1T tech as we switched to working the lake in Agria Dulce after the chop came in leaving it with no hammer tiles. IW would be a 6T tech @100%, for what its worth. Probably a total of 8T. Still think Sailing next is the right call - for one, Agria Dulce is pretty worthless without a Lighthouse and for two, getting a city on that island will be good for both the economy and our wonder options. Not going to, but it would be pretty funny to steal 'Henge from Commodore with a few well timed chops. lol

Quote:Hi Gaspar(or Isabela),

We met on pbem 24, my chariot its near an very undefended worker. I was thinking to declare and take that worker, but this its not Pericle stile, more like Kublay khan.
I have a funny ideea, i dont know if you'll agree:
- we singn a Nap, which its last until one of us destroy the other oponent on his side.So if i finish firts my oponent if i want i can declare war on you , but you cant, if you finish him first you can declare and i cant.If any of us declare war after finishing the other oponent the Nap its void.

What you think about that?

I will not play the turn until i got an answer to this if you dont agree i am sure we can find something else..

regards,
Mackoti

Erm. Guys? Could really use some input here.

I don't want to lose a worker, and honestly with luck a Chariot could probably take down the whole empire right now. I also don't love the idea of a NAP of indeterminate length with mackoti, though. He's most likely to be the primary competition. Still, I could take the deal and then use it to settle in his face, since we're NAP'ed til Kingdom Come. Anyone awake and reading?

Um. It would be very useful to know if we're managing to outexpand him or not. Any way of knowing while he holds the turn?

If we're doing peace better than he is, I'd be fine with signing that deal. If he's ahead, then it'd be foolish.

Well, his score lead is CRE land points. I'd gather we're both in front right now on expansion, but I don't really know. Mackoti is a MP player so he's surely better defended than I.

It would have a dramatic meta-bonus - no game dying of boredom ala PBEM 14 lol

I sent mackoti this:

Quote:Hey Mackoti,

Well played. I sort of figured the jungle and only 4 players bought me a bit more time before I had to start covering my workers. I appreciate you finding your inner-Pericles rather than your inner Kublai Khan. smile

Anyway, on the face of it sounds like your idea could be fun. I'd like to run it by my dedlurker before making a decision though, so I'll get back to you in 8 hours or so after I chat with him.

Regards,
Gaspar

Mostly just stalling since I'm pretty sure I don't have a real choice but to make the deal. I wonder if he knows the geography already - meaning maybe he knows he has TT on his side (the easier mark, I think we'd agree.) I do like the idea of a fun mini-game though and while no doubt mackoti is a stronger player than I am, I think I could at least hold my own against him in this situation. Main concern is either a: him getting way ahead in the interim or b: him stomping his opposite number while I struggle with the same.

Signing a long early NAP with your strongest rival is so lame. wink
I have to run.

Hmm...arguing by analogy, we're on the nospace end of the deal, not the Ruff end lol. Clearly that makes this a good idea.

Pay no attention to any differences between the two situations and sign smile.

lol I think I might have thought so at the time you did it. Pretty sure I won't be able to jump out to that kind of lead here. For one, I'm not as good as you. For two, I think mackoti's better than Ruff (no offense, Ruff.)

For me it would be a no-brainer if I knew who my other neighbor was. If its TT, I'd sign immediately as I feel confident in Commodore giving mackoti a hard time. If its Commodore, I feel confident in Commodore being able to give me a hard time. Also, mackoti is the least stable party to ally in this group - I'd be far more likely to feel comfortable with my ability to lead the line against TT or Commodore in an alliance. Mackoti however dances to the beat of his own different drummer.

Of course, losing a worker isn't the end of the world and I can hook copper and have spears before he can take any cities. But declining the deal is pretty much tantamount to going in war mode immediately. I much prefer to continue the Big Stupid Farmer's Gambit® as long as possible.

What is it about me that keeps landing in games with completely screwy diplomacy? lol
