Fire Emblem 6 - Race #2

Chapter 10A:

First chapter of the A route. There's only one way to go and one village to visit.

My first test attempt got it done in 7 turns, except on turn 5 I saw the Geese spawn and knew I had to redo everything.

According to my calculations 6 turns was possible while still recruiting Geese with a mighty rescue chain. Except I was one tile off! There was something I could do to fix it. I could promote Treck right now at level 10 to bridge the gap.

Okay, that's fair, I have make up turns in this race. That said.. Rather than sacrificing our powerhouse pick, we're going to sacrifice our last pick and even gain a second turn out of it. In other words, we're skipping the Geese.

That's karma for ya, shouldn't have gone south when I was waiting north, shouldn't have gone north when I was waiting south. You bastard.

Marcus, Treck and Dieck will kill an axe a piece. Zealot hurts one of the swords.
The axes aren't much of a threat with their low hit rate, which is why I chose to attack the sword despite not being able to kill it.
He will now spend two turns healing up, effectively removing him from the battle until then.

This is the special unit we could have killed instead. We'll kill it with a counter.
It's an interesting contrast: In our no-death run, we were scared to hell of anything that could "get lucky" and kill us. With this format, the enemies that wither us down by always connecting their hits are the real threat.

[Image: Pe2lWtR.png] [Image: tLdOF1D.png]

Treck leveled up btw. Speed is nice. He doesn't double very often.
We end the turn like so.

Zealot gains a health point and is quickly approaching Marcus status frown

Shin is fairly hurt. He was hit by a sword, a bow, and the ballista. He will retreat and heal up.
Other than that, we need to clear the way for Marcus and Zealot, as well as move Roy up the max movement allowance.

[Image: 2w7TOzu.png] [Image: HArafyT.png]

Lilina kills one blocker and levels up. She also needs SPEED but doesn't get it.
Roy kills the archer, which will allow Dieck to attack the swordsman.

Treck killed the other blocker. The bridge is now clear.
Marcus will have to sacrifice some silver lance charges to kill the archer, then Zealot can go full speed ahead and park himself next to the big guy.
Zealot then killed a hand-axe enemy, not the big guy. Ranged units can be annoying as they'll block paths and you can't counter-kill them without equipping a weak ranged weapon.

Chad leveled up after killing an axe previously weakened by a Lilina counter.
Somehow he continues to be useful in his own way. Every little bit helps.

This is how we ended the turn. Merlinus sacrifices himself for no gain whatsoever. Let's say it's tradition.

[Image: SilScCg.png] [Image: oWvsUNj.png]

We needed to kill the axeman to clear the way, but also not block Roy's square next to Marcus. Problematic!
What I did was trade Dieck's Light's Brand to Roy. Roy could then kill the axeman himself. This weapon switch proved critical later on..

With the way clear, Marcus rescued Roy, then Zealot moved next to them, took Roy, used a vulnerary, and moved up one more square, now in range of Roy drop-zone.

[Image: M99i8ha.png] [Image: vv5qwvq.png]

Treck took a potshot at the big guy. He leveled up countering someone else.
1 speed is better than 1 anything else, so not too unhappy about that.

Zealot killed the weakened big buy with a counter. The shaman went after Treck.

[Image: mEBYIi2.png] [Image: DKJhCxj.png]

Here we tricked the enemy AI. Zealot and Roy (thank you Light's Brand!) equipped ranged weapons, Marcus equipped a melee weapon.
This way the enemy will attack Marcus and won't block our path to the castle.

[Image: vwtYeDx.png] [Image: szZOkOz.png]

Treck went to grab a Swordreaver (an axe that is strong against swords) from the village. Probably won't ever use it, but we can sell it if nothing else.
Dieck leveled up after countering. Good level up. I should probably promote him soon. I had a free turn to do so next turn, but I'm greedy and didn't.

[Image: 3QvaWZv.png] [Image: sTYOVy4.png]

Marcus critted the boss so Zealot wasn't even needed this time. There were many different combos that could get the work done. The most likely being two silver lance attacks and 1 of 2 javelin hits connecting.
The boss' last words were as boring as the entire story this chapter. Marcus had a very Marcus level up.

[Image: sfl8fEN.png] [Image: eLZGPq9.png]

Lilina grabs one last level up before we seize the gate. Treck arrives at the village.

5 turns! That is the lowest you can go, I guarantee it.
Only two enemies were left standing. The ballista operator and a random pirate off the west coast.

[Image: 7OuSy1e.png] [Image: hTgFL01.png]

We freed a handsy woman from jail. Roy succumbed to her ways.

Oh yea we got this sword. It's not legendary or anything. Something tells me that next map will have wyverns.

Managed to get some time to test out 10A. Report tomorrow maybe.
Managed a 7-turn on the very first go, even playing sloppily. With two Paladins, Sue and Shanna perhaps a 6-turn is possible here.

Nord is no trouble, all Allen needs is a Killing Edge crit or two hits. Just need to figure out how to stop the axemen from clogging the bridges, or alternatively how to fly over the rivers without getting Shanna killed.

The race lives! bow

Now I jinxed it!

Felt like playing more Fire Emblem so here's the next chapter.

Chapter 11A:

Here's the map:

And here's the map as far as we're concerned:

Main force is going to head northeast, destroy the crack in the wall (hard to spot!), and skip right to the boss.
Others will go south for exp and two items.

I drafted Klein. He'd appear on T5. We have to skip him because we're going to finish on T4 shades
That is one downside to going into this blind and not looking up chapter maps when drafting.
Fenn and El Grillo also have to choose between speed or their draftee: Tate enters the map on T7, and Echidna on T8.

[Image: VyBBz0b.png] [Image: RcuLfa2.png]

Lalum (the handsy woman from last chapter) joins as a unit and introduces a new mechanic. She's a dancer who can grant a second turn to a unit by dancing next to them.
Lalum and her B-route counterpart are free to use in the race. We rescued her and dropped her far ahead so she can start dancing as soon as next turn.

[Image: 5e3bO4X.png] [Image: TGwDBOg.png]

Leftover forces went south where they'd be just far enough to draw in the first two enemies.
After ending the turn, Miredy makes an appearance in the story. Yes, she's called Milady in the version I have cry
They're looking for Guinivere who's been traveling with us since the early game. Although I think we might have left her behind in the mainland..

Time to get cracking. The wall has 100 HP. For reference our average hits are something like 15 damage.

In the south Treck is set up to counter three enemies. There's a small chance that he'd die if every enemy hits him.

[Image: v5XbTdQ.png] [Image: ICYDYNq.png]

Here we had to avoid being critted by the archer with a killer bow. It's around a 30% chance to crit IF it doesn't miss, IIRC.
We manage to crack the wall with our boss killers unmoved. The route is cleared by Dieck.

Zealot drops Roy in range to seize next turn. Both have high HP so no chance of dying.

[Image: enJKdB9.png] [Image: 9QNOcBE.png]
[Image: 4VJH1B8.png] [Image: eD8fV29.png]

We actually get some level ups in this chapter jive
With Treck it was important to block the village entrance so the bandits can't take those squares.

Less we talk about this one the better.

[Image: d3QZtrf.png] [Image: GlpFLYy.png]

Here's an example of dancing. In this case it allows us to get Dieck in range of the boss for a T4 kill.

[Image: U91YMjH.png] [Image: JM0eDhR.png]

I sent in Zealot first with a Killing Edge so I can give the kill to Dieck who's still unpromoted.
Remember that Light's Brand I grabbed "just because"..? Well here's yet another place where it saves a turn.

[Image: hOwFCMR.png] [Image: h3M2OVJ.png]

We grabbed the two items we could reach. Restore Staff could be extremely useful. It removes negative status effects like berserk or sleep.
Dragonshield is a single-use item that gives the unit +2 DEF.

[Image: 4ZMtn3U.png] [Image: GcF0cFI.png]

Chapter finished in 4 turns. There's a LOT more to the map than this. Gotta go fast though.
Story-wise, we figured out that our "allies" sent us to this shithole so they can backstab us with Bern and invade our country while our army is away.
Ofc Roy decides to finish up business here before heading back home. What could go wrong?

Chapter 12: Part 1

Who could have seen that coming?

Who could have seen that coming?

Who could have seen that --- I mean, here's the map.

Chests have a bunch of goodies and we're going to loot em all! Finally it's our thief Chad's time to shine!
Or not. He's gonna have to haul ass and recruit Ray who's the shaman in the top left. Bye bye door and chest keys.

There are two entrances. Right side is faster I think, but Roy always starts on the left, and right side only has 5 spots anyway.

Right side tasks:
Dieck - Kill The Boss
Zealot - Open The Door
Merlinus - Loot Goodies
Lalum - Dance
Shin - Nap shifty

Left side tasks:
Marcus - Carry Roy
Roy - Seize The Throne
Chad - Recruit Ray
Treck - Carry Chad
Lilina - Loot Goodies

[Image: N3L9C9S.png] [Image: fCyH9ns.png] [Image: LoZFFF7.png]

Zealot and Shin double teamed the first guy.

[Image: CNzMxu6.png] [Image: 6r8IuxW.png]

Lalum danced with Zealot, who then killed the knight.

Dieck used Hero Crest to promote to a Hero at level 17. He is now a beast.

[Image: JeD3Qz8.png] [Image: D4WjFQn.png] [Image: inabVh2.png]

Chad got hit even though the chance was just 16%. He's gonna have to dodge the next one now.
Treck killed his target. Marcus moved ahead to draw the knight right into his armorslayer.

Chapter 12: Part 2

[Image: LobqmJN.png] [Image: MPnxG6s.png]

Chad dodged the hit and killed the enemy with a counter.
Shin was put to sleep by the Sleep spell, which has a long range, but low(ish?) hit rate. We have a Restore staff, but no-one who can use it lol
Shin is going to be napping for 3 turns. We can afford that loss, but if they get anyone else, we have to restart.

[Image: m2VwfGj.png] [Image: ipfoeWa.png]

Setup turn, no combat. Chad can afford the detour to open the door cause he'll be rescued by Treck next turn anyway.

Zealot was now blocked by another unit, but Dieck killed it with Light's Brand. Zealot then grabbed the sword back.

[Image: oIZeXui.png] [Image: hXL0hWQ.png]

Lalum danced with Dieck and boosted him ahead. He used to have only 5 movement but the promotion upped that to 6.

[Image: L3dec3x.png] [Image: 3yxNOTk.png]

Treck leveled up after a counter, Marcus dodged the Sleep spell.

[Image: 4x5PLwa.png] [Image: UuYDxaI.png]

Lilina killed the Shaman, now she can focus on looting.

[Image: tTx5H3r.png] [Image: sl9jdS6.png]

All these enemies are stuck behind terrain, out of our way pimp

[Image: LnVmjya.png] [Image: N17MC3m.png]

Zealot killed the blocker, Lalum started dancing with Merlinus as she's too far from the main group.

[Image: 2g3Nkgp.png] [Image: NBXFVcM.png]

It was important to get the enemy to RANGE attack Zealot, not melee. Now Dieck can kill it next turn.
Treck dodged the final Sleep spell (from that source, anyway).

[Image: dLyQsKR.png] [Image: yG3wffv.png] [Image: qlSd4dU.png]

Roy got dropped for a turn to make this easier. Zealot opened the door.

[Image: Py7VQyJ.png] [Image: Y50Knvq.png]

Blue Gem sells for 5k, Flux is a basic tome for our new recruit Ray.

[Image: zUzlb9A.png] [Image: NuchHhV.png]

Roy has basically no chance to die. Treck looks like he's far back, but he's JUST close enough to do what he needs to do.

[Image: ZPZ5wuL.png] [Image: NAb7EvI.png]

Roy finishes up an enemy and levels up. With only two enemies left around here, we are set.

[Image: WphB38e.png] [Image: KPxCEEW.png]

Sequence: Marcus rescued Roy again, moved ahead. Zealot moved 1 tile north of Marcus, took Roy, and was able to drop him (you can only drop someone if you haven't moved with him that turn).
Zealot then moved back south two tiles. Dieck is just far enough to be in boss range next turn.
Treck drops Chad, who will be just in range to recruit Ray next turn. His path is blocked right now, but the enemies will shuffle around on their turn.

[Image: H754AXs.png] [Image: T78jRSM.png] [Image: sNWMS9v.png]

Aircalibur is a mage spell strong against fliers. Elysian Whip is a promotion item for fliers. We'll get our flier soon smile
Brave Bow can attack twice a turn, or 4 times if you were already going to double.

[Image: Z6DsW6G.png] [Image: ojLzhd9.png]

Chad dodged and prevented a restart. The odds were extremely in his favor.
A new priest tried to put Zealot to sleep but failed. If it had landed it wouldn't make a difference.

[Image: Q9nPS64.png] [Image: xGiw5iB.png]
[Image: wyZICU6.png] [Image: 6vG7rqu.png]

Dieck absolutely destroyed the dragon with a Durandal swing. It's the legendary weapon we got in the Gaiden chapter earlier. Dieck got S-Rank in swords after the promotion.
Wyrmslayer would have worked too, but had to hit twice with ~70% chance, which is very doable, but why risk a reload at this point :P

[Image: dmVqMof.png] [Image: Xr16pgi.png] [Image: sMzgwQN.png]

Chad recruited Ray. Next chapter I can promote Ray so I have a staff user. Lilina still isn't Level 10.

[Image: csAQakL.png] [Image: 4505ljE.png]

Lancereaver is a sword that is good against lances. Now you might be asking why didn't I just come in from the south in the first place.
Well.. I originally had other plans for Lalum, then Shin started napping on every try lol
With Lalum's help, Merlinus looted everything much faster than expected. Not a problem thankfully, all they could do after looting is idling.

Chapter done in 6 turns. I think 5 is possible if you dodge every Sleep spell and have Lalum not fall behind. I didn't feel like fighting the RNG and redoing my setup.

Next time: Cave Gaiden 2: Fog Of Fun!

Sorry about that, there's a 50 image limit per post yikes

You guys don't mind me continuing, right? I figured it's better than nothing since the race has been pretty dead for 3 months now, but I feel a little bad too.
Reply

My vote is continue, as you say its better than nothing at all

I've been busier than expected at work, but I'm definitely planning to continue. For one thing, I've never actually finished this game before :3
