Civ4 AI Survivor: Season Three

Fair enough. I think I like your idea better actually, if we can think of any new scoring categories to use.

No but there were more points given for the knockout stage (and even more in the final) in the EURO prediction tournament we held last year.

I'm not a fan of increasing all the point totals for later games in the picking contest. I always hate it when TV game shows do this, where the last five minutes is worth more points than the first 25 minutes to keep things suspenseful for the audience. And while I appreciate the suggestion to add more categories, I think we have just about the right number at this point with the current categories. If we start to go beyond the current half dozen, we'll reach the point where it's hard to keep track of each person's picks. I already have people asking me all the time to remind them what they picked a few days earlier because they're forgotten! I'm happy with the current setup here.

However, that's not to say that the picking contest is only geared towards those who have been around from the start. One of the fun things is that there are a whole bunch of different ways to tally up the points and evaluate the contest using different metrics. For one thing, every game has its own small contest independent of the others. Everyone is always competing on fair grounds there. In the multi-game summary, we have the overall score, the average score, and the "Best Five" score, with those latter two categories providing a way to evaluate people who had fewer submissions. Finally, we will also do a "Playoffs Only" scoring category to see who can pick those games the most accurately. I think having multiple ways of doing the scoring is better than having a single category and changing the points around halfway through the process.

I also finished the writeup for Game Five so here's a link to that. Enjoy. smile

This game feels like a playoff game, going by the field strength.

Community predictions have been added for Game Six. As a reminder, we'll be hosting our game at the usual time of noon (EST) this upcoming Friday. If you still haven't submitted a prediction yet, you have about a day and a half remaining to get them in. Thanks all. smile

Dunno if my picks took properly as there are two "other" entries on the list. I was Zara to win by dom on turn 329, Lizzy 2nd with Pericles dying first 15 wars. Random.org was Julius to win by spaceship on turn 355 with Cyrus second and nobody dying after 15 wars. Please update if the spreadsheet doesn't show properly.

It looks like your picks went through OK from what I can see.

Watch it. It's a GOOD one. I actually had to pause it for like 15 minutes to calm down (like not in a psychotic way, I just wanted a different result  lol.)

Edit: BTW for those that don't know you can watch them in the twtich recent videos instantly instead of waiting 9 months for Sulla to upload them to youtube.

Edit2: You don't even have to wait for the stream to be over you can just start watching recent videos like 5 minutes after the stream starts.
