[Spoilers!]---Superdeath hopes for a better Pitboss.

(July 16th, 2018, 09:26)The Black Sword Wrote: Hi superdeath, You asked for some feedback on your game, I'll try to get through the thread and give you some. Just read the first few pages so far. I'll probably be mainly looking at areas for improvement, so it might seem a bit critical. Please don't take it that way! smile

-I don't like the choice of Charisamtic as a trait. The main benefit is +2 happiness and I think it is often a hard one to use. Most traits just straight up give you stuff(eg. IMP gives give you ~30h per city), you invest that free stuff into more settlers and workers and get more stuff. But happiness isn't automatically free hammers, it's more like an investment opportunity to grow onto extra tiles. You need to figure out the correct time to do this to catch up with the other traits. It's also very map dependent, since if the mapmakers gives you a bunch of happy resources or not a lot of food, it's not that useful. Essentially it's not very dependable. I do like both Eygpt and Creative though.

-Worker -> grow to 2 -> worker was almost certainly better than worker -> worker -> grow to 2. A decent rule of thumb is when you get the 2nd resource tile improved - you want to be at size 2 and working it straight away. A 6 yield tile is really powerful.

- Mining the plains hill as your 3rd tile isn't great also. As it turns out copper was on that tile, so it was the best move, but with the information you had at the time, it's not the tile to go for IMO. I'm not a great fan of mines in the early game in general. I think it's better to focus on resources and chopping as the best use of worker turns. Mines are pretty mediocre but sometimes they are good enough. If you are going to mine something it should be the river grass one in the south rather than the plains one in the north.

-Could have considered going for AH before BW, this allows you to improve the deer in the cap's 3rd ring for the 2nd city. That city would have a 5 yielf tile to work immediately on founding. BW is also powerful, so I'm sure this is the best choice, but it is a possibility.

-Why not settle the 2nd city two tiles north on the hill? This gets a wet corn and flood plain tile at the expense of a crabs. 2nd city should be settled to maximise the snowball IMO and then adapt the dotmap around it, rather than the other way around.

i tend to choose Charismatic due to my tendencies to overwhip/not get enough happiness especially in single player games. The extra -25% promotions isnt bad either imo, but not what i typically use CHA for. I feel like some of the better traits IMP-SPI-PHI i feel i wouldnt "use" to the extent that would make them a clear-cut choice. Yeah, IMP saves a bunch on settlers which is amazing, but as ive read in reports if you dont end up fairly ahead in cities you likely have a somewhat dead trait then.

---------
If i recall correctly, i did the micro on it for quite awhile and i believe that worker-worker was the best for early development compared to a size 2, although i very well could have overlooked that particular opening. i think i toyed with worker-worker, and worker-warrior-settler?-worker or something to that effect.

Fair enough, i think for that i used my singleplayer mindset, due to the map usually putting copper on a random bare-hill. So yeah, i was really banking on that logic pulling thru and it ended up doing so. I very much so used to/still do go for too many mines vs cottages ect and i plan on rectifying that.

I honestly didnt even think of AH before BW, i figured with rushes out of the way one way or another.. rushing to AH for chariots didnt seem like a good idea, and i would have ( and did ) miss out on 3rd ring improvements i will have to look out for that in the future.
-----------

Yeah, that is a major flaw of mine.. i go straight for the dotmap then go plant cities.

Once again thanks for looking at how i played during this. Ill take all the help you can give smile

turn 126- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjJe1rBdm9U

Im.... Back in Black! +50 gold per turn at 0% and while that seems to be WAYYY under what others are getting ( whom i also know dont have COL AND HAVE MORE CITIES????? wtf! ) Seriously, AGG maintence discount is no joke..

Anyway, due to the excess gold i have... i will be making some war chariots/harchers to go and grab at least the two border cities with yuri when ipecac/wetbandit attack. Currently have a Great Scientist heading to the cap for an academy. Which will help speed us along to Civil Service. Buro/acad cap with plenty of cottages should help keep us afloat in tech. All my other cities are either building Courthouses, graneries/workboats or military. I feel like Ipecac/wetbandit/JR4 are the current game leaders although not by too much. Me, WLP, Dark savant are runner ups with.... chances? to take the win. Yuri is food, Charriu was food, now he is just wandering a settler/axe around my territory.. Which he built a long time ago thats alot of hammers that might have saved him, but then again he almost never whipped. I bet i whipped more in my final... 6? turns of pb38, than he did all game. ( not that i likely whip often enough...but )

In better news, i popped GOLD in a mine. Wish i had gotten as lucky as someone else in PB38 and popped gems turn... 40?  such a game changer.

Why aren't you ganking Charriu's settler? The free worker too much personal benefit?
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

rolf Honestly, because he still has/had a galley near my fish nets and that would be a pita to have to whip a boat to kill his galley when he is gonna be killed id figure soon. plus he ignored like the 1 spot for MILES that has no culture in it, and he could settle on.. ALSO ALSO, if his axe ends up in a weird spot he could actually threaten a city as i have alot of warriors.. ALSO ALSO ALSO.... he is playing in the same new game as me in pb40 and i dont want the bad relations there.

If it makes you feel any better.. PB38 spoiler--
I had also thought that maybe you had made a settler accidentally, saw my warrior and had thought " ill swap this for a worker when he kills it! " Yeah..   alright  i do hope we can both be in another game together w/o troubles scared

if he goes somewhere EZ i might gank it for a worker, cuz i DO need more workers..

turn 127-

Continuing to whip out infrastructure.. got a couple units popping out in the cap and other high production cities. I am currently debating on using my GS for a golden age, swapping to caste, getting another GS plus some other crap to pop another golden age.. and bum rush to buro b4 the golden age(s) end. My other option is the one where in 2 turns i build the academy in George Carlin ( cap ) and then turn on research and just hit buro.. do i then eat anarchy to swap to buro, and go buro-caste and get my golden ages from there? Decisions.. im sure someone would know the right thing to do but i dont have the time to try and sim it out, ill likely wing it and turn my podium finish into a dead-end.

Other options,
Swap everything to wealth in 1-2 turns.. and then pop golden age?
Swap everything to a war chariot, wait a turn. then whip whip whip whip?
Swap to wealth, then go research buro-beeline to guilds, then whip whip whip?

SOOOO many decisions, wish i had a ded-lurker here to give me some advice/nudging.. lol

Turn 128- Many plans.

So ive thought it thru, and i have a plan.

Step one. Collect 1000 gold ( random number to go for ) to do so, run 100% gold slider with "some" wealth builds.
Step two. Use the Great Scientist that i currently have, to start my first Golden age. Swap into Caste system, pick the high-food cities, and go ham on specialists. Turn science to Full blast.
Step three. Burn CS-thru guilds.
Step four. If i get enough Great people, do another golden age. if not, use whatever scientist i might get for an academy, Once i have CS and can revolt, swap to Buro.
Step five. If everything goes to plan, i should have a monster cap, a bunch of knights, and a golden age to screw around with.

Now, all that said, if Wetbandit decides to rush into Yuri, i will simply send my current stack of War Chariots to take the border cities.. im currently getting 73% odds on the closest city... thats pretty good :D

If you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask. I know im such an interesting player twirl

not too much new going on, saving one more turn of gold, then kicking off the golden age and mass teching. Then its murdering time. I am #1 in espionage atm, and currently have tech visibility on JR4 and Wetbandit who are the current tech leaders. Switched EP to WLP for hopefully city visibility as for some stupid reason, culture wont expand beyond a simple lake to by-pass a mountain. My border city with WLP expanded its borders and "should" have had culture on the mountain ensuring that i would know at least a turn or two ahead of time if a potential attack would be coming.. So that sucks. Ill have a more "real" update once this crazy workday tomorrow ends.

PS. go to walmart to get your dogfood, no need to have me deliver it to your door from Amazon. :P

As the song shows, we have entered a golden age! Plus swapped to caste, and going to eat a couple pop to hopefully get a scientist+ something or just another scientist for an academy. Researching at break neck speed.. cant catch Wetbandits Rep-fueled specialists... But we are doing quite well as we steam along the tech path.

Yuri declared war on ipecac, im assuming to get a turn order for the war thats more favorable... because the power graph shows that this is gonna get bloody.. ive moved a small stack of war chariots over near the border to snipe at least a city. Possibly 2. i dont expect yuri to insta-die.. but i dont think its gonna be pretty. Ipecac whipped likely every city for at least a Horsearcher if not knight.... thats not good. im 1 turning civil service-monarchy, and should be able to 2 turn machinery and fued. Guilds i might not quite make it to.. but i will be producing some great people. Artist is only for another GA, scientist ill take for an academy, and merchant for some much needed gold. if i end up getting 3... mhmmm that would be nice.
