Should have counted tiles better
I don't think tile counting was the problem, more the lack of defenders in the new capital leading to a repeat of the Poly demogame capital-raze move.

Sorry to see this happen, I was rooting for you!
How many players have launched space ships? When's the next AP election?
I have to run.

Yes, that was definitely A problem. And after I was silently chiding Broker for only having a warrior in one of his legendary cities.
But the tile counting comes in that I didn't think he could 1-move my city, because I hadn't bothered to count the tiles.

Just Munro and I - Munro's will land in like 4-5 turns.

Okay preparing for the rollover of T278, otherwise known as the "AP turn". Sunrise and I were once again planning to spread Hinduism to a Broker city on EOT277 (via attack sub), and then call the vote on BOT278.
We hadn't really figured out how we were going to handle the "Broker gifting his city away" problem that we've ran into the last 2 tiimes. Sunrise had not canceled his NAP with Munro, and despite my "dastardly" attempts, was not going to be able to do our previous plan (which was attack Munro's ex-Broker city, and then "liberate" it, to Broker, which doesn't require approval, we thought).
So I composed (but did not send) a letter to Broker
Quote:Hi Broker,
Well, as you will see once you log in, I have once again "recruited" you back into the Apostolic Palace and proposed a Diplomatic Victory. I guess I figured since Munro voted himself the Secretary General of the UN, that maybe you wouldn't find it so bad back over here on this side? :-D
Obviously this is not the first time we've gone through this. The previous two times you've gifted a city of yours away to invalidate the election. I don't fault you for that - as we've talked about before, you gotta do what you gotta do to win the game.
But this time I can't help but feel like circumstances are different. As far as I can tell, you can't win the game. If this AP election is thwarted, Munro will still win by space before you could win by Culture. Even UN Diplo is out, since Munro is now the SecGen.
And maybe you're okay (and would prefer) Munro to win. I would understand if you felt that you needed to gift a city again to allow him to win. But I couldn't stand by without at least making my case.
I feel like I have played a solid game. Perhaps most importantly, I (like you and a few others) am one of the few original players still left. I actually went back and checked my thread and found that my first post was in July 2009 - so we've been at this for nearly a year! So I feel like that gives me a leg up in the "deserving-ness" over replacements like Munro. Although he has been playing for awhile too, so it's not as if SilentConfusion or alex (fairly new players) were to be in the running.
So I guess you're kind of in the "king-maker" seat. I know that until recently you've been on Munro's side, but there was still a pretty good portion of the game when you and I were closer. I know that we differ in the explanations of how things broke off when the UTA split up, and probably nothing I say or do at this point will change your mind on that. I still maintain that we wanted you to come with us, as well as that neither you or I would be in as good a position as we are in had things not gotten shaken up back then. But again, it probably doesn't matter.
I don't really have anything to offer you I guess. I could have offered a ride on my ship to AC, but somehow that got sabotaged? (I'm still not entirely sure how that game mechanic is supposed to work? Did Munro burn the Mission Control center? And all the scientists? My ship is still out there!!!! :-) ).
I'll probably be around off and on for the rest of the day if there's anything you'd like to discuss

Even though once again the Civ Gods frowned upon us and had the turn roll on Sunday late morning / early afternoon, we managed to coordinate and found out
1) Sunrise had not moved his sub into position. I guess he played T276 early, but didn't move the sub becaues Broker had a destroyer nearby, and then forgot to move it later.
2) It didn't matter because it was the Pope election anyways
Oh well, I gave it a whirl.

Well it's all over but the arrival - Munro is going to win and there's nothing anyone can do about it.
I feel bummed about losing because I feel like I *should* have won, but oh well.
I got outplayed at the end and that was all that mattered.
My only decision now is whether or not I raze one of Broker's culture cities with a Commando mech.
I can't decide if I want to or not. It's mostly out of spite and pettiness, and will make no difference in the outcome of the game.
And I'm not really angry at Broker anymore.
Anyone have any opinions on it? Maybe I'll just capture it and gift it back to him. Shows I "could" but without being quite as jerky.

I think you should just raze it. Giving it back seems a bit too much like showing off. Doubt he'll be bothered since it will be the last turn and it doesn't really matter.
