Wow, I had almost forgotten already how good things are looking.
I'll take a stab at a dotmap of the north.

So, there's a settler completing in DMH next turn (by which I mean the end of the next one), at the same time as another chop, which can be used to accelerate the build of another settler or a worker.
I don't think I've timed it all that well since the axe in the east might not be able to get back in time for the settler as cover. Hmmm. Also, it's going to take a little time for the galley to drop off the first settling party and get back. 'Cos there is a settler completing in 2 turns in Speed Limit, with a galley waiting and a worker ready to join them too. The western axe could head east, and the axe coming down from the north straddling the two sites until that axe can join it. I'm sure something can be worked out anyway. I just haven't done it as spot-on efficiently as novice might have... :-)

Any thoughts on settling all of that and winning by domination? I bet you can't.

If you know what I mean.

zakalwe Wrote:Any thoughts on settling all of that and winning by domination? I bet you can't. I bet we can't too... I did mention a few turns ago about trying to quickly encroach on our neighbours' territory, including stealing the iron from Pegasus, but it looks like two sources would be too hard to grab and we'd have little control over Pegasus stealing TT's. Pegasus isn't that far behind us in expansion, and he has Ziggurats to help (we're just going for pure high income/high expense), so I wouldn't expect it to be long before he gets a city up there. Dotmap-wise, it might be better going back to your original one, novice. We can put a low-priority filler city in the middle (say 1S of the peak) and move the pig city 1N to accommodate one 1N of the spices. Looking at the wrap, there could be one 1S of the crabs. The layout will leave a couple of tiles on spices column unused, but nothing's perfect.

Crosspost: heh, almost spot on, except I talked about 1S of the peak (rather than 1SW) in the SE.
I was also trying too hard to get a repetitive settling pattern, which 1SE of the sheep and 1S of the crabs would do. But given that this might be setting the likely borders, it's best as they are. So what do we do with the diplomatic fallout of encroaching on Pegasus' land? Iron city is a guess, of course, and could go further north, but that's not a problem for now.

Well those two western cities won't be the first cities we settle, so we don't know if it will be an issue. He might settle there first, or we might already be hostile. I imagine we might tell him that we consider the northern continent a "first come, first served" area.

Well we might send the first settler from DMH to that one-tile island in our south, after all. We can whip a galley in Pair of Hooks.

So, the turn came round again. I started the capital on the Parthenon, due in 6. This is its science output at 60%, after taking a cottage back from Sailboats (which now works the newly improved silks).
I double-whipped the forge in Gut Shot - it can probably do a library next to utilise the trade routes and Colossus-boosted coastal tiles (if we get it...). I decided to send the galley to pick up Jack to move him further along the coast - the galley will still have time to pick up the settler and worker for the new city. Pair Of Hooks is coming along nicely. We can whip the forge soon. And DMH is about to complete a settler, with plenty of overflow ready for another settler, or a worker.
