Thanks for the diplo summary. I'd definitely be against a reload, especially since Darrell doesn't even want it.

Turn 214
Starting with the fun - we lost a SotL to the Ironclad outside Weissbier, but Darryll didn't kill the grenadier who burnt the city for some reason. At Tequilla Slammer eight airships hit the city, then our nine muskets and three grenadiers will attack. To begin with C1 musket vs injured GI grenadier 3% LOSS (2 hits) C1 musket vs injured rifle 6% LOSS (0 hits) C1 musket vs injured rifle 6% LOSS (3 hits) C1 musket vs injured rifle 6% LOSS (2 hits) C1 musket vs injured CGI grenadier 7% LOSS (2 hits) musket vs injured GI grenadier 6% LOSS (1 hit) musket vs cavalry 4% LOSS (2 hits) musket vs injured GI grenadier 17% LOSS (2 hits) CRI grenadier vs injured GI grenadier 70% WIN! (3 hits) CRI grenadier vs injured CGI grenadier 86% WIN! (1 hit) CI musket vs cavalry 15% LOSS (1 hit) CRI grenadier vs injured GI grenadier 92% WIN! (flawless) So that leaves two rifles and a cav in the city with three grenadiers on our boats. So we'll need three wins next turn to take the city. Might be tricky... All those losses are going to hurt our War weariness We might burn Salty Dog next turn, but after that I think our naval threat would be exhausted. Looking at the rest of the Troll territory we could really do with a great general commando knight - WIFOM only has an axe in and Caipirinha only has a mace. The GG from SFL can attack WIFOM on t217. He'll get 95% odds to burn the city... Probably a bit much to hope they leave it open until then though. There are ~35 units in Hillbilly punch, so Katana might be in trouble soon too. Power - I don't understand why Trolls have given up. They have a secure border with TEAM, double the power of anyone else and still have that tech lead.

Hey Chaps - we won!
I'll do a round-up of the state of the world tomorrow if the game is still up.

Well done guys! But gotta dis your name one last time:
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
Yay, great job team! I've said it before, but I'm really impressed by how you played this game, Old Harry.
Now let's continue the fun over at our PB14 thread
Yeah, I'm still surprised we won--just like you Yossarian, I assumed we were still going to lose, or at least fight for the win, leading to a race to Combustion.
Now I need to figure out what to do now--I can continue contributing in PB14 of course, but maybe I should put aside my fear (and lack of micro-prowess) to actually join a game in a more-active role
Epilogue
Thanks for the kind words guys, I really enjoyed playing this game all the way through, and while the turn pace was a bit annoying at times (I don't think I'll play sequential again) it did allow me to learn a lot, which I think a faster clock wouldn't have. I logged in as Trolls to have a look around their lands. It turns out they weren't in a good way at all. Half of their cities are unhappy and they are 9 turns away from Combustion (maybe a little quicker with wealth builds). Their bigger cities are just screwed for happy - we did really well out of the exclusive happy on SFL and the later campaign of disconnecting their happy resources. We have nearly twice their number of cities (although some are a bit unhappy, it's not nearly as bad) - we've burnt about six or seven of theirs since the war started, they've done four of ours. We're still 20 turns from combustion though, so we'd have to last ten turns of destroyers. Trolls still had seven coastal cities so if they put everything into destroyers and transports and sent maybe 20 cav to SFL I think they could still have won, but really their mainland is so screwed that I can see why they wouldn't want to. The big thing that swung us the game was (totally unintentionally) misleading Pirates and M3 about how strong Trolls were. I wonder if Trolls had invested a bit of time debunking that notion would it have made a difference? It sounds like they didn't talk to other teams except to make deals (certainly the case with us, but as their greatest rivals that's unsurprising). I didn't talk to Pirates or TEAM much until near the end, but when I did I sent a lot of very candid info and we behaved very friendly - never threatened either of them all game. The friendship with M3 was probably the key though - HAK and THH are great to chat to and I put time into lurking PB12 which I think they appreciated. I never doubted that M3 would have our back - the only question was whether between us we'd be strong enough to beat Trolls. To that end the 17 rifles they loaned us were probably decisive. Also decisive was the decision to destroy our economy to settle SFL. Looking back I'd probably have put settlers in place to settle for a lot of the sites if Trolls turned up rather than placing the cities. We got very lucky that M3 popped a prophet to swap for the Physics scientist in the 180s (allowing us a golden age and free civic switch to state property) when Trolls beat us to the Communism spy. I'm not sure what else proved decisive - I haven't looked over the Troll-TEAM war, but I was surprised that TEAM put up as much of a fight as they did after we left them in the lurch (yes Tasunke should have communicated his plans better to us, but I was too busy to properly pester him about them, so should share some blame). As a final note the Troll war weariness is 440 while ours is 619. Have a map of the world (click to embiggen): Commodore - had you envisaged a share of the spoils on Smoothfoundland or did you expect something like this? Anything else people want to know before the game is taken down?
