PBEM #1 - Saladin [Spoilers]

Hey thanks for the update, I've been fairly disapponted with the lack of posts on this game (not directed at you, just in general).

NP, it's my pleasure. Thanks to all for the helpful comments. I rarely have time to post more than quick update so this weeks break is a bit welcome as I've had a chance to thinik more than ever.

I'm trying to limit my whipping as I'm trying to grow everything quickly. I'll be switching to pacifism in 2 maybe 3 turns for a brief time so I'm considernig also going to serfdom at the same time.

I believe darreljs was indirectly making the point that grassland forests and lakes provide minimal productivity beyond feeding the citizen that works them; growth is good if you have quality tiles left to work, but if you are stuck working bad tiles it might be better to whip away the citizens.

Well I've played 2 turns since the update. I've just whipped the granary in zapotec. Completed a LB in Mecca and on to another one. Will only need anotehr 3-4 and then it's on to Cats and CA's. I've had an idea to try and secure some cats from an "alternative resource" which I'll post more on when I get time. This would allow me to focus on CA's and maybe some Maces or something.

Completed some stuff after ending turn so next turn will have more detail.

So I played 620 AD and there was a lot that went on. Got engineering from MH which came in handy this turn with the extra movement point. Completed the granary in Zapotec and went onto a light house. There's a worker 3(?) turns away from there to start improving it. Medina finished the missionary which went to Damascus. Started on a Market I think it was. 8 turns for that. Mecca completed a LB and will produce a worker in 1 turn. Damascus completed the forge and will get a courthouse before going all military. Courthouse should be finished in 5 at the moment. I think I can get a chop into it though. Baghdad completed a missionary which went to Mecca. Started on a worker due in 5. I had plans to double whip it next turn but see below duh. A chop went into the courthouse at Najrah, 9 turns left on that. Apart from that movement of units around. I'm starting to gather my chariots/HA's and am going to try and locate them in one spot. Ruff's scout is currently at Najrah, which I'll try and keep a close eye on that as I don't want him to see this stack :-).

After deliberating some I decided to adopt serfdom completely forgetting I had need for slavery next turnsmoke. Which means 5 more turns before I can adopt slavery again so I'll use these turns to slow build the worker then switch back to slavery and adopt pacifism at the same time. I'll have baghdad go on another worker so I can double whip it and attempt to produce a GS in Medina. In the mean time I'm going to run all cash until then (with 2 turns left on banking) so I can go immediately on to economics.

As well I guess the AP motion was to stop all trading with MH which suceeded so interesting to think how the AP might play out when I go to war with Dreylin. I won't be very happy if they stop the war! Anybody know if I can declare straight away again? Or is there a cool down/waiting time frame with the AP stuff?

for the AP, to be able to pass a 'stop the war' resolution, both side must be (at least) voting members (which you are not since you don't have the religion). What is more worrying is that they could (and for sure will) try to pass a 'declare a holy war on the infidels' (that is you / or mh) and in that case Soooo will have the option either :
1. to accept and be 'officially' at war with you (but I guess, it could be just phony, don't know if there are any consequence apart from cancelling all current trades which you probably could redo the following turn)
2. defy and have lots of unhappy in his (religious) cities (since I don't know if you have all informations on which of his cities have this religious, I won't comment on that)

Once I declare on Dreylin, it's my understanding I'll lose my trade routes to Soooo and Ruff, as I have no other access to them, so I will be adopting Mercantilism at that point. Man I love being Spiritual smile

played 650ad. worker completed at mecca who went to put a turn into a Windmill at Baghad. from there will go help hook up the gems and road to Zapotec. Started a University at Mecca due in 4 but have a chop come in next turn. Chop came in at Damascus completing the courthouse in the interturn. Nothing to announce, just units moving.

Here's a general overview of what I plan to accomplish in build up to my upcoming attack on Dreylin.

I want to manipulate Dreylin into gifting me seige units for going to war with MH. I'll use that war to get my 10XP unit for the Heroic Epic. Then make peace and combined with MH attack Dreylin (with his gifted seige shhh)

If I actually pull this off this could fall into the bow category.

Essentially I have to get MH to work with me on this. I plan to gift him my warrior now doing MP duty in Najrah and then kill it. I'll probably have to kill another unit (hopefully he has an archer or soemthing cheap) adn I'll replace it for him. That should allow me to get my Heroic Epic.

To get Dreylin to gift me seige or otehr units, I need to persuade him that MH will be declaring on me soon. I could promise him tech/spoils of war/something that would benefit him. Of course I will have to back out of this part of the deal but he doesn't need to know that. As well I should be able to cancel our NAP without alarming him too much by saying Soooo demanded it from me since the AP demanded to stop trades with MH.

I haven't put any of this in motion yet but will be soon. I've been thinking on how to try and get something like this going for a while and the big thing was cancelling the NAP with Dreylin without alarming him too much. I'll post all the corresponding e-mails as they get written. Keep everybody up to date and such.

so played 680 ad. Ummm...Dreylin freaking spybombed me...what the H. E. Double Hockey Sticks is up with that??? Holy wanna steal tech? I'm pissed about this and will figure out what to do. I might have to move faster...
