[Spoilers] Yaz of Persia

So Darrell landed his troops W of Pasargadae (I'm getting better at spelling it now from memory). In total 2xAxe 3xChariot 1xSpear. They can cause me some problems for sure. Might even be my downfall. Ruff has his two galleys moving back this way I think too, spotted em on north coast with unit on way back.

So I move my immortal from forest defence into pasar, pasar finished a spear at end of last turn and I move another spear I'd moved up from Persepolis last turn into the city. The city uses roll over from whip of mostly complete spear to build walls. So I haven't simmed any of this but I think with that unit composition he'd have a tough time taking the city on his turn. He'd need to take out both spears for his chariots to be of use but at least the first axe should lose to my immortal thanks to it getting defensive bonuses and thus having odds against it. Meaning I should have a spear left and probably full health (depending on if he throws in his spear too) to fend off his chariots.

More likely what I see him doing is retreating to the now vacant forest tile (my other spear that was there moved SE onto road), loading back up in his galleys, or perhaps sacrificing his troops to cut my strat resources. Wish I'd been more proactive about chopping those forests earlier.

Chat with America Wrote:Yaz: liking the looks of my defences?
Darrell: It was a pleasant surprise I guess
Darrell: everytime I make a move you foozle me though, so I didn't get that excited
Darrell: probably have units in the fog or something
Darrell: something mean for sure
Yaz: no units in fog
Darrell: slaved unit then
Darrell: something...always something
Darrell: <paranoid jack nicholson eyes from teh shinging>
Yaz: hey now, paranoia is the trademark of Paranoid Persia. You can't use that.
Darrell: heh-heh...touche
Yaz: I did give you one 'surprise' but yeah my pants were down as everything was being ferried over to ruff
Yaz: long ways back
Darrell: yeah, I know
Darrell: that moral GG has to be back by now though
Yaz: guess it would depend whether he was near a road or not
Yaz: I suppose you'll find out when the turn rolls though hehe
Darrell: grumble
Yaz: Who knows, maybe you don't have a stack any more :-o
Darrell: always a surpise
Darrell: now *that* would be a neat trick...but I wouldnt put it past you
Yaz: Well you see you just open the save file in notepad and.... :P
Darrell: Is it really just a text file?
Darrell: that's hilarious
Yaz: I have no idea, never bothered to look
Yaz: Anyways monarchy + math
Yaz: what to do?
Darrell: I'm willing to do math+mono for monarchy+cash
Yaz: How much cash?
Yaz: and switch that to poly not mono
Darrell: that I havent figured out yet
Darrell: math+poly+mono for monarchy+meditation+cash?
Darrell: thats less cash since poly costs more smile
Yaz: no you can drop mono
Yaz: poly is less than mono
Yaz: oh you need mediation?
Yaz: you have priesthood though right?
Darrell: lets see math is 250 and poly is 100, while monarhy is 300
Darrell: all times 0.67 I think
Darrell: so that puts you at 50*0.67 = 34 gold
Yaz: Do you need priest hood?
Darrell: no, I don't
Yaz: k how about monarchy + meditation for for math + poly
Yaz: I'll forgive the beaker dif
Darrell: not really *that* intrested in meditation,
Yaz: and you're just saying that because you're trying to delayme getting math :P
Yaz: fact is you're getting a deal there beakers wise
Darrell: well...there are other considerations at play
Darrell: I'd be willing to give you a 50% dicsount ont he cash owed I guess
Darrell: so 17 gold
Yaz: math + poly for monarchy + 17 g?
Darrell: yeah
Darrell: traded via dreylin I guess
Yaz: how about via krill?
Darrell: that is also fine
Yaz: I actually haven't met dreylin yet.
Darrell: oh, didn't know that
Darrell: krill is fine with me
Yaz: ok deal
Yaz: I'll get in touch with Krill about it.
Darrell: okay
Yaz: having an army over seas is expensive eh?
Darrell: yeah
Darrell: 17g pays for about 2 turns
Yaz: A little awkward paying for my destruction
Darrell: heh-heh...that's pretty funny

So finalized deal for math. Monarch + 17g = Math + Poly . Works out nicely since I'll have 20g leftover from pillaging ruff's improvements next turn :D

Further chatting with Darrell apparently he managed to take the city. Obviously he got a bit lucky on the rolls, especially with his chariots as his 3 chariots managed to take down a full health spear behind a wall which would have started as a 10 vs 4 fight. That's a shame, will have to check log next turn to see just how lucky he got frown Oh well, I can easily build a fast settler and resettle that spot. He also confirmed for me that he formed an alliance when I went to attack.

Finally get to see the combat log and yeah he got really lucky. He got one hit on spear at 0.5% odds, he got THREE hits in at 1.4% odds and then he won the next fight at 40.2%.

Was chatting with Dreylin today. He told me a secret that he thought SL gifted an ivory city to Krill so that Krill could trade ivory to Darrell as well as build a cheap forge in the city for SL. Needless to say I was not pleased at the prospect of having to extend my 'civilizations to destroy' list further.

I just went through in game though and thankfully it looks like that didn't happen. I did notice that SL gifted a city to Ruff though (dreylin didn't mention that and should have spotted it myself). I'm suspecting the city dreylin is talking about was simply renamed to Galle which fits with what I see in going through saves for last few turns. One advantage you get to have playing PBEM as opposed to Pitboss and saving all your turns smile

A rare picture for you guys. My new 2nd city rebuilt after darrell razed Pasargadae (right after I finally started remembering how to spell it damnit). Has a little bit easier name to remember.

Third city will be founded next turn on forest by the iron. Settler was built using roll over from whipping settler for Ecta...(whatever). I was originally planning on expanding nearer ruff. But that would be hard to defend, leave me strung out and I don't have the workers to make it worth while and the units to protect it. I'm holing up behind my defences right now. Ecta has a wall from chop of forest finishing near it, working on granary and growing back up.

One remaining worker. Did I mention I messed up anf forgot darrell had a chariot left? Yeah well he did. Apparently my 2 workers found out first hand when I sent them out to chop a forest frown To add insult to injury Darrell just got lucky on his rolls against me again and took out two of my galleys while only costing him one (won the first one at the 35% or whatever odds).

So things aren't great. But then I haven't been expecting them to be since everybody has decided it's in their best interest to kill me or help in getting me killed. Only one who hasn't that I know of so far is Dreylin so I'm feeding him some intel on Darrell's research that I can see. Krill isn't really trying, he's just working to profit from the wars as much as possible. Right now as I've said before my only goal is to make this war as expensive as possible for Darrell, SL & Ruff. If things go to plan they'll be handing this game over to Dreylin or Krill (provided those two don't mess it up) and thus I'll have met my goal for this game.

My current thoughts are to build the GW just because I can. The GG points from coming fights in my borders may help and I have stone so it's not hard to build. Additionally if by some miracle I survive long enough I may get a great spy which I can use to steal back some technology and catch up. If I don't survive that long then really an extra spear or two probably wasn't going to make the difference from the storm anyways.

Are Spies allowed in this game?

I posted the rules on first page as I understood em and that is that only civic and religion changing missions are out. Everything else is a go. I've never gone espionage before but I think this may be the situation for it, plus I now have CoL so can fit in a courthouse maybe before the storm hits to run a spy for more spy gp points.

er wtf? This has me completely baffled and confused at the moment. We had no chats about this beforehand, it's completely out of the blue.

On one hand the 30g would be helpful and better relations may be good. On the other hand this is the guy who's done everything he can at every turn to help people at war with me from giving them resources to gifting them cities and he's asking me to be locked into peace for 10 turns with no way to prevent him trading resources to Darrell except his word.

Should we read that as you're not accepting it? Or going to hold on to the turn while you talk to SL?

I'm holding the turn and trying to get in contact with SL atm. I tend to never see him on chat but Krill informed me him and darrell can't play for something like 22 hours and dreylin is fine with me holding it for a while.
