PBEM 8: E-mail & Technical Issues

Strange... Wait a second, I've got an idea of what might be causing it. In PBEM, when you play a turn over again like WarriorKnight did when you restarated the game, you HAVE to delete the old save first. WarriorKnight, I'm guessing you didn't delete the original "to_Cjreynol" save did you? If not, then you need to delete any "to_Cjreynol" saves and then replay your turn and pass it on to him. I bet that will fix it...

Basically in PBEM, overwriting saves never works... Always have to make sure the old save is gone.

Hmmmm, that might be the problem.

Replayed and resent.

Excellent news, things went off without a hitch. So I guess no making new saves without deleting old ones first. But now we know and the game can really get moving. Save sent to Meatbalz! jive

Oh, don't worry about about. That's balanced by the fact that you have mountains surrounding your capital. :neenernee

Errr.... a 6 food tile? Only suggestion is to edit that out and then begin playing again since we can't edit the WB file (not to my knowledge). Since we still haven't cycled a full turn yet, I think it's doable (but when can I play turn 2???)

Ummm... whoops. smokecry

Yeah, we definitely should restart [again, I know]; every other start has the same basic configuration of resources, and that tile is NOT part of that configuration. I'll check to make sure there are no other tiles like that.

EDIT: I won't have civ access for another week, though; I can modify the WB file directly and email it to WarriorKnight, but he would have to start the game itself. I don't see any problem with this myself, but it is up to the players, obviously.

DOUBLE-EDIT: Nevermind. The WB file on my laptop corrupted frown, and my only other good file is at home, 100 miles away. If this problem is to be fixed, it will have to wait a week.

So options for the players:
-Wait until Sunday to re-restart the game.
-Allow meatbalz to enjoy a six food tile [which can become something like a nine food tile when improved].

a week seems a bit much. i'm ok with restarting on a new map (if we can find another person willing to act as mapmaker + balancer). i'm also fine with playing on and not improving the tile, although clearly that does give me an advantage for the first turns.

finally, i just wanted to double-check a point you made there tatan -the one about everyone having the same resource configuration. i don't think i'm giving away any spoiler info by saying the demographics sugest some starts are inland and some are coastal.

Keep in mind considering the "weeks" time that I won't be able to play until Monday anyway. My vote personally goes for fixing it.

@meatbalz: I can't really comment without giving away map spoilers, but lurkers helped verify that the starts were all pretty much equal, without noticing of course the one tile that you got [which was very hard to see].

I'd vote for fixing it and I guess I'm ok with waiting for the mapmaker.
