Pirates doing Diplomacy?

Since Nakor hasn't posted lately, I'm going to step in and take over diplomacy for now because we REALLY need to start negotiating. Unless someone objects, I'm going to send this message to M3:

Quote:Dear M3,
At this point it seems obvious that we can't stop you from taking Tortuga. We offer you congratulations on your military success. However, as long as this war continues, it will be a massive drain on your economy and the other teams will get farther and farther ahead. Therefore, we propose peace under the following conditions:

1) We will gift you Tortuga
2) Sometime relatively soon, you will gift us a settler
3) We will make no attempt to settle any sites closer to your capital than Tortuga. Any border cities should be discussed in advance
4) NAP until T100

If you refuse, we will build units as fast as we can, and make it as expensive as we possibly can for you to conquer us. If you accept, we can work together to grow and prosper.

Sincerely,
Team Pirates

Is asking for a Settler pushing it?
More people have been to Berlin than I have.

Thanks for taking over, Luddite. Can't seem to find the time... sorry...

Personally I'd just fight this war out and if we survive, we've got a decent change to play a role in this game. But that's just my thoughts...

No problem Nakor. Either way, peace or war, is fine with me- it's hard to see us coming back at this point. I'm going to send this message:

We would like to ask that you allow us to keep Tortuga. To put it bluntly, if we lose Tortuga, there is no way for us to compete in this game long-term. However, we can still make your life difficult by , and making it as expensive as we possibly can for you to conquer us. If you accept, we can work together to grow and prosper.

Our proposal for peace is simple: you withdraw from Tortuga, and we will make no attempt to settle any further towards your capital. We can discuss an exact border if you wish. We will also work together to help you out as much as possible, and would like an NAP for 100 turns. This is the best chance our teams have to make an economic comeback in this game.

Sincerely,
Team Pirates
I doubt they'll accept, but I guess it's worth a shot.

I would consider giving them an opening w/r/t getting ivory, if the message hasn't been sent already.

EDIT: this was written without realizing that there were two more pages of more recent discussion on the topic. I just clicked the green arrow for last unread post and it took me to October 22nd or so with TheH... [can't remember the exact name] message. Written in the context of current overwhelming odds outside Tortuga.

The terms of that peace are VERY GENEROUS in my opinion. I mean, come on: razing the city and settling closer means they have to invest in a settler AND give up the advantage of the hill AND give up first-ring corn (which isn't such a big deal with Stonehenge). They have ample force to take and keep the city. It will be another 5 turns at least before we can get even two axes down there to threaten Tortuga-under-M3's-Control, or even to defend Barbados.

Taking the terms as they are offered we preserve our present army, do not give experience to M3's current army, buy time to build barracks and research masonry for walls (and possibly research HBR). I vote accept the compromise, but request permission to settle for horses to on one of the hills. This position may not be a priority, but it's best to keep it open for us.

Do not lock into an NAP longer than 20 turns. After getting peace we can decide whether to go all-out military or build for 50 turns and then military (just remember to strike before Khmer gets elephants).
