Turn 31

The barbarian invasion is defeated! After munching another BP (“vamps are right, these are delicious!”) the lizardman was left at .1 health, so I only got 1 XP taking him out. Total cost: 2 BP and a turn on the next settler. Synergies will grow to size 6 and complete two more BPs on schedule, although the micro will be a bit tighter to do so.

So this turn I see HK gain 7 points (i.e. tech #7 – every third tech, including first, worth 7 rather than 8 points). I predicted earlier that it would be mysticism, and the timing (5 turns) matches his beaker rate perfectly. I might ask TBS if HK’s switched into God King, though he might wait to grab edu for apprenticeship as well. Possible that it was actually edu (or even AH) of course.

Sian gained 23 points which should be land points for his 3rd ring (16 tiles – no water in 3rd ring). As creative and (I believe) starting in religion, he gets 4.4 culture/turn. That would pop 3rd ring after 12 turns (12*4.4 = 52.8) or EOT 11 = 20 turns ago. The point jump freaked me out at first; glad it has a sensible explanation.

Turn 32

A barb warrior showed up this turn south of Synergies' corn. I'm predicting (hoping?) he takes defensive ground on his way to becoming XP and doesn't try to make any crop circles.

Demos:

Sian get's his first tech in 12 turns. That's gotta be hunting or education. For his sake I hope it's education; by my count he still doesn't have either of the capital's commerce resources hooked (no calendar or mining). He needs some econ quick. Also, rival best & avg land didn't go up this turn, so that should confirm that it was HK with the new city and Sian with growth to size 6 on turn 30.

Yell0w also got a tech this turn. Took 7 turns, which seems a bit long for mining for him, but that still makes the most sense since I'm pretty sure he got crafting before that.

Rival average power dropped 200, so total power dropped 1000. Either someone starved (yikes), or more likely lost a warrior and built a scout.

Lurker question: anyone know which techs give power points (and how many) in EITB? Is there a list somewhere?

Am I seeing wrong or your Capital's Corn is yielding 8 food? Was it an event or is there something I'm missing?

EDIT: I don't know the answer to your question. I think there was a thread in the General Discussion forums about power points in FfH, though I'm not sure it still exists (it was made before the forum switch). Try using the search function there.

He had a +1food event IIRC.
Where's the third city going?

Q's got it right; I figured +1 F >> +1 C.

Perfect, thanks!

On the C1 (heh) sign 3 SW of the capital. Picks up 3 floodplains, 3 river gl, and a wine first ring. capital culture picks up 3 hills for it to work too (will mine pig). Should be settled turn 38. Around then I'm going to send out a couple bronze BPs to go looking for city sites and contacts. I'll do a dotmap someday, I just have so little map info it feels pointless.

sooo, hunting is worth 2000 soldier points...that plus a warrior loss would account for the change in power. That feels at least as likely to me as someone building a scout at this point ; right now everyone should be pumping warriors in order to survive the barbarian hordes. Hunters are worth quite a lot (8000), so might be able to confirm from a power jump in the next couple of turns.

If Sian really just grabbed hunting without hooking any commerce specials or being able to build cottages...that's quite the WoTF beeline. Sounds like a tree rush, gulp. Arendel's creative trait is great for that too. Probably just being paranoid, but it is another reason to get some scouting units out and find everyone.

Funny you should ask that:
Jalepeno Wrote:Hey, how are things going? The barbs have gotten much, er, friendlier with me these last couple turns. Still, I've promised myself to send out some new explorers soon and was wondering if you could give me directions to the dwarves & grigori (have you met any others since then?).

Also, would you mind checking to see if the dwarves are in God King? HK+Mardoc have done so well in past PBEMs that I'm a bit nervous tbh (my first mp and all). So I'm trying to keep an extra close eye on them and track their techs, which is hard without contact. I'd be happy to share my learnings with you.

Best,

TBS Wrote:Hi jalapeno,

I'm doing well, though the barbs are picking all the wrong spots to stand on these days for me also. Congrats on your second city btw!

I still haven't met the Elves or the Elohim yet, but based on my best map guesses I'd say they are closer to you than the Dwarves or Grigori. The dwarves are about the same latitude as you, and roughly equal distance either east or west I think. The Grigori are slightly north and would be a bit quicker travelling east. However I suspect one of the other two is closer to you if you head west, though obviously I couldn't be sure. I'd be grateful if you could let me know if you do meet either of them.

The Dwarves are indeed in God King, they revolted last turn. They do seem to have gotten off to a fairly nice start, I think thanks to their Industrious Dwarf worker.

I hope your putting you're enjoying all that food,
TBS.
Jalepeno Wrote:Hey, thanks for the info. I've got HK down then for ag, calendar, [crafting], mining, exploration, AC, and mysticism. Pretty standard opening for this start and his civ.

Thanks! Looks like a couple other folks have been putting down barb bait, er second cities as well. Food is lovely, although I could wish for a few more hammers to deal with barbs. Had a rather nasty incursion from a C2 lizardman recently.

Best,
Jalepeno
TL;DR
  • confirmed that HK's last tech was mysticism and he's now in GK; in return, shared my HK tech list to try to build goodwill
  • Asked for directions and got a rather vague response
  • TBS noticed my 2nd city and food lead, so he's paying some attention at least to scores/demos
  • Tried to do a little HK fearmongering, and downplaying of my own position
