[Spoilers] REM and AdrienIer's thread of football, spamming and blaming it on the mod

You know where I am going to suggest settling... That plains hill looks like it would be a cracking city. Such a pity it has a terrible first ring. However... What if we go for a religion. I looked over and there is actually only one person who started with mysticism. We have already had a bonus food tech so once we have the wheel to connect our cities going for a religion may not be bad play here. With this many people not everyone is going to get one, and I feel that after the wheel going for poly would not be a bad idea. We would be delaying granaries, but it isn't like they are cheap anymore and I would be fairly confident of getting a religion if we tech it as our 4th tech (bronze, wheel, myst, religion). If only that clam was 1 tile south... Regarding scout moves east and then wherever looks most appealing?

Thinking about it Bronze-wheel-myst-poly-priesthood-writing and using the marble to oracle COL would be an interesting play (then we'd go pottery/AH), but I feel weird thinking about building courthouses before granaries. It would also be a play to take Oracle away from our competitors as well as Confu (2 religions ? I'm sure something good can come out of that). That way we get the most out of that plain hill city IMO.

In other news, a new turn rolled and the scout (moving E-NE) discovered another grassland sheep :

. HitAnyKey got a tech at the new turn, I don't have time for more than a gut analysis so I'll say he got fishing. Mysticism is less likely I think, though he could be going for a super early religion for some reason.

Well Fishing is now the only base 40 tech now I believe so probably right. Plus on a big and small coastal starts are rather likely.

You have missed masonry on that tech path so that wouldn't actually allow us to use marble for the oracle. Bare in mind also though that our capital is a little hammer dry, so it will be quite hard to build. 2 religions would be nice although I think if we miss the oracle then we will be rather behind on commerce, and probably with food hammers in slavery. Also it would hamper us from a state religion standpoint, with 2 autospreading religions rather than 1. However if we are just using them for culture then it is a bonus.

I agree that we would need to play for culture early somehow if we were going to settle that city spot.

For scout moves we should try and maximise land squares seen now it is less important for city settling to try and find huts. NE and either NE or NW after I would say.

You're right about masonry, I knew it was too easy wink
So more like Poly-AH/Pottery-Pottery/AH-writing ?
NE-NW is my preferred path, except if the NE move reveals stuff.

No we need hunting for the sheep in this mod not ah if that if what you are wanting an hus for?

We should decide based on what we have on turn 28, which means even more food and hammers in case of the former. The second warrior would be built on turn 28, we don't have a big difference in hammers while we definitely have more food. And faster 2nd city can compensate that. Actually it's probably better to wait till we find our city site (or at least have a good candidate), because if our second city is great we'll want to have it sooner rather than later.

With our spamming we're winning the post count competition ! But Commodore is winning the Views competition, which is unacceptable. He even has lurkers writing posts in his thread, that's unbearable wink

We had a lurker once... tongue

Will we use the sheep soon ? It's not in range of the plain hill city although I'm sure we'll put a filler city there at some time. The PH is a risky plant for a second city due to distance but I don't mind stretching our empire before turn 60, and we probably won't plant a crappy southern fur city for some time. For now I like the Fish/crab/double silver for a third city so no need for hunting till then. AH was more for horses, it would be a shame to have them outside our 3-4 first cities because we didn't see them early enough.

Irritatingly we would still need hunting to pasture them though. And we would gain a 20% known tech bonus with hunting so we might as well get it fairly early. And no I doubt we will use the sheep but I was unsure why you wanted an hus is all.

As for stretching the empire, whilst it is far away I do grant you I don't think it will be that bad. I am paying attention to that tech thread comment about double check you are sure you are happy with the map size - I am expecting the map to be big - I rolled a few huge big and small maps and they are enormous. Add that to reclaiming ice/tundra which seems to have happened with the original seen start and actual start and there will be huge amounts of land. But we need to look west first before deciding on that plant.

I took the turn as it rolled again, and there was a nasty surprise - bear!

Luckily I could run away smile I went NE and then as I couldn't see much that would make me wanna go NE again, I went NW. Good call!

Another hut for next turn. So the next scout move is obviously west, then? Zooming in I'm pretty sure that is a solid shoreline to the north, but I think that the grasshill connects to something northeast. Basing on that I would go W-NE, then SE-SE. Whilst we would have some coast not unfogged I reckon that is optimal for hut searching. If SE-SE does not show anything then we can move for that grasshill to the extreme northeast and hope there is a connection there, otherwise we have explored an uncontested zone... frown

In a way I hope this is a peninsula so we could take our time to colonize it, but on the other side I'd like to explore with the scout in the next 10 turns. Also we need to meet other civs for known tech bonuses.

Edit : lots of techs were discovered this turn, and for Commodore and Furungy it wasn't fishing because they had it at the start. Too much stuff going on, I don't think we'll be able to track what people are researching (unless you really want to make the effort in which case I'll try to help).
