[Spoilers] Dreylin of the Khazad fumbles around in the earth (EitB PBEM39)

429g.

The game is Q's BTW, double Golden Age will just accelerate that. He also just blew his SoKs to finish Great Lighthouse.

He has a Galley outside Cheddar with 3 cargo spaces, so I started to shuffle some troops that way and covered my chopping Worker on the coast. Also started some Military builds and Drafted from Wensley and Gorgonzola. I doubt he's going to land, but I should put up the best defense possible.

He sent some weird trade requests inter-turn: demand for Enchantment Mana followed by a Clam-Enchantment trade. I refused both and counter-demanded is Fire mana. So maybe that does mean he's going to attack. Well, as I said the game is all but over, so it really doesn't matter if he comes now or later.

Construction dialed up - 3t at breakeven.

Whatever you do, don't give him Enchantment mana! It's very valuable in hands of an attacker that has adepts.

How long till you have copper connected?
Reply

Yeah, not going to help the runaway. Copper will be hooked next turn.

Q declared and pillaged the Clams at Cheddar; a pain, but as long as it's a single Galley I don't intend to change research plans (Construction-Sanitation-Sailing). I did stuff a bunch of troops into the city, which gained new Copper Weapons. smile

Kragroth has Kithra outside Stilton; I only have a C4 Copper Warrior inside, so he could probably take it if he wanted, but I hope he a) doesn't want to take the risk and b) realised that us fighting only helps Q.

Started a Settler at Brie.

Kithra is exploring.

Q's Galley departed back North; rebuilding the Workboat, but will keep most of the troops in the area incase it returns with friends. Started a Training Yard in Stilton so I can generate Axes from other than Wensley. I'll put the Siege Workshop in Gorgonzola, I think.

Q has Trade, not sure for how long. As expected, he is up Sailing and Sanitation as well as Writing & Trade. Down Construction, HBR and CoL. Not as bad as it could be, I guess.

Awesome, not terrible at all. It's good that he doesn't have HBR yet (we were lucky to pop it, good for us!), this means he can't do any attack too fast. He doesn't have KotE yet either?
Reply

Nope. Not sure how long he's had Trade; might just be this turn, since when I made him a Peace offer turn before last there was no option for techs on the screen.

Construction came in at end of last turn and Sanitation due in 4t. GNP is showing 26x vs 28x, but we're on a 2-prereq tech. I think it has to be Sailing after that, but beyond that we can decide to keep chasing him or strike out in another direction.

Dreylin Wrote:Kragroth is pissing about. No idea WTF he hopes to gain by attacking; the only chance for any of the rest of us to win would be by ganging up on Q, so maybe he's just wanting to aim for second place?

Or does he want me to kill Kithra so that he can build the Shrine of the Champion?

Not enough time to play the turn right now so I'd appreciate your thoughts. Mobility means I can reinforce the cities to not lose them, but I don't think I can counterattack this turn with enough force to take him out. Also wondering how he could kill the Thane and capture the Worker in the same turn as I don't think they were on the same tile and he doesn't have Blitz.

I do need to confirm the pre-req for Blitz to make certain I don't get caught out on that score.

Aurorarcher Wrote:Wow, a weird move from him indeed... Not sure what he is thinking. Ruining it all!

It's not for Shrine of the Champion for sure. You can build Shrine if the hero of your civ dies; not if the hero is one of those religious heroes (like Kithra).

You can attack and capture the worker afterwards IIRC. However, it doesn't work to opposite direction: capture worker -> then attack doesn't work. From log you can see he attacked first and then captured the worker.

Blitz comes from Military Strategy (so he has the required tech, didn't he get the free GC?). But Kithra is only Drill III now, could promote to Drill IV next turn if he earned enough xp from that combat. Don't think he got more than 2-3 xp, so no Blitz yet for Kithra.

Wow, I'm not sure what to do to be honest. Attacking Kithra at the moment doesn't seem like a good idea, it has 85% retreat rate which makes it pretty hard to kill already. I would probably reinforce the cities like you said. With 4-5 units attacking Kithra next turn it could go down, at least to very low health. Remember to keep 2 units in Cheddar, if he promotes to mobility he could attack there as well (don't think he will though).

This really is only helping Q, dang!

TBH, whatever the reasoning, this move has killed my enthusiasm for the game. As stated previously, the chances of Q /not/ winning are slim enough, but if the other three of us are sabotaging each other then there's no chance at all. I have loved the map (even if there might have been too much space for my preference) and enjoyed the builderying aspect of the game, but if I've got to turn the other cheek to a move that is blatantly not going to help someone win the game, just for me to preserve a slim chance of my own to win, then my enjoyment has gone.

I can choose not to go on tilt against Kragroth, but TBH what would be the point of making that choice in the current game situation?

Well, he ran Kithra away and left the Worker in place for me to capture, which I guess is a positive sign. Of course he then demanded my World Map for Peace, so no so positive. I rejected and demanded his instead. Also moved troops around to cover if he decides to head back. In my mind he owes me reparations for the lost Thane and Worker turns, not the other way around.

Cluny came to look this turn as well - Galley off the South coast - so I will need a substantial force to settled that coastal spot. I didn't mention last turn, but he adopted Arete (so he has that tech) and now he has KotE in the list as well. He did declare war on Kragroth though, so not all bad! mischief

I'm not as down on the game as I was last turn, but I can't see myself riding out to anyone's aid; probably I'll just turtle and defend if anyone comes calling.
