I can complain about the game not ending, but im not gonna int/not try and help. Figured Yuri would be closer to rational thinking.

I kept open borders going mostly because i saw it as a world vs scooter game not too far into the game. Plus i like to scout/hate free caravel scouts and think that is broken (along with Airship vision........)
"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. [Image: noidea.gif] In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."

No one apparently wants to stop Scooter (why is this game still going??) Cairo is getting galleys in position, and has game-long decided to have heightened defenses on our border. Bing is... just bad at the game. Yuri had probably the strongest potential, and then got into a war with Bing over who knows what. Dont know. Dont care. Ive asked everyone to stop trading/stop bickering and help vs scooter. Not even a gfys. I thought i would enjoy a water-based map, but really all that does is magnify any tech differences. No collateral for boats until late modern era. No way for the defender to actually defend/fight back. As soon as someone has the leg up, its basically curtains if people dont snap back to reality (ooop' there goes gravity)

At least with a land-based map, a defender can reasonably assume to smash a stack so long as they werent caught completely off guard. Ive done so multiple times vs people with a gen or even 2 gens of military tech ahead of me.

i was no more than roughly 10t behind scooter getting Galleons, and no one else other than maybe Yuri will get them before the game (should) be called.

I hate sounding like a negative nancy, but damn. He played a great game, and i think i was the only one to see him taking off and want to do anything/look forward to doing anything about him.

Damn, I could feel your frustration in the in-game diplo deals too.

As you can see in my lurker thread, Yuri settled a fairly worthless city behind one of my best cities, which also allowed him to fork up to 4 cities total, then showed up with a bunch of swordsmen in galleys which is when I declared war on him. I whipped more than enough to defend everything, but he wouldn't give me the city (which to repeat was very threatening to like 4 of my cities) in a peace deal so I had to whip even more to take it with catapults.

Then later on he threatened me with samurai in galleons, again forcing a lot of defensive whipping, followed by a bribe which resulted in him going off to attack... Cairo.

Felt I had to make excuses for myself. Sorry about that!
