PBEM 24 Organizing/Tech Thread

We can all go round and round on this and never get anywhere. To some extent, I agree with Bob - it is generally a bad idea to edit a map because you find it objectionable - if thats the case just call the game (see PBEMs 11, 12, 16.) My only reason at all for differing from that point of view is that all of us agreed for an inland sea and made assumptions based off of that. Its pretty clear that the subs make the inland sea too risky to use in any normal sense. So those of us who made game decisions based on that reasonable expectation are at disadvantage.

Still, the game is going to lose a lot of steam just sitting around wishing and hoping for T-hawk to magically fix this for us, so I think maybe we should either play on as is or call it. Given a day to think about it I suppose I'm nit fussed either way.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Have to agree with Bob on this. I'd like to see you guys deal with this minor problem.

Well its easy from outside, but TT made it clear that he will not continue from this situation and Me for example i did gain precios information so i will plant no cities on the inside waters. And for sure we will not find a replacement in this hard condition(If i was TT i would quit my self too, because you just dont expect a think like that, its like a tank apearing and desdroying improvments)

Will be a shame to end the game, becasue of 4 subs.

I think invisible subs is just too much.

Hi guys. I'm here but about to head out for the day, will be back online later.

I'm sure I can remove the barbarian subs with DLL hackery. I need TT's current save (make your moves then save during the turn), civ password, and the admin password if there is any. Email is erik at dos486.com . I can probably give TT back his nets too, or at least work boats to do it.

This also puts me in the situation of ultimately deciding whether the subs should be removed, though it's pretty clear if the players are unanimous. I can understand the lurker arguments of play the mapmaker's vision and deal with a curveball factor. The situation differs from PBEM6 in that the PBEM6 map used a visible obstacle to create strategic planning options, while this map removes options since planning ahead was impossible and the only right answer to the hidden gotcha is to just avoid the inland sea entirely. I also understand Bob's argument to create a reason to play in the outer sea... but the players specifically requested an Inland Sea map which carries a certain fundamental expectation of having, well, a usable inland sea. Nakor, the subs aren't a minor problem, they break the original agreement, as if the mapmaker gave out archipelagos when a pangaea was requested. Bob posted in the lurker thread that he thought players would get bit once and then move more carefully... but how, really, can you do that other than avoiding the sea entirely?

But rather than lynching Bob, can we give him credit for a creative idea that didn't quite pan out?

Hey T-Hawk, first of all, thanks for being willing/able to help out with this one, and I hope we didn't put you into something of a bind.

Absolutely. Bob, cynical commentary aside, I am enjoying the map, and the size is in the "curveball to be planned for" category, which I appreciate and am rolling with. There is not any personal animosity here at all, and even if we dislike this particular idea, I think I speak for everyone else when I say thank you for making this map.

I'd rather lynch him. Gimmie a sec, I have to dig my pitchfork out of the closet.

Which email do you want me to send the save to T-Hawk?

Also, do I get my crab nets back or not?

I wrote my email in the post, you fail reading comprehension wink

I'm sure I can restore the crab nets or at least spawn work boats. Are players unanimous in doing so?
