Could it be the difficulty (monarch ?) bonus vs barb/animal ?

I think you are right. This thread at CFC contains some info on difficulty levels. One element is the -20% against Animals for Monarch (as per your comment). Another element is the chance that the animal attacks (95% for Monarch).

So ... with Woodie I promotion, my scout will have a 5% + 95% x (1-0.348) or 66.9% chance of surviving.

I am going to take those odds. The alternative is to hang around until the bear moves off. Seems like a waste of scouting time to me. I guess more scouting time would be wasted if the scout dies rolleye.

I would wait or move the scout NE-N for now. The hut is not going to go away, it seems.

Hmm - I am not so sure about the hut not going away ... Caledorn has a scout to Boston's NE (see T29 report above).

That's miles away, and he is probably going to circle your borders to get a glimpse of your city tile. You are probably fine for a few more turns down there.
Would you take a 69% combat in anything but a crucial battle?

On the other hand a nice hut-pop and a bloody bear battle will do your turn reports at this stage a lot of good! wink

All the time. I am always willing to roll the dice.

Too late - I moved the scout 1NE, 1SW (back to where he started). I will wait to see what the bear does this turn and then mark that hut up as 'T31: Stupid mh' and leave it at that (with the aim at popping it later smile).

Turn 31 - 2760BC: Part A

After much 'attack', 'retreat', 'do both' discussions during the last turn, I can now tell you that the bear in question ...
... moved 1 tile north. Paul will be sent charging up that hill to claim the hut spoils (and then to wait 30h to see if he survives. No more insults about my boring reports from Mr Ded Lurker!

I can't show anything else as the game crashed to desktop on me when I joined.

Turn 31 - 2760BC: Part B

What bloody idiot suggested that I pop a hut with a warrior? And who was the fool that talked me into putting my scout at risk for a silly hut. 30 turns of careful, meticulous play and it is ruined. Ruined I tell you.

RUINED!!

RUINED!!

RUINED!!

RUINED!!

<brief meditation (medicated?) interlude>

Hello all. Welcome to the T31 report. Here is my capital after coming out of the slavery revolt. The 20h from the mine, plus the 12 hammers from the Boston's tiles are being put Stonehenge. As you can see from the insert, that decision is costing me half a settler. In fact, I could whip this settler to completion and have 60h into the next one next turn.

So - Stonehenge is costing me some short term settlement options.

Anyway ... what else happened this turn? Let see ...

First off, my Cambridge protection warrior went walk about and decided to pop that hut he found last turn. The result.

BARBARIANS

The good (hahaha) news is that there is only 1 warrior. However, the bear seen two turns ago is back (see the 'I'm back' sign above). My warrior has a 50/50 battle coming up.

YAY!

The other news is that Paul the scout also popped his hut. No barbarians for him. What did we get? A map.

I am sure that this critical map information will come in very handy at some point. Yeah Right.

All in all a bloody excellent turn. I hope that you enjoyed this report.

I fail to see how any blame can be pushed my way!
I predict a one-in-a-million RNG dice roll for the warrior.
