Qin definately deserves some dark horse points there. An accomplishment by Team Banana, who would have thought of such a thing?
Civ4 AI Survivor: Season Three

Psillycyber, that sounds incredible if you're able to pull it off!
How would you share the games with the rest of us? A written report?
I guess I would have to take a cue from the master and livestream it.
Also, I was thinking that an alternate format would be to have 4 playoff games on small maps with 9 players each. Send the winner and runner-up from each game to the championship. Maybe even have a wildcard game of all the survivors from the playoff round, and then send the winner and runner-up of that as well to the championship, for 10 players in the championship (likewise played on a small map). I have a feeling that 9-10 players will be a little easier to keep track of, and will allow for a little more appropriate spacing than 12.
I'd love to read about your FFH tourney, but l'd have to sit out a livestream- I can read a report in 15 min, while a FFH livestream would likely take hours to complete. Still, I'm only one person, you might have plenty of other viewers.
Also, consider making a new thread, so we cease to hijack Sulla's.
I had an idea last night on the plane home. What about (randomly chosen) unrestricted civ/lleader pairings. Now I wouldn't make it full unrestricted, only allow each civ the same number of times as it has leaders (i.e. Spain or Ethiopia can only be picked once, Rome twice, England thrice and so on). Couple that with Wyatan's original techs only and we could get some crazy games.

Personally, I enjoy having these games with restricted civ/leader pairings, in part because it feels more "pure" to the concept of the AIs and how they're designed, or something like that, not to mention a lot easier to follow. Plus, I think it is fun to keep it restricted because it makes it easier and more interesting to compare year to year which I find very fun.
Excellent game. I particularly liked how Caesar took Debre Durham by scooting his units through English territory on railroads. One minute all of the Roman units were a good 5 or more tiles away, the next the city had fallen.
Also ... I think that if England had been able to Nottingham after York had finished its task ... that would have been game over with a Liz victory.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Thanks again for posting all the write-ups for these games, Sullla; they're fantastic!
I've noticed my own picks and associated "comments" have been straying increasingly toward the impossible, but reading through other people's comments, I see that somebody intentionally picked Tokugawa to win by ... Diplomacy! I wonder if that has ever happened in any game of Civ4 ever played without Randomized Personalities.
I'd also like to say thank you for the reports. I don't have the patience to watch an entire game, and I prefer just reading about it. But I know that it's a lot of work on top of everything else, so: Thank you!
I've got a question about your side note about the Protective trait in your Game 7 Preview. Quote:Side note: the way that Firaxis gave the Protective trait to a bunch of Asian leaders is arguably racist, and at the very least in rather bad taste. We've got Churchill and Charlemagne as Protective leaders, and then Gilgamesh, Mao, Qin, Saladin, Sitting Bull, Tokugawa, and Wang Kon. This deserved a little bit more tact. Am I missing some context or some hidden meaning of the word protective? (I'm not a native speaker.) While it's a weak trait in-game, it doesn't seem like a negative term to me. |
