This game feels very impish

Looks like you got 194 capture gold from taking the cities, so that makes up for a bunch of wealth builds.

Yeah, and the GG is worth quite a bit too. I don't really feel like the war was a bad investment, but I did expect more out of it. These two cities were the bare minimum and I feel like I should have snagged at least 1 of the other 3 available to me. To be fair with the coastal city, I was setup to beat Rusten to it on land, but superdeath emptied the city allowing Rusten to take it for free by sea, I don't think he gets it otherwise.

This was the turn all my elaborate planning came to fruition:

Mmm, bulbs. We had to resort to 15g of wealth building to hit Astro on time. There's been a lot of moving targets during this golden age with getting the tech and units lined up, and the war complicating things regarding happiness, gold and reinforcements. I'm feeling pretty happy with the timing in the end.

Time to get growing this Bureau cap now. Managed to get it up to number 3 in the world this turn before it drops when the GA ends.

And some other golden age cities that didn't get highlighted:

It turns out I was second to the new world. frown

Well, first person with settlers at least. I'm not sure when Comm gets Astro itself. I sent him a fish for fish offer, to signal I'm happy to share. For a brief moment I considered going for his ports while I have the upper hand at sea, but that's just winning the local battle and losing the war to mackoti. I can't keep up with mack if I get involved in such a war with Comm, arguably I can't keep up already. If mack does have coast on one of these seas though then I probably will try to pressure him. A naval advantage is a great way to tie up a bunch of hammers with relatively few.

Seems like more of an island to the East:

I have a plan to get the next GP out of here, cashing in on the HG gpp before everyone else overtakes it and before the opportunity cost of Heroic Epic hammers is higher:

If I'm going for the heroic epic I probably need to pick one of these kindly explorers in my territory and murder him in cold blood for the last xp. Not sure what I'm teching next though, Literature, Taj or Guilds. I have a really good set up for the Taj build but I sort of expect to crash my GNP further with Astro settling, so not sure of making it. Indecisiveness is the absolute worst civ trait to have though, so I should choose soon.

Hearthstone related, I started messing around with Odd Rogue today trying to figure out the best build, and just couldn't stop winning. I think this is the earliest I have ever hit legend:

That's really impressive!

(if you ask which, I mean both Civ and Hearthstone)  lol

This land is pretty awkward to settle. Need a filler on the wine to pick up the fish, but I want to find some higher quality sites elsewhere first. I met an OH caravel just south of the island. I just want some uncontested land man. frown Same policy as Commodore, want to keep the peace for the moment. IIRC I estimated 1500 astro tiles out there, it will take a while to fill that up. The barb axe is bad news in the short term. I had to drop off the archer, in case I get unlucky, delaying the 2nd settler. It should mean there are barbs to farm for the Heroic Epic on the other island though.

The second galleon is going East, I'm going to try for circumnav since I'm first to Astro. One of the galleons on the other coast is also starting the journey. Finding OH's borders and getting the last few contacts for known tech bonus is also a plus.

The other island is also difficult to settle:

Where's the food? This spot seemed ok, a coastal spot seemed good so I could unload settlers and workers immediately, it can lighthouse the lakes eventually and it is otherwise pretty awkward to pick up the top right flood plain. I don't really want to settle the East of the island unless there's a real scarcity of spots/clump of resources. Those cities would need a constant garrison because they'd be in range of galleons from Comm's home coast. I want backline cities with 1 defender max!

Dtay went in superdeath:

Doesn't look like it went that great to me, it depends how much promo healing he has if he can finish this off quickly. I should have had this HA in position last turn, he would have gotten odds after dtay played and could have picked up the HE. I thought dtay was waiting for more troops tbh. A new archer defends this turn. Exploring dtay's land with OBs btw, he has a ton of it. Pretty sure he's the no.2 land area behind mack. Speaking of which ...

That hammer figure looks great huh? He's not in a golden age anymore, it's just souped up workshops and a whole bunch of them. I think it is quite likely he's going for Astro next too. The main reason is that his power level have not begun a hard spike after getting access to knights. Where are all these hammers going? Wealth building and pre-built galleons and settlers IMO. Secondary clues: he didn't pick up Civil Service so the bulb is still open and he's surely generated some of those scientists in the event log from The Great Library. Not feeling great about the field's chances here. He just has more stuff, so if we take the same path, I don't see how I come out on top. Need to find an opportunity somewhere ...

Other things:
-Gav is getting dogpiled again.
-I'm paranoid about Dreylin because he won't give me OBs. That's tying up a bunch of units at the border.

1. How would you rank the current competition?
2. If you get a chance, i would love any thoughts you might have on my pb39 play. Thanks!
"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. [Image: noidea.gif] In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you superdeath, been a hectic couple of days.

Mack is winning, by a bit of a distance. I'm coming 2nd, there's probably an even larger distance to the pack. I'd probably rank the next 3 in order; dtay, OH, Comm.

Mack's power has ticked up since my last post btw. It does look like he's going to hit someone. He still might have Astro though, I guess we'll see if he settles anything in the next couple of turns.

I've mostly skimmed PB39 so far, so I'll need to go back and read your thread. There's also a limit to how much feedback I can give of an ongoing game, but I'll check it out.

Any progress on the Astro settling spree? Curious to see how that’s going for you.

I'll take some pictures next time. I've settled my initial wave of 6 cities and have now retaken top spot in food and city count. I've 2 more settlers currently in transit, a barb city to take and I'm building more. I'm debating the ratio of worker/settlers/units to make. Cities immediately make 7gpt but cost about 16gpt. So I need to get the worker support there to make them profitable. But if there isn't much land available(I'm still scouting the extent), maybe I should rush be pushing harder on the settler front. A lot of my cities are approaching the maintenance cap though, so the cost might go down soon. Then on the unit front, I don't think I'm about to be attacked by anyone but I'm nervous. My units are pretty spread, I have Comm, OH, Dreylin and to some extent dtay to worry about. I'm trying to de-escalate the dtay border but he hasn't co-operated as I hoped yet.

The West:

Comm is about to found a 2nd city by the banana. I have a settler getting ferried in, not sure where he will settle. East:

I'm about to found on the sugar(probably) next turn. There's an annoying barb spear harassing the pig city, when I only have HAs in the area. But Combat HAs get odds on defense, better in a city(barbs have some city attack malus IIRC).

What we're building:

National Epic is going in Cubelock next, though I might detour for a Parthenon or ToA, Spell Hunter could also build one of them. Thought they'd have been snatched up by now tbh or I would have come up with a firmer plan. Demos:

You'll have to guess who that top power spot is. No hints. wink
