Surely you're confident of being able to eat DZ, too?

I am sure that I can, but the question was more if I can do that while staying relevant (not sure there's much hope of that), and before anyone else finds me and starts trying to eat me. Right now it's a bit less clear. I need to get HAs or Cats before he gets to feudalism. It's just really hard to get there with troops over an ocean and so many tiles. My plan right now is to settle the horses and then the crabs. Get MC and cheap Mints and then out produce DZ and take him out.  Have to get the horses settled. I am whipping a settler next turn (overflow axe in the cap with a barracks, grow on skirmisher, start new settler at unhappy cap).

ITS ALL TAKING TOO LONG!

Okay. I have made literally the worst, dumbest mistake in years of play. I don't think I've ever made a dumber mistake. I am literally sick to my stomach. I don't think I want to play this game ever again.

I don't even know what I was thinking on the previous turn to arrive at this situation. The barb was on the floodplain SW and I moved my skirmisher SW to the forest NW of the barb instead of NE between the barb and the city. I left that axe on the forested hill in the SE to watch the horses instead of moving it to the forest. 2 units I could have moved to prevent this. And I didn't even realize the danger until I opened the turn and saw this.

Tom Petty BTW, just popped borders this turn. Also it hasn't grown so it should auto raze and lose the religion........... WAIT WAIT Tom Petty will grow at the end of turn! it shouldn't auto raze! my god...ok I was about to just quit and leave this game, but if I only lose maybe a granary and a pop and a turn of production I guess I can recover. Losing the actual city and the culture would have been enough to make me quit permanently

Anyway. No excuse. I just was playing the turn as fast as possible because I hated playing this start.

Merry Fucking Christmas.

I am obsessing and tailspinning on this day.

Merry Christmas! You can be sure you won't be the only one tailspinning today. Think of all of those wonderful families receiving DNA test kits as misguided gifts today and finding out daddy isn't really daddy after all. The barb shouldn't raze the city so this won't be as devastating as learning that grandma was living a lie her whole life and your mom never knew.

Perspective helps, right?   crazyeye lol

Rooting for ya, Lewwyn. Merry Christmas!

Thanks BGN, Nauf.

I declared war on DZ, he moved a settler into position to settle the horses.  He can settle this turn and reinforce with 3 warriors and an axe. I have 2 warriors an axe and a skirmisher next to the settler. The settler is on a hill. I don't know if he will settle and reinforce or not. I might have to sit outside the city and wait for reinforcements. It's all a bit silly. I have to admit I don't really have a plan. I really have very little interest in playing. Everything just feels like I'm trudging through molasses.

You can check out of depression island anytime you want, but you can never leave.

Smart man DZ. He upgraded a warrior to an axe and left two warriors covering his workers. If he hadn't I would have tried and likely succeeded in razeing the city. Buut now he's got 4 axes... wish I had some goddamn horses.

I haven't sent peace because I want to stop him from being able to pasture the horses, but I've started mints in all my cities so an offensive is likely not in the works. Well at least he only has 4 cities. He does have the buddhist holy city though! could be good.  horsesssss

It looks like you've explored a fair bit by sea. How does the rest of the world look?

Well I'll try to give a better description when I play again. Still waiting for Donovan to play. Mostly though its islands, no new luxury sources, more copper and a few food sources but nothing to write home about.

If DZ offers peace I am not sure if I'll take it. I can't afford for him to get HAs. Chariots won't be as bad, though if he has the option, maybe he'l build them and not more axes? who knows.

My skirm on the homefront killed a barb axe. He's at 9XP now, just need 1 more to unlock Epic.

I have backed off DZ, I can't take him right now. In fact, he's not that far in power below me now, all 3 cities just produced axes. He's got maybe 7 or 8 now. I guess I have to hope he doesn't push out at me. I have 4 axes 2 skirm on that island. I will settle another city soon. Building mints everywhere. I think...I might have a shot at the colossus. Mint finishes in the Cap in 2t I two workers getting 3 chops ready, I should also grow and add some hammers. It will be interesting.

I think tech maybe should go Writing>aesthetics>literatutre. Then build two epics and maybe the great library? Have to settle for the marble. Maybe parthenon + to NEs... too bad I don't have ANY GOOD CITIES FOR NE! so maybe that's a bad plan. It would be a good plan with some reasonable land. Maybe I just build the mints and then make a shitton of promoted skirms and just slaughter them against DZ's walls. He is teching masonry. Catapults?
