[Spoilers] The Golem Factory: Beeri Bawl of the Luchuirp

Thankfully we're not next to the Calabim, and i don't think they're gonna rush the Elves either, as they have their nasty tree defence thing. Hopefully they will do nothing. Or maybe attack Doviello and slow them both down smile

Not much going on now, but I will supply a picture of how our lands are developing:

Clay is starting a mine, I'd want him to build one on the plains hill next to the barrow, since it also gives 1c from the river, but I don't want Clay to get killed by a skeleton, so that will have to wait until Barnaxus is up.

Speaking of skeletons, we can see the first one walking towards Ithralia, and another Skeleton showed up at the barrow when I sent the turn to Serdoa.

Well then. Clay finished another mine, and I am not sure what he shall do next. I'd like to mine a plains hill to the west but as I said it's next to a barrow.

I guess i'll farm a riverside grassland to the south while I wait for the settler to complete. Actually I think i'll farm the GL tile between the two cottons seen in the pic in my post above, since then the new city will be able to work it right away.

Masonry in next turn and when I sent the turn on I noticed that the second skeleton in that barrow went off to the west. Towards Mist I guess? Too bad, I want every skeleton I can get to remain so I can have Barnaxus farm them.

Got info from Ilios; Serdoa is to the east of him.

Good. Perpentach is a pretty nasty neighbour. Hopefully he'll be suitably distracted by freaks and Loki, and we can hopefully derive some benefit from his distraction.

Yes, except for Mahala (who hasn't found us yet) we have pretty decent neighbors in the ljosalfar and Malakim.

and just for fun, an update on the layout guess thing:

-----Doviello-----Sciz-----Malakim----Balseraph
--------------------------------------------
Calabim-----Ljosalfar------------------------

Which makes me think there has to be someone to the south-ish of Malakim, which would have to be Amelia. Seeing as she (i think? basing this on the name amelia) took a quite long time to settle, the lanun could still be pretty far away, as they might have been looking for a good ocean spot. Maybe she went south-southeast and that might be why Uberfish and Ilios havent met her yet.

Michelangelo killed a skeleton while defending this turn, but aside from that there was nothing fun going on.

The skeleton that previously moved west from its barrow has now returned east for some reason, and there are now 3 skeletons around there now. I wish I had my Barnaxus already frown

What's the current ETA on Barnaxus? From your screenshot, it looks like Masonry finishes turn 34, then you just need Construction. How long would that take to research? Once you do finish Construction, how long would it take you to build him?

Well, your questions are (partly) answered in this post! I hope.

Turn 34

Masonry acquired!

Research start on construction, which will grant us Barnaxus, Sculptor's Studios and Wood Golems. It's a hefty tech at 400 beakers, which is 19 turns at our current rate. However in 4 turns our settler is out, who will rush to settle the 3-cotton spot, which will asap quicken our research pace considerably. When I stop being lazy I should sim it out and see how much faster we can get it. Three cotton tiles = 15 commerce, and we're currently at 18 beakers per turn so research should speed up a lot when we've got all that connected. To help the new city site our trusty golem Clay is going to build a farm which will be in the city's BFC, which will help it grow faster:

Also note the current barbarian situation. Three skeletons to the northwest, which are no trouble at all (I hope they stay there so Barnaxus can get the exp from killing them), but to the northeast a Lizardman is heading our way which is troubling. I was hoping it'd go for Ilios, but no luck there. It'll arrive around the time the settler is done, and I was planning on running out with the settler and two warriors asap, but I'm wary of leaving the capital defended by only two warriors when the Lizardman is around. We'll see what the situation is when that turn comes though.

About Barnaxus then. 19 turns to construction now, hopefully when our second city is founded it will be 14 turns left. I don't think the new city will have that much time to impact the research speed before we get to construction, but let's just say it shaves off 4 turns. That's 15 turns from now then. When we get the tech it takes 120 hammers to build ol' Barney. Ithralia should be size 7 then and making 12 hammers (8 from two plain hills, 2 from city tile, 2 from ivory). That's 10 turns. I do believe I'm in nationhood which should shave off a turn or two. I think? huh So let's say 8 turns. 15+8 = 23. 23+34 = turn 57. I have no idea how reliable this info is, since i half-assed half the calculations but it should be somewhere around there. smoke

I wouldn't worry about the Lizard, you're dwarfs on a hill with defense boni. 2 should do more than adequately.
