Tasunke Wrote:just curious, but why didn't you settle the GMerchant in your prospective shrine city?

Is the RB metagame really that far against settling GPs of any kind? huh

By the time T160 on Quick rolls around there's really very few legitimate uses for a Great Person that have a payback horizon that has any chance of paying off before the end of the game. A shrine is only worth it if the side effects are worth it (i.e. you need the mana or Nox Noctis.) Obviously things like Culture Bombs, Rushing a wonder are situationally useful at any time. But something like an Academy or settling the GP can never pay off as much as bulbing or a Trade Mission when the game will be fortunate to have 40 turns left.

However, settling early GPs can often be a powerful strategy - see uberfish in FFH2 for example. So its not the action, its the timing of the action.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Its his birthday? Happy Birthday!! smile

(and I was thinking more of the +1 food ... but since you were thinking of increasing the gold anyways ... I guess a trade mission is better, but as I've never trade-missioned before, I was mainly thinking about boosting the gold + additional food in the city)

But yes, I was thinking more in the abstract, and less in the (20 turns before end of the game) mode.

Still though, how much gold will the trade mission give?

Assuming 20+ turns until the end of the game, that is 180 gold from the GM at least. Likely closer to 260 if he has gold modifying buildings there. Not to mention the +1 food.

I'd think, considering turns for the trade mission, it would have to make at least 300 gold for me to even consider doing the mission vs making the plant. But as I have little experience with trade missions I don't know whats common ...

(If you are sitting in a foreign city, is there a tool tip that says how much you would get?)

Ja, I have reached the ripe old age of 25 lol

There is a mouse-over tooltip for amount of gold from the trade mission. The math behind it is transparent, but I don't know it. It's mooted since I don't have a good neighbor to ship it to (Tasunke's cities are too tiny. I don't trust Mackoti to not kill it with his HN giant spider. Ravus has been dead quiet and we're officially at war since way back when. Mist is too far away. Amelia, I need to pass through Mackoti to get to).

I could bulb Mathematics and gain ~800 beakers. My shrine city has a *ton* of food and is growing at something like +5 FPT even at size 14 or 15. The only multiplier in place is +25%, so +8.5 GPT would take ~80 turns to pay itself off. Maybe good for a GM spawned from a lair or super early. But on T165? Settling just can't compete.

As you may have noticed, I haven't seen the next turn yet anyways... alright

857 beakers towards math, and I can finish the research this turn as well. Great. I do so as a bunch of cities finish archery ranges. Now I build wealth and tech bowyers for all I'm worth as ~30 Adepts and ~30 priests gain passive XP. rolleye

Just one more econ delay, I promise. lol

Taxation. I have 64 villages or towns. I have another 20 hamlets. All are being worked. So yeah. About the same amount of beakers since I've already got 500 into bowyers. So 5 turns for Taxation, then probably 4 turns for Bowyers. Then Iron Working to see if I can get iron for my bows, then down the sorcery line slowly as I draft and build tax-offices in the big cities in the odd case that Mackoti doesn't win before T200.

I sincerely wish you good luck in successfully deploying an army of LB! I was going to build them in XVIII, until I realized that this train of thought:

Quote:4 turns for Bowyers. Then Iron Working to see if I can get iron for my bows

Led me to conclude that I would be better off just going straight for Iron Working and using Champs instead (very similar stats w/ enchanted blade, better city-attacking promotions than LB, can upgrade to cooler stuff).

Efficiency is overrated in a game at this stage. alright
