Given the assumed and likely land to the north of Joey + the lakes I think that we'll have to assume that Joey will in fact get ivory through trades if nothing else. I don't think that there's anyway that we could block him. He'll pay through the nose for them and, were I Azza for example, I'd be happy to watch Joey rip into a financial civ. So I think that that should be the assumption for any decisions that are made.
So,...plenty of catapults.

yup
so, one thing that I can post a pic about is that I got up onto the red star hill and I saw:
That there was a cow there, which is food Jowy can't easily do anything about.
it is tough to pass up a commerce site as a financial civ, though. I know why we are doing it, but it hurts

so, here's a theoretical question for any lurkers:
In a no-tech brokering game... what techs do you trade for and what techs do you not trade for, because you want the flexibility to trade them yourself?

Cow too?!?! Wow, such an awesome location. We probably can't hold any of that food medium term without military intervention. So it's unlikely to serve as anything other than a plug medium term.
If Joey has half the intel we do on this land, we can assume that he's rushing full tilt to nab that spot. My spider sense is tingling. Feels like a setup.
We're forked if we don't take this spot. But if we do we can fork Joey.

he might, but I think he went the other way in his explorations. I don;t think he knows anyone but us (that we know)

Wow, that's significant. I remember you stealing all his huts and getting scouts out of them. But doesn't Khmer start with hunting (and scout)? I guess it could have gotten eaten early. In general, I'd say that #2 then #3 would be a significantly stronger play but that hugely depends on landing #3.
IF I WERE JOEY:
-It looks like his capital is N-N-W of the deer.
-N-E-E-E-E of his capital (2 South of the corn) would be a fairly natural site that captures the clam and the corn.
-Its already a choke point for him so he might not be so ambitious to try for a further choke when a perfectly good choke with 2 food + forests are right in front of him. He also has to trudge through forests to get up there.
So we might have some time to execute #2 then #3 so long as we're willing to clear cut our way to the necessary workers & settlers. Hmmm, its a tough call. Neither play is 'safer' because a stretch could get us in hot water while not stretching and losing the spot puts is in a tough position.
Do we have graphs or city size info on Joey?
Did we uncover the water south of his N-E-E-E-E potential city site?

so, turn roll again:
The west:
I think Jowy's first city this way will go down somewhere in the yellow - it's near his cap and has good food - I don't see a reason why he'll go further out unless he figures out what we are doing. We can handle anything out the green with a blocking city south of where you thought about the pigs city.
Pigs city is interesting - we may just need lots more settlers
Everything is building archers because... BARBS BARBS BARBS!!!
I killed one and there are 3 more around the civ. Fortunately, archers do well against barbs.
Demos:
And commodore's land:

And relations - Jowy knows no one we know (in fact, I think that barb on west side of our civ killed Azza's warrior - it's C2)
btw - I moved the warrior in the cap out so it can cover either way that barb moves...
Commodore also settled his 5th city. Commodore rocking imperialistic.

Haha. Yes,...yellow box. Sorry that I make you repeat everything twice.
I just like that feeling where I think that I think of everything first.
But you know what they say about imitiation and flattery.
Damn barbs. That's going to be a setback in timeline. Hopefully those 5 city fellas are pillaged to the ground.

everyone is dealing with them - we have the cheapest effective solution, so that's nice. well, maybe commodore with his incas.
Speaking of which, an update (barbs in red, our units in light blue)
The one over by MASH impaled himself on our archer, giving that archer 6 xp - we can nearly unluck Heroic Epic!! (which will be nice)
That one I marked is the one I think killed Azza's exploring warrior.
Near Jowy, the scout sidestepped the barb (too slow, so sad!)
Not all that much interesting more to see yet...
Tech tree:
9 turns from math.
Gonna have to whip in the archer in NYPD Blue, I think, which kind of sucks, but better than losing the city. I played with fire there a little....
