I'll have access to tanks next turn... the question is what to do with them. It depends on what Jowy wants to do with that giant stack of collateral he's been upgrading to arty over the past few turns. If he attacks picklepickl then I could just turn around and eat Dreylin for guaranteed second place... I'd feel bad about doing that since I was kind of relying on picklepickl to dissuade Jowy from attacking me earlier when I had to rebuild my military. Plus I sent him an iron for iron offer at some point (although I thought it meant he was going to attack Jowy...)
If Jowy attacks me then it's going to be ugly. I've been stuffing my center city full of Inf + MG the past few turns but he just has sooo much collateral it's gonna be tough to hold.

Anyway, the discovery of some aluminum not covered by a town prompted me to settle this crappy filler:

I figured a 2/5/1 tile was too good to waste. Course, I'd much prefer to found on the plains hill so I could work the horses and iron as well, but the stupid city min distance limit stops that banghead

Also, I got this stinker from my capital

Annoyingly my capital got to fill up its GP pool through incidental GPP production by wonders, and the pool was heavily biased towards prophets because of the AP+Henge+SM combo. I settled him in Undercaves for 5gpt. But I'd much rather have a great engineer. Hell even an artist would be better.

Now I'm starting to question if picklepickl really is a contender. His research has been slow and he got a large stack wiped razing one of Dreylin's cities. Probably because he marched a slow infantry stack right into his territory without cover. Not that I can complain about that because I did the exact same thing alright

But still, me and Jowy are going to be running around with planes and pickle doesn't even have destroyers yet...

Are there any games with a good explanation for how air combat works?

I don't think so... the only games I can think of that had any aerial combat of note is PB18, where OH bombed TBS into oblivion, and PB22, where I misunderstood how it worked and thus bungled an invasion of Gavagai. frown I understand it pretty well now though, if you have any specific questions...

1. If two fighters are on intercept mode and they are both in range to hit each other, will they attack each other?

2. How do Bomber combat 1-5 promotions factor into them being intercepted?

3. How do Bombers get XP points after being built?

1.) AFAIK, no, Fighters only intercept aircraft on active missions. (just strike/bombard; I'm pretty sure you can't intercept Recon missions)

2.) Combat promotions don't affect interception chance for Bombers, and thus don't affect interception damage. (Bombers always only do a flat 10 dmg per aerial combat round). Rather, C1-C5 will increase the damage done by a successful air strike mission. I think C1-C5 might affect combat versus an intercepting ground unit (like a SAM or an AT) though.

3.) I don't think they can? I guess by getting intercepted by a badly damaged fighter and then killing it?

some final thoughts:

My strong position at the end was mainly due to Sian attacking picklepickl and not me. That gave me free reign to grab SoL and Pentagon even though I bungled my later invasion of Dreylin/Sian horribly and got my stack wiped. Also, I think I messed up by staying in Theocracy instead of Free Religion. The only place where the extra XP mattered was in my HE city, where I settled the Fascism GG. I could produce three promo boats there, but I would much rather have the extra 10% beakers in hindsight.
Really should have gotten the MoM.
Really should have cottaged the riverside spices earlier.
Jowy's late 4man GA (thrown on the last turn or so of the game) would have given him the edge in the space race for sure. So I definitely feel that he would have been in first place at the end. Nice use of Phi there.

Also, really wished I picked Mansa in hindsight. There were tons of times I wished I was SPI later on in the game. Would have gone well with the monk economy strat, would have let me draft outside of a GA, would have let me delay going to Communism after using my GA to build factories so I could milk my boosted monastaries longer.

Also, if anyone wants some pics from any turns, I can dig up the saves and post them.
