It seems some of these players are mental  crazyeye

I saw the reporting on that elsewhere. It's not nearly as crazy and controversial as everyone is trying to make it be. The top of the king was already visibly loose before he picked it up. Stepien wanted to put it back in place but it got stuck off-center and then broke off completely. Niemann called the arbiter not because of the incident directly, but because this was happening on his clock time and he wanted an adjustment. They spoke afterwards and resolved everything amicably.

Ah, so that was the real reason, it certainly looked confusing.

Still, the whole thing is a bit bizarre: According to the rules, you can't just pick up your opponent's piece, unless you intent to capture it or adjust its position on the board. I also find it distracting that Sevian starts "repairing" the king while it's not his turn. Why not just quietly notify the arbiter that you need a replacement piece?

On a side note, I wonder what kind of pieces they are using at such a high profile tournament that break? I've never seen that happen in the lowest of classes and tournaments, but then again at that level they use those "indestructible" plastic sets. lol

And there is new drama:

„Hans Niemann sues Magnus Carlsen for $100 million, accusing him of defamation“

The Carlsen/Gukesh game Daniel King just reviewed was great fun. Rapid is my favorite chess to watch these days…

I am currently watching a lot of Daniel Naroditsky's videos. He recently published two interesting videos about pawn endgames. The more complex examples just showed me again that my endgame knowledge is lacking. lol

This is a cool paper.

It feels a bit weird without Magnus, but this WCC is just insane. I thought the first 6 games were "blow you away" crazy, until game 7 happened today, and I don't even know what to say.

Seriously. I can't tell how shocked I should be having never played classical chess in a tournament setting, but running out of time in that manner just feels like indecision born by a lack of confidence. Looking forward to what Daniel King has to say, his recaps have been excellent.

We'll never know but I suspect Magnus would blow either of these players off the board.
