Is it just me or does arena matchmaking feels REALLY weird recently? I seem to get matched against ridiculous decks at 0 and 1 wins such as 4-swipe druid or game-winning legends such as Tirion, Boom, Jaraxxus (and things go back to normal after winning a couple of games)
(also I never get Tirion from my unstable portal  )
From my experience, the more games I won, the more rediculous my opponent became, the more rediculous the card draw became. It looked like Blizzard was rigging the game to make me lose. On the other hand, after I had lost many games, I got very good decks, very good draws. It looked like Blizzard was rigging the game against my opponents.

I doubt they've fiddled with arena though, you're always going to get some arenas where you face strong decks and opponents at a low win number. I remember ages ago I had an arena deck with 2 Rag's and it went 2-3. While that's really strong it also means very little if your early game is weak. Maybe the opponents you faced just got unlucky themselves when drawing cards or got even stronger opponents which made them have a 0-1 record or something like that. Also my NA account only has one decent deck and it has unstable portal in it so I get to see random Bloodmage Thalnos pretty often.

It is not that rare that I lose the first game, but then get multiple wins in quick succession. My understanding is that it tries to match you to those with identical records, then similar and so on. Arena is what I tend to play most and I leave constructed for 'fun' decks. Usually mech-lock or my gimmicky paladin deck (secrets, lots of divine shields/sticky minions and kelthuzad). I just use them to win the dailies really.

I think Fel Cannon is very good, but not good enough to make warlock mech better than mage. It's not that rare that it basically locks down an opponent. The deck is very good at maintaining board control. I do use cogmasters and flame imps which are both susceptible to the cannon and there are times when you just can't play it but that's the trade off for tempo. I've seen some players use nerubian egg which I tried and can be really nice. It's just a bit too much of a combo for me in that I can't pull it off regularly enough and it loses tempo initially which is something I am very keen to avoid. It's a win condition sometimes though and that can be great. Setting up the board for fel cannon to wreck something just feels really good. When it wins, which through ranks 10-20 seems to be about 75% of the time, it tends to be really comprehensive. It peters out at higher ranks in my experience though. I'll try and remember to grab the list off my laptop later. If I don't, send me a PM to tell me I'm an ignorant so and so as a reminder!
Here is the warlock mech deck I use. It's likely not perfect, but it works well for me:
1 x Mortal Coil 2 x Clockwork Gnome 2 x Cogmaster 2 x Flame Imp 2 x Darkbomb 2 x Mechwarper 2 x Micro Machine 2 x Harvest Golem 2 x Spider Tank 2 x Tinkertown Technician 1 x Shadowflame (controversial probably, but it has saved me a lot) 1 x Enhance-o-mechano 2 x Fel Cannon 2 x Mechanical Yeti 2 x Piloted Shredder 1 x Sylvanas 1 x The Black Knight 1 x Dr Boom Sylvanas and Black Knight are just tech cards really and can easily be swapped around with other cards. |
