Thoughts on the situation now:

I'm pretty much 5th on every metric, but if I build 2 shrines and a couple of filler cities, and spread both religions, I should be ok internally.

I need to increase the garrisons over by Scooter and Cairo so that they can't suddenly take a free city off me in a way that doesn't even expose them to a backstab.

I can rely on espionage to likely see any future Yuri attack coming.

Hopefully the other three players can take Scooter down a peg, I won't attack Scooter unless 2 other players do first. I whipped like 9 triremes and 15 catapults, if not for Courthouses I would've been on negative income at one point.

May I ask what your reasoning is?

He has a bunch of caravels running around, he could start razing a lot of fishing traps, so that's leverage.

Also I don't want him to be butthurt

Also i hope SD spends more epsionage on me so that he can see what I'm doing, we basically have no border so it would help us collaborate in future.

Do we know how far scooter is from Galleons? I am not sure if he will aim to attack at rifles or just to keep teching away.

All I know is he built castles in all of the cities I see. I don't have caravels yet (Machinery next turn finally) so I know very little. 

But given that Yuri could have Galleons by now if he hadn't decided to go for a couple of other techs like Civil Service first, certainly Scooter could have them researched and built by now if he wanted to.

I just hope he decides he needs to attack a 2nd or 3rd score player first, instead of me.


More broadly, what would be the point of waiting longer than Rifles to attack? I suppose he could get a more dramatic tech disparity by waiting for infantry and bombers, but with four rivals to take out, while it would kill the first target more efficiently, it might give too much time for 2nd and 3rd targets to catch up.

I guess there's no "catch up" when we have 20 cities and he has 30, not to mention internal superiority (which I haven't examined, but assume to be present)

In theory, one could wait for rifles + cannons to take advantage of the better collateral. I'm not sure the odds rifles would get on longbows. But probably rifles or grens are where he will attack. Nothing to do but keep an eye on the diplo screen.

This happened two turns ago and I didn't notice. Well, I guess I can at least move my stuff over near scooter and spend espionage on him.

SD lost 2 minor filler cities which got razed (on opposite ends of his periphery) then made peace with scoots.
